About 2020 FIAT 124 Spider
FIAT introduced its 124 Spider roadster for 2017. Like most roadsters, it seats just two people and boasts a folding soft top. For 2020, it receives light changes. Every 124 Spider comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. In standard spec, it makes 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The Abarth trim gets a 4-hp bump. Across the range, a 6-speed manual transmission comes standard, while a 6-speed automatic transmission is a premium-cost option. The 124 Spider is exclusively rear-wheel drive (FWD). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gives maximum fuel-economy ratings of 26 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined with premium fuel. The 124 Spider comes in Classica, Lusso, and Abarth trims. The Classica gets a dual-tip exhaust, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, keyless access and start, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Last year’s Urbana trim is no more, but the Lusso grade includes 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome exhaust tips, fog lights, automatic headlights, and satellite radio. Finally, the Abarth comes with exclusive 17-inch wheels, a special body kit, a sport-mode selector, leather-and-microfiber upholstery, and heritage “Abarth” scorpion badging. You can also tack on options like a 9-speaker Bose sound system with a subwoofer, navigation, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a garage-door opener, LED daytime-running lights, LED headlights, and a headlight washer. As far as safety, the only standard technology on the 124 Spider is a set of airbags and a reversing camera. Adaptive front headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic detection are extra-cost features. There’s no public crash-testing data from either the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the 124 Spider, but that’s not uncommon for low-volume vehicles like this one. The FIAT 124 Spider stands out among sports cars for its uncompromising style and Italian charm. It competes with other roadsters like Mazda MX-5 Miata.
