Dealer's description
I was a sales manager at Palm Chevrolet in Punta Gorda when the F-Body Camaro had its final run, and even back then we couldn't understand why such an amazing car was being discontinued. Now we know that it was done simply to boost Corvette sales, but if one spec could have been ordered back then, the 35th Anniversary Z28/SS Convertible would have been it!In the autumn of 2002, as the last fourth-generation F-bodies trickled out of the Sainte-Thrse assembly plant, most were destined for a life of stoplight drag races and suburban driveways. But a select few were purchased for longevity and maintained in climate-controlled storage. This is one of those examples. With just over 3,500 miles on the odometer, this 35th Anniversary SS doesn't just represent the end of an erait's a living specimen of it.It comes to you with a perfect CarFAX and AutoCheck history as well. Take a moment to ready my description of the car and go through all 170 detailed photos. Feel free to call with questions. My cell is 941-286-0889 and I look forward to discussing the car with you.The Exterior:While the base Z28 was a formidable 'catfish' car, the SS package (RPO WU8) added the necessary visual muscle. This anniversary edition wears its Bright Rally Red paint with a depth that suggests it hasn't seen a car wash brush since the Bush administration. The signature silver 'trophy' stripes fade into checkered flags across the hood and decklid, leading your eye to the functional, forced-air induction scoop that defines the SS silhouette. I cannot find a stone chip, scuff, or mark to report, but I am sure if you spent days going over the car with a fine-tooth comb you might find some inconsequential blemish. I can't, and I tried to see one. Glass is flawless and original all the way around. Headlamps, marker lights, and tail lamps look like new. Anniversary decals are like new with no fade or lifting evident anywhere. The 17-inch ten-spoke aluminum wheelsunique to this anniversary runfeature blacked-out inserts and machined faces that remain free of a single millimeter of curb rash. Even the black anodized brake calipers behind them look as though they've never felt the heat of a hard stop. Overall, it probably looks better today than it did sitting on the dealer's showroom in 2002 with all those salespersons handprints all over it!SS Performance/Appearance package:Installed by SLP for GM, this gives you the 325hp upgraded V8 with specific forced air induction hood, SS specific rear spoiler, high performance ride and handling suspension, low restriction dual outlet exhaust, and SS Badging.Other options:You also get the 35th Anniversary SPECIAL EDITION package, aforementioned 12-disc CD changer, and the limited slip rear differential. The car also comes with electronic cruise control, remote trunk release, power convertible top, fog lamps, power windows and door locks, leather wrapped steering wheel, remote keyless entry, theft deterrent alarm, and 6-way power driver seat too!The Interior:Open the door, and you're still greeted by that distinct 'new GM' scenta mix of leather, high-grade plastics, and nostalgia. The Anniversary-exclusive two-tone leather seats (Ebony with Pewter inserts) show zero bolster wear, no rips, tears, stains, or seam pulls. The embroidered 35th Anniversary logos on the headrests are crisp and unfaded. Unlike most F-bodies of this vintage, there are no 'mystery rattles' or cracked dash pads here. The Monsoon 500-watt premium audio system still houses its factory-correct 12-disc CD changer in the trunk, ready to play your favorite Y2K-era tracks. The CD Magazine has never even been outside of its plastic wrap from the factory! Every switch, from the power convertible top to the redundant steering wheel controls, operates with a new-car feel that only low-mileage survivors retain. I cannot imagine finding a cleaner interior elsewhere. The Mechanicals:Under the composite hood sits the LS1 V8, a 5.7-liter pushrod masterpiece detuned only slightly from its Corvette sibling to produce a factory-rated 325 horsepower. Because this example was ordered with the GU5 Performance Axle, it carries a 3.23 rear-end ratio that gives the 4-speed automatic transmission a noticeably sharper 'punch' than the standard cruiser. Power delivery is seamless, aided by the Acceleration Slip Regulation (Traction Control)a vital box to check for a high-torque rear-driver. The undercarriage is factory-correct and original with visible paper tags and factory markings, and it has the High-Performance Ride and Handling Suspension that keeps those 275-series Goodyear Eagles planted. This isn't a 'restored' car, it is a factory-original machine that has been preserved in a state of mechanical stasis. Tires are original to the car and are NOT recommended for highway driving due to the date code and manufacturer guides. They are NOT damaged and are left with the car for collector's value. The Extras:The original owner kept EVERYTHING with the car, and it comes to you with the following:-Full owner manual packet with every supplement it came with new-SS/SLP supplement pack with post its, tire gauge, pen, SLP booklet, SLP Keychain, SLP jacket pin, SLP jacket sew on.-Original window sticker laminated for protection-2002 Chevy Camaro model book-Original wheel lock with decals and code-Original SLP letter to owner-Two sets of GM original keys-Two original and functional FOB units-SLP leather trunk and fender mat-Original hard tonneau and tote bag in exceptional condition-Full size lined car cover with storage bagFinal thoughts:The 2002 SS was the 'Best of the Last.' In a world of increasingly digital sports cars, this analog, pushrod-powered brute offers a visceral connection to the pavement that is rapidly disappearing. For the collector who demands perfection, this isn't just a Camaroit's a 3,500-mile invitation to go back to 2002 and do it all over again. Call JJ direct at 941-286-0889 for an appointment to see it, or to schedule a FaceTime walk-around or virtual test drive.
