2025 Cadillac Escalade Reviews Summary

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade maintains the momentum of one of the most recognizable SUV nameplates. The current-generation Escalade was introduced as a 2021 model, but for 2025 it gets a refresh that includes styling changes and a redesigned dashboard display. The all-electric 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ joins the lineup as well, but that’s covered in a separate review. This gasoline Escalade competes against full-size luxury SUVs like the BMW X7, Infiniti QX80, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.

Verdict: If you’re willing to spend extra on a well-optioned example, the Escalade is a credible luxury vehicle. But its platform’s shortcomings can’t be erased.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Reviews Summary

It would appear to be the calendar, not the competition, that has the Ioniq 5 due for a mid-cycle refresh. We liked it when it burst onto the scene as an angular oddball in a sea of soft-lined sameness, and it has only improved over the last few years.

Verdict: Hyundai makes minor but welcome changes and avoids tweaking the many things that were working well, successfully making a good thing better.

2025 Cadillac Escalade

9/10

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

9/10

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade continued to embody the essence of old-school Cadillac luxury, having evolved significantly since its debut in 1999. It was the largest and most expensive Cadillac available, aside from the limited-production Celestiq EV. The 2025 redesign further distinguished the Escalade from its platform-sharing siblings, the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, with a new front end that aligned it more closely with Cadillac's electric vehicles. The Escalade's exterior featured large vertical headlights and tall taillights reminiscent of classic Cadillac tailfins, with the option of 24-inch wheels for the first time. Inside, Cadillac enhanced the Escalade's high-tech appeal with a 55-inch display spanning the dashboard, while offering luxurious interior options like Renaissance Red leather and open-pore wood trim.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 retained its distinctive retro-inspired design, drawing comparisons to the Lancia Delta while standing out on modern roads. The mid-cycle refresh brought subtle changes to the front fascia, maintaining the "Parametric Pixel" headlights and taillights, round wheel arches, and high rear spoiler. The new XRT trim added rugged elements like red tow hooks and digital camouflage-patterned cladding, along with exclusive colors. The Ioniq 5's interior remained minimalistic and modern, with minor updates to the center console for improved functionality. The XRT trim featured a dark interior with all-weather floor mats and debossed logos, enhancing its adventurous appeal.

Performance

8/10

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade offered a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine, producing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, while the Escalade-V boasted a supercharged version with 682 hp and 653 lb-ft of torque. All models featured a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth shifts and efficient highway cruising. Rear-wheel drive was standard, with four-wheel drive optional, except for the Escalade-V, which had a performance-oriented all-wheel drive system. Magnetic Ride Control damping was standard on most trims, but the Escalade's handling couldn't match that of luxury competitors like the BMW X7. The optional Brembo brakes improved stopping power, but the Escalade's weight remained a challenge.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT introduced a Terrain Mode button for off-road adventures, offering Snow, Mud, and Sand modes that adjusted throttle mapping, wheel slip, and power distribution. The XRT's all-wheel drive handled loose sand admirably, while the Limited trim excelled on twisty mountain roads. The Ioniq 5's battery capacity increased for 2025, with most trims achieving a 318-mile range in rear-wheel drive configuration. Power output varied, with rear-wheel drive models producing up to 225 horsepower and all-wheel drive models reaching 320 hp. Despite its weight, the Ioniq 5's instant torque provided an engaging driving experience.

Form and function

9/10

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade offered both short-wheelbase and long-wheelbase configurations, with the latter providing additional cargo space and third-row legroom. The Escalade ESV's extended length resulted in 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, surpassing competitors like the Lincoln Navigator L. The standard model offered 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, with power liftgate and power-folding seats for convenience. The Escalade's towing capacity reached 8,100 pounds, though it lacked some of the advanced towing features found in rivals.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 addressed previous complaints by adding a rear windshield wiper and revising the center console for improved functionality. Interior dimensions remained unchanged, with generous headroom and legroom for both front and rear passengers. Cargo space measured 26.3 cubic feet with the rear seats up, expanding to 58.5 cubic feet when folded. The Ioniq 5's transition to the North American Charging System allowed access to Tesla's Supercharger network, enhancing its charging capabilities. Hyundai also included a CCS adapter for broader charging options.

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade featured a 55-inch display spanning the dashboard, incorporating a digital instrument cluster, infotainment touchscreen, and front-passenger touchscreen. A 19-speaker AKG audio system was standard, with a 36-speaker version available. The Escalade retained standalone wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a hard button for vehicle operation. The optional Executive Second Row Package added 12.6-inch screens, wireless chargers, and massage seats for rear passengers, enhancing comfort and entertainment.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 maintained its dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and digital instrumentation, with improved processing speeds and GPS accuracy. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard, and the XRT trim gained access to the Bose Premium Audio system. All trims featured standard navigation, dynamic voice recognition, and multiple USB-C ports. The Limited trim offered a head-up display, while the SEL trim introduced a wireless charging pad.

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade came equipped with standard driver-assist features, including adaptive cruise control, blind-zone steering assist, and automatic emergency braking. GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system allowed for hands-free driving on mapped roads, though manual control handoffs could be abrupt. The Escalade's safety ratings from IIHS and NHTSA were unavailable at the time of publication.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 continued to earn top safety ratings, including a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and five stars from NHTSA. New safety features included an enhanced driver attention system and parking-distance warnings. Highway Driving Assist 1 and 2 provided adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, with HDA 2 offering lane-changing capability.
