2024 Cadillac LYRIQ Reviews Summary

After a shortened 2023 introduction, the 2024 Lyriq is the first full model year of Cadillac's midsize electric SUV. The Lyriq is the luxury version of the GM Ultium EV platform used in other EV SUVs, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Honda Prologue, and Acura ZDX. With ample power, just over 300 miles of range, and a properly upscale interior that finally looks different than a Chevy, the Lyriq is a good contender if you're shopping for a higher-priced, two-row electric SUV. We tested a fully-loaded Lyriq Sport at nearly $80,000.

Verdict: As an EV, the Lyriq is average. As a Cadillac, it’s much better than anything else in the showroom. Traditional brand hallmarks, such as a cavernous back seat and a gentle ride, blend with big screens and significantly improved material quality. But it's still not up to the luxury standard that Cadillac promises.

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE Reviews Summary

Summary: G-Wagens aside, the now-discontinued M-Class is what cemented Mercedes’ place in the SUV jungle. The descendent of that pioneering model is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, which continues as the automaker’s entry into a midsize luxury SUV segment populated by the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, BMW X5, Genesis GV80, and Lexus RX. Mercedes also sells a GLE Coupe that competes with the BMW X6. Changes for 2025 are limited to two new configurations—a GLE 350 SUV base model and GLE 450 4Matic Coupe—and several new paint colors.

Verdict: The GLE-Class is a solid luxury SUV for families, but its competition is equally good.

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ

9/10

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

7/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ was a striking vehicle with a design that commanded attention. Its exterior styling was reminiscent of a long sedan, despite being an SUV, with a long hood and low ground clearance. The design drew inspiration from the classic Seville, featuring a long wheelbase, short tail, and wide track. The front of the LYRIQ was adorned with vertical light bars and nine LED headlights that performed a light show upon unlocking. The grille varied between trims, with the Sport trim showcasing a dark triangular motif. The vehicle's aesthetics were further enhanced by wraparound taillights and fender-mounted vertical lights, creating a bold visual statement. Inside, the LYRIQ boasted luxurious details, including leather-wrapped seats, polished window switches, and a unique steering wheel design. However, the floating center console was a design misstep, offering little functionality.

In contrast, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE presented a more traditional SUV appearance with a rounded profile and a wide stance. Its design was consistent with Mercedes' brand identity, ensuring it was unmistakably a Benz. The GLE offered new paint colors and interior options curated by Mercedes' Manufaktur personalization division, allowing buyers to customize their vehicles. The interior was upscale, featuring chunky air vents, mesh speaker grilles, and ambient lighting. The AMG models added sporty elements, but the GLE's overall design felt larger than it was, impacting maneuverability. Despite this, the GLE maintained a luxurious feel, with a focus on comfort and style.

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

6/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ was not as sporty as its exterior suggested, excelling instead in long-distance comfort. It featured two Chinese-sourced motors producing 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque for AWD, with a standard single rear motor option delivering 340 hp and 325 lb-ft. The LYRIQ's 102-kilowatt-hour battery offered a claimed range of 314 miles for RWD and 307 miles for AWD, though real-world testing showed closer to 260 miles. Charging was efficient, with the battery reaching 80% in about 30 to 35 minutes. However, the LYRIQ's handling was hindered by its weight, leading to understeer and uninspiring steering feel. The braking system was strong, but the vehicle's heft raised concerns about its durability under hard use.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a diverse range of powertrains, starting with the GLE 350's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The GLE 450 4Matic featured a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 375 hp and 369 lb-ft, while the GLE 450e 4Matic combined a turbo-four with electric assist for 381 hp and 479 lb-ft. The GLE 580 4Matic boasted a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 510 hp and 538 lb-ft. AMG models offered even more power, with the GLE 53 producing 429 hp and the GLE 63 S delivering 603 hp. Despite its powerful engines, the GLE felt larger than it was, impacting its agility. However, the AMG models provided a thrilling driving experience with their impressive acceleration and V8 soundtrack.

Form and function

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ

5/10

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

8/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ faced challenges in build quality and functionality. Misaligned rear fenders, a faulty charging port, and a problematic pull-out tray were notable issues. The glovebox was difficult to access while driving, and the floating console offered limited storage space. The rotary selector for the touchscreen was less intuitive than direct touch interaction. Despite these drawbacks, the LYRIQ provided generous headroom and legroom, with a spacious back seat. However, its cargo space was limited, offering only 28 cubic feet behind the seats and 60.8 cubic feet when folded.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered flexibility with two-row and three-row configurations, though third-row space specs were not provided. The front seats provided a high seating position, but visibility was limited. Second-row passengers enjoyed ample space, with more legroom than many competitors. The GLE's cargo space was competitive, with 33.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 74.9 cubic feet with all seats folded. The center console provided reasonable storage for small items. The GLE's towing capacity of 7,700 pounds was impressive, matching the Audi Q7 and surpassing other rivals.

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ featured a 33-inch OLED screen divided into three sections, offering touch-enabled controls for lighting and gauge cluster layouts. The infotainment system ran native Google Maps and Google Assistant, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The Super Cruise system provided excellent hands-free driving capabilities, and the 19-speaker AKG stereo delivered high-quality sound.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE's interface consisted of dual 12.3-inch screens, creating a seamless display. The MBUX system included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with multiple access points for convenience. The voice recognition system was effective, simplifying navigation through the interface. AMG models offered additional drive modes and settings, accessible via steering wheel dials. Off-road displays and a "transparent hood" function enhanced the GLE's versatility.

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ had not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS at the time of writing. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a comprehensive suite of driver-assist features, though some were optional. Standard features included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera system. The Pre-Safe system provided additional protection in the event of a collision. The optional Driver Assistance Package added adaptive cruise control and other advanced features. The GLE received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, though its front-crash prevention tech received mixed ratings.
