2024 Cadillac LYRIQ Reviews Summary

After a shortened 2023 introduction, the 2024 Lyriq is the first full model year of Cadillac's midsize electric SUV. The Lyriq is the luxury version of the GM Ultium EV platform used in other EV SUVs, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Honda Prologue, and Acura ZDX. With ample power, just over 300 miles of range, and a properly upscale interior that finally looks different than a Chevy, the Lyriq is a good contender if you're shopping for a higher-priced, two-row electric SUV. We tested a fully-loaded Lyriq Sport at nearly $80,000.

Verdict: As an EV, the Lyriq is average. As a Cadillac, it’s much better than anything else in the showroom. Traditional brand hallmarks, such as a cavernous back seat and a gentle ride, blend with big screens and significantly improved material quality. But it's still not up to the luxury standard that Cadillac promises.

2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid Reviews Summary

The 2024 CR-V Hybrid is one of the roomiest compact crossovers you can buy, with plenty of comfort for passengers and space for cargo. In addition, it is a safe choice, and hybrid power comes standard in the sport-oriented versions. What’s new? This year, a Sport-L Hybrid trim level debuts with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), adding leather seats, a power tailgate, and a better infotainment system while saving you thousands compared to the top-shelf Sport Touring Hybrid trim.

Verdict: Overall, there is little to criticize and much to praise about the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid. It might not be the most exciting vehicle in its segment, but it excels at practicality, utility, comfort, and safety. Unfortunately, it also falls short in perhaps the most critical area for any hybrid: fuel economy.

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ

9/10

2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid

9/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ was a striking vehicle with a design that commanded attention. Its exterior styling was reminiscent of a long sedan, with a long hood and low ground clearance, drawing inspiration from the classic Seville. The vehicle featured vertical light bars with nine LED headlights that performed a light show upon unlocking. The grille, adorned with lighting effects, varied in design across trims, with the Sport trim showcasing a dark triangular motif. The LYRIQ's interior was a testament to Cadillac's attention to detail, with leather-wrapped seats, polished controls, and a sweeping 33-inch OLED display that integrated seamlessly into the cabin. However, the floating center console was a design misstep, offering little functionality.

In contrast, the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid presented a more conservative design with a technical face and a sporty appearance thanks to its blacked-out exterior trim and wheels. The Sport Touring trim, in particular, featured a Canyon River Blue paint that added a touch of elegance. The interior, while basic in the lower trims, was upgraded in the Sport-L Hybrid with leather seats and orange contrast stitching. The CR-V's cabin exuded sophistication with soft-touch materials and a tidy design. The rear quarter view was particularly appealing, with Volvo-adjacent taillights enhancing its upscale appearance. Overall, the CR-V Hybrid offered a balanced blend of style and practicality.

6/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ, despite its sporty exterior, was more suited for long-distance comfort than spirited driving. It featured a dual-motor powertrain producing 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, with a standard single rear motor option delivering 340 hp and 325 lb-ft. The LYRIQ's 102-kilowatt-hour battery pack offered a range of 314 miles with rear-wheel drive and 307 miles with all-wheel drive, though real-world testing showed a slightly lower range. Charging was efficient, with the ability to top up to 80% in about 30 to 35 minutes. However, the LYRIQ's handling was hindered by its weight, leading to understeer and uninspiring steering feel. The braking system was strong, but the overall chassis needed improvement.

The 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid featured a fourth-generation two-motor hybrid drive system, combining a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. This setup delivered 204 horsepower to either the front or all four wheels. The CR-V Hybrid achieved an EPA-estimated 37 mpg in combined driving, though real-world testing returned 32.4 mpg. The vehicle offered a compliant ride with predictable handling, and the brakes performed well under heavy use. The steering was heavier than expected, but the CR-V remained easy to drive, providing a hint of fun typical of Honda vehicles. However, it wasn't designed for off-road adventures or spirited driving.

Form and function

2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid

9/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ faced challenges in form and function, with misaligned rear fenders and a problematic motorized charging port. The interior, while luxurious, had functionality issues, such as a difficult-to-access glovebox and a small center cubby. The floating console offered little practical space, and the rotary selector for the touchscreen was less intuitive than direct touch. Despite these drawbacks, the LYRIQ provided generous headroom and legroom, though its cargo space was limited to 28 cubic feet behind the seats and 60.8 cubic feet when folded.

The 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid excelled in form and function, offering quality materials, intuitive controls, and comfortable seating. The driver's seat was power-adjustable, and the rear doors opened wide for easy access. The CR-V's back seat was spacious and comfortable, with ample legroom and adjustable backrest angles. The cargo area was generous, with the Sport Touring offering 34.7 cubic feet and the Sport and Sport-L providing 36.3 cubic feet. With the back seat folded, the CR-V Hybrid offered a maximum of 76.5 cubic feet of space, making it one of the most spacious in its class.

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ boasted a 33-inch OLED screen divided into three sections, offering touch-enabled controls and a large, legible instrument cluster. The infotainment system featured native Google Maps and Google Assistant, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The Super Cruise system provided excellent hands-free driving capabilities, and the 19-speaker AKG stereo delivered impressive sound quality.

The 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid came with a 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a larger 9-inch display available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with wireless smartphone charging, were reserved for higher trims. The Sport Touring trim included navigation and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. The voice recognition system was basic, and the walk-away automatic locking feature provided added security.

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ had not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS at the time of writing. It came standard with forward automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and Cadillac's Safety Alert Seat. Optional features included adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, and rear emergency braking.

The 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid featured Honda Sensing, a suite of advanced driving assistance systems, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Additional features included a rear-seat reminder, automatic high-beam headlights, and blind-spot monitoring. The CR-V Hybrid performed well in safety tests, earning a Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS for the 2023 calendar year.
