2024 Chevrolet Trax Reviews Summary

The Trax was launched for the 2015 model year as a no-frills subcompact crossover, designed to serve as basic transportation at an affordable cost. However, the Trax moldered in showrooms without any significant updates until the 2022 model year—when it was discontinued altogether.

But now the Trax is back in totally revamped, second-generation form. It's as big of a reimagining as you'll likely ever see in a car like this. The new Trax is bigger than before, more effort has been put into its styling, and Chevy has added the tech features that have become the norm since the original Trax was launched. Still the entry-level model in Chevy's lineup, the Trax sits below the Chevy Trailblazer, and takes aim at the Hyundai Venue and Nissan Kicks, but it was also designed to retain owners of discontinued small cars like the Chevy Cruze, Sonic, and Spark, bridging the gap between car and crossover.

The redesigned 2024 Trax launches in LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ trim levels. We sampled 2RS and Activ models on roads around Asheville, North Carolina.

2025 Cadillac Escalade Reviews Summary

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade maintains the momentum of one of the most recognizable SUV nameplates. The current-generation Escalade was introduced as a 2021 model, but for 2025 it gets a refresh that includes styling changes and a redesigned dashboard display. The all-electric 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ joins the lineup as well, but that’s covered in a separate review. This gasoline Escalade competes against full-size luxury SUVs like the BMW X7, Infiniti QX80, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.

Verdict: If you’re willing to spend extra on a well-optioned example, the Escalade is a credible luxury vehicle. But its platform’s shortcomings can’t be erased.

2024 Chevrolet Trax

9/10

2025 Cadillac Escalade

9/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax underwent a significant transformation, shedding its previous image for a more modern and stylish design. It was longer, lower, and wider, drawing inspiration from the midsize Chevy Blazer. The new Trax featured a bold grille, distinctive body lines, and a more pronounced presence compared to its predecessor. Base models came with 17-inch steel wheels, while higher trims offered 18-inch and 19-inch aluminum options. The interior, though entry-level, had thoughtful design elements like a freestanding touchscreen and large air vents, with higher trims offering Evotex upholstery and unique stitching.

In contrast, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade maintained its status as a symbol of luxury, with updates that further distinguished it from its GM siblings. The exterior featured a new front end with vertical headlights and large 24-inch wheels, enhancing its imposing presence. Inside, Cadillac focused on a high-tech, screen-centric design with a 55-inch display spanning the dashboard. The Escalade offered various trim levels, each with unique styling cues, and luxurious interior options like semi-aniline leather and curated motifs, ensuring a premium experience.

Performance

2024 Chevrolet Trax

8/10

2025 Cadillac Escalade

6/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax was powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Despite a decrease in power from the previous model, the new engine offered a quicker 0-60 mph time. The Trax's handling was more car-like, with a wider track providing a stable feel. It was front-wheel drive only, with a six-speed automatic transmission. The ride quality was slightly rough, but active noise cancellation improved cabin comfort.

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade dropped its diesel option, leaving a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The Escalade-V boasted a supercharged V8 with 682 horsepower. A 10-speed automatic transmission provided smooth shifts, and the Escalade offered rear-wheel drive with optional four-wheel drive. Magnetic Ride Control and air suspension enhanced ride quality, though it couldn't match the handling of some luxury competitors. The Escalade's brakes were adequate, but the optional Brembo package was recommended for better performance.

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax offered increased rear-seat legroom but slightly reduced headroom and shoulder room. It provided a car-like driving position with excellent visibility. Cargo space increased to 25.6 cubic feet with seats up and 54.1 cubic feet with seats folded, surpassing some rivals.

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade, available in standard and long-wheelbase versions, provided ample space for passengers and cargo. The ESV model offered even more room, with up to 142.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Seating for up to eight was available, with luxurious options for second-row passengers. The Escalade's towing capacity was competitive, though it lacked some advanced towing features.

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade boasted a 55-inch display integrating multiple functions. It included a 19-speaker AKG audio system, with a 36-speaker option available. The Escalade retained traditional controls for some functions, and the optional Executive Second Row Package added luxury features for rear passengers.
