2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Reviews Summary

The Grand Wagoneer is a full-size SUV and shares its body-on-frame platform with the Ram 1500 pickup truck. It gets a refresh for 2026 that includes a new illuminated grille, more affordable pricing, and a simplified trim and naming structure. Even with the new lower starting price, the Grand Wagoneer is still packed with a lot of standard up-level features and has one of the best third-row seats in the segment.

Verdict: The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a super-sized SUV that needs plenty of space to maneuver. While it’s a bit out of place in a city, the Grand Wagoneer shines in the suburbs or on road trips, begging for a family to fill its comfortable seats. It offers generous seating for up to eight passengers with good shoulder room in the third row to fit three children or small adults comfortably and has competitive cargo space for a vehicle in this segment.

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Reviews Summary

Jeep’s midsize SUV gains something and loses something for the 2026 model year. A mild refresh brings a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid is no more. Styling changes outside, a bigger touchscreen inside, and a restructured lineup of trim levels round out the changes.

Verdict: The turbo-four engine is impressive, but it can’t account for the lack of a hybrid powertrain, or the price tag for the best version of this grand dame of SUVs.

2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

8/10

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee

9/10

The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, four years into its lifecycle, received a refresh that maintained its upright stance, low belt line, and large windows. However, the new illuminated grille and welcome-lighting sequence gave it a fresh vibe, inspired by the all-electric Wagoneer S. The Upland trim added front recovery hooks that enhanced utility without compromising elegance. Inside, the Grand Wagoneer boasted a modern design with strong horizontal lines. Although the 12-inch infotainment screen seemed small for such a large vehicle, it was complemented by redundant HVAC and audio controls. The seats, while plain in appearance, offered comfort and adjustability, making long drives pleasant. The cabin's trim and materials were premium, with options for Nappa and Palermo leather, and a suede headliner, contributing to a high-quality fit and finish.

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, despite subtle changes to its headlights, grille, and lower front fascia, remained a visually striking SUV. Its thin grille and headlights, along with traditional Jeep design elements, gave it a substantial look. The Grand Cherokee's proportions recalled classic Jeep models, and its shark-nose angle and canted rear added character. The lineup was streamlined to three core trims: Laredo, Limited, and Summit, each with distinct wheel options and features. The interior, though less unique due to similarities with the smaller Cherokee, still offered premium materials and equipment in higher trims. The Grand Cherokee's two-row and three-row models provided competitive headroom but varied in legroom and cargo space compared to rivals.

Performance

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee

7/10

The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer featured a standard 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, delivering 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque. This engine provided smooth and effortless power, even for a vehicle weighing around 6,000 pounds. Although the high-output Hurricane engine was discontinued, the standard engine still impressed with its performance. The Grand Wagoneer was also set to receive a range-extended electric powertrain, offering an estimated 647 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque, with a total range of over 500 miles. Despite its large size, the Grand Wagoneer was agile and easy to drive, with a quiet cabin and comfortable seats for long journeys.

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee introduced the Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, producing 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, available on all trims except the base Laredo and Laredo X, which retained the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6. Both engines were paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions and offered RWD or 4WD options. The Hurricane 4 engine provided impressive power and towing capacity, making the Grand Cherokee feel quick and capable. The driving experience remained consistent, with a comfortable suspension and off-road capabilities enhanced by various 4WD systems and drive modes. However, the steering and suspension still felt truck-like, and the Grand Cherokee lacked some off-road features found in the discontinued Trailhawk model.

Form and function

The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer excelled as a people mover, offering three rows with ample leg and hip room. The optional second-row bench seat allowed for up to eight passengers, with a surprisingly spacious third row. While using the third row reduced cargo space to 27.9 cubic feet, a long-wheelbase version increased it to 42.6 cubic feet. The Grand Wagoneer could tow up to 10,000 pounds and featured three-zone climate controls, heated-and-ventilated front seats, and Quadra-Lift air suspension for light off-roading.

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee offered two rows and five seats, with a three-row Grand Cherokee L model available. Front and second-row headroom were competitive, but legroom varied compared to rivals. Two-row models provided 37.7 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Grand Cherokee L offered 17.2 cubic feet with all seats in place. The interior featured practical storage options, though the rotary shifter and drive-mode selector were not the most practical. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel were available on higher trims, with ventilation and massagers offered on the Summit.

Technology

The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer came equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, and a wireless phone charger. Higher trims offered a 23-speaker McIntosh sound system, a front passenger interactive display, and four-zone climate controls. However, the wireless phone charger had issues, and the 12-inch screen felt small for the vehicle's size. Adjustable pedals were no longer available for 2026.

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee featured a 12.3-inch touchscreen on Laredo Altitude and higher trims, with a 10.2-inch screen on lower trims. The Uconnect 5 infotainment system provided wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though the interface was cluttered. A surround-view camera system with night vision and a low-angle off-road camera was available, along with a digital rearview mirror and Fam Cam. The front passenger screen was deemed unnecessary in our test vehicle.

Safety

The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer included lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert. Available features included automated parking assist and a surround-view camera system. The Grand Wagoneer received mixed safety ratings, with a four-star NHTSA rating and a combination of Good and Marginal scores from the IIHS.

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee offered standard adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. Active Drive Assist was available on higher trims, providing hands-free highway driving. While NHTSA ratings for 2026 were unavailable, the 2025 model received a five-star overall rating. The IIHS awarded the 2025 model a Top Safety Pick, but updated criteria affected the 2026 model's ratings.
