2026 Hyundai Venue Reviews Summary

Automakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback.

Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car.

Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

2026 Nissan Pathfinder Reviews Summary

Nissan's largest crossover, the Pathfinder, seats up to eight people while offering a car-like ride and control at a medium price point. In our testing of midsize three-row crossovers, the Pathfinder comes out in the middle of the pack in terms of performance, technology, and driving enjoyment. For 2026, Nissan refreshed this fifth-generation Pathfinder, which had been largely unchanged since its debut for the 2021 model year. The 2026 Pathfinder offers more convenience features, a larger touchscreen, and a few new styling touches.

Verdict: The Pathfinder is a good choice for value, interior quality, and space, but rivals from Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia push the dials even further at a similar price.

Look and feel

2026 Hyundai Venue

4/10

2026 Nissan Pathfinder

6/10

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was classified as a crossover SUV, though its design leaned more towards a tall hatchback. It featured only front-wheel drive and had a ground clearance of 6.7 inches, which was higher than a typical car but not as tall as most crossover SUVs. The EPA classified it as a midsize car due to its interior space. The Venue's design was more crossover-like, with a small and narrow appearance reminiscent of European runabouts. Its upright windshield, bluff nose, and standard roof rails contributed to its SUV-like aesthetic. The Venue's high nose was complemented by lower headlights and high-set daytime running lights, while black wheel flares around small wheels added to its SUV cues. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional look, with a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen that resembled an iPad on the dash.

The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder combined smooth and chunky design elements, with contours on its front and rear fenders and a truck-like dashboard design. The restyled front bumper featured faux vertical air intakes, and the grille had a thin chrome line intersecting the Nissan badge. The Pathfinder's rear design was simplified by removing vertical creases below the taillights. New wheel designs and a satin-colored badge were among the few exterior changes. Inside, the Pathfinder saw more noticeable updates, including a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and a redesigned steering wheel. The interior was simple yet modern, with good materials for its price. The semi-aniline leather on the Platinum trim added a touch of luxury, bringing the Pathfinder closer to Infiniti levels of refinement.

Performance

2026 Hyundai Venue

5/10

2026 Nissan Pathfinder

5/10

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was not known for its performance, as it was one of the least powerful vehicles on the market. It was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. The power was delivered through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels. The Venue's acceleration was modest, with a 0-60 mph time ranging from 8.5 to 8.8 seconds. Despite its low power, the Venue's lightweight design at 2,738 pounds made it feel peppy in city traffic. However, highway speeds revealed the limitations of its power, with the transmission being slow to downshift. Handling was aided by its small size and low weight, making it easy to maneuver in traffic and fit into tight parking spots. The ride was generally comfortable, though the solid rear axle made it jiggly on rough surfaces.

The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder retained its naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque, or 295 hp and 270 lb-ft in the Rock Creek trim with premium fuel. The Pathfinder's acceleration was described as lazy, with a nine-speed automatic transmission that didn't enhance its performance. Fuel economy was estimated at 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined for most trims, with the Rock Creek trim achieving slightly lower figures. The Rock Creek trim, tested during a media evaluation, was criticized for its off-road tires that negatively impacted grip, noise levels, and fuel economy. The Pathfinder's suspension was soft, allowing for more lean and mid-corner wheel motions, which detracted from its steering precision. It was most comfortable in a straight line, where its size and soft ride were more advantageous.

Form and function

2026 Hyundai Venue

6/10

2026 Nissan Pathfinder

9/10

The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered cloth and H-Tex seats that mimicked sport seats with black upholstery and white contrast stitching. The seats were comfortable, with six-way manual adjustments for the driver. Headroom was ample, but legroom was limited for taller individuals. The rear seat provided just enough space for average-sized adults, though taller passengers would struggle for legroom. The rear seats folded flat in a 60/40 split, offering 31.9 cubic feet of cargo space, which was modest compared to typical compact crossovers. The Venue's interior featured hard black plastic surfaces, with only a few soft-touch areas, indicating cost-cutting measures.

The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder featured "Latch and Glide" second-row seats, making it family-friendly. It offered generous headroom and legroom in the first and second rows, while the third row was tight for taller passengers. The Pathfinder could seat eight or seven passengers, depending on the trim, with optional captain's chairs on upper trims. Cargo space was 16.6 cubic feet behind the third row, 45 cubic feet behind the second row, and 80.5 cubic feet with both rows folded. The Pathfinder's interior was equipped with numerous cupholders, USB-C ports, and a three-zone climate control system. Visibility was good, and the vehicle's controls were easy to operate.

Technology

2026 Hyundai Venue

5/10

2026 Nissan Pathfinder

7/10

The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with an 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment features. While the screen size felt small by modern standards, it was functional and responsive. The Venue lacked features like navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio, but it did offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system was a basic six-speaker unit, with no premium options available.

The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder featured a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system was user-friendly and responsive, with standard SiriusXM satellite radio and NissanConnect remote services. Upper trims introduced advanced features like Qi2 wireless charging and Invisible Hood View. The SL trim gained a digital instrument panel, while the Platinum trim offered a head-up display and a 13-speaker Bose audio system.

Safety

2026 Hyundai Venue

5/10

2026 Nissan Pathfinder

8/10

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was equipped with standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver-attention monitor. However, it lacked adaptive cruise control. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with mixed ratings from the IIHS.

The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder offered a comprehensive set of safety features, including second-row side-impact airbags and curtain airbags for all three rows. The Platinum trim added a front-center side airbag. Standard driver aids included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring. The Pathfinder earned a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with top ratings in two IIHS crash tests.
