2026 Hyundai Venue Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.
2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Reviews SummaryOnce known as the M-Class, the GLE is a midsize crossover that forms the core of Mercedes’ U.S. SUV lineup, competing against popular midsize models such as the Acura MDX, the Audi Q7, the BMW X5 and X6, the Genesis GV80, and the Lexus RX. For 2027, the GLE gets a major refresh encompassing new styling, updated tech, and upgraded powertrains. Verdict: Mercedes offers lots of powertrain and configuration choices, and a genuinely luxurious driving experience in well-equipped models. But the changes made to the 2027 GLE are more significant on paper than they are in practice.

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was classified by Hyundai as a crossover SUV, though its dimensions and design suggested it was more akin to a tall hatchback. It featured only front-wheel drive and had a ground clearance of 6.7 inches, which was higher than a typical car but not as elevated as a standard crossover SUV. The EPA categorized it as a midsize car due to its interior space. The Venue's design leaned more towards a crossover aesthetic, with a small and narrow appearance reminiscent of European runabouts. Its upright windshield, bluff nose, and standard roof rails contributed to its SUV-like cues. The Venue's exterior was further defined by black rocker panels, black wheel flares, and a two-tone roof option, while the interior offered a simple and functional look with a digital instrument cluster and body-color trim accents.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE, in its fourth generation, had been around since 2020 and received a significant facelift for 2027. The styling updates included a star motif for the lights and grille, with nearly 150 three-pointed stars adorning the vehicle. These changes were applied to both the standard GLE SUV and the GLE Coupe, though they did not necessarily enhance the overall aesthetics. The GLE retained its rounded silhouette, reminiscent of the old M-Class, but the combination of boxy fenders and squared-off detailing created a discordant look. The AMG GLE models featured sportier styling elements, such as larger air intakes and prominent exhaust tips. Inside, the dashboard was rearranged to accommodate the Superscreen display, while the fit and finish remained consistent with Mercedes' standards. The level of material quality varied depending on the trim level, with options for more luxurious materials available.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, producing a modest 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. This power was delivered through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels, with no all-wheel drive option available. The Venue's acceleration was not particularly quick, with a 0-60 mph time ranging from 8.5 to 8.8 seconds, but its lightweight construction at 2,738 pounds contributed to a peppy feel in city driving. However, highway speeds revealed the limitations of its power, with the transmission slow to downshift and the engine droning under heavy throttle. Handling was aided by the Venue's small size and low weight, making it agile in traffic and easy to park, though the solid rear axle resulted in a jiggly ride on rough surfaces.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a wide array of powertrain options, including four-, six-, and eight-cylinder engines, as well as two plug-in hybrid powertrains. All models came with a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive. The base GLE 350 4Matic featured a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The GLE 450 4Matic had a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six producing 375 hp and 413 lb-ft, while the GLE 580 4Matic boasted a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 530 hp and 553 lb-ft. The engines were equipped with mild-hybrid systems for improved efficiency. The GLE 580's V8 received a flat-plane crankshaft for reduced emissions, and the inline-six saw increased responsiveness. The GLE 500e 4Matic plug-in hybrid offered 429 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque, while the AMG GLE 53 Hybrid and AMG GLE 63 S delivered even higher performance figures. The GLE's ride was luxurious, though not as sporty as some competitors, with an optional air suspension system enhancing comfort.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and H-Tex seats with black upholstery and white contrast stitching, providing a sporty appearance. The seats were comfortable, with six-way manual adjustments for the driver. Headroom was ample, but legroom was limited for taller occupants. The rear seat offered just enough space for average-sized adults, though taller passengers would struggle for legroom. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 31.9 cubic feet available with the rear seats folded and 18.7 cubic feet with them up. The interior materials were predominantly hard black plastic, with limited soft-touch surfaces.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered both two-row and three-row configurations, with the latter providing a tight squeeze for passengers. Interior dimensions remained unchanged, offering class-competitive headroom but limited legroom. The standard features included heated power front seats with lumbar support and memory, with options for ventilation and massage. The second row provided generous headroom and legroom, with a standard panoramic glass roof on SUV models. The GLE SUV offered 33.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 74.9 cubic feet with the seats folded. The GLE Coupe had reduced cargo space due to its lower roofline. The GLE's towing capacity remained at 7,700 pounds for non-AMG models.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue was equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment functions, including phone, radio, media, and phone-projection connections. While lacking features like navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot, it offered wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system consisted of a simple six-speaker unit, with no premium options available.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE featured the Superscreen display, comprising three 12.3-inch screens for the driver, central touchscreen, and front passenger. The MBUX infotainment system was upgraded with the MB.OS operating system and AI-enhanced voice assistant. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were retained. The GLE offered an augmented-reality head-up display, an inward-facing camera for videoconferencing, and a 15-speaker Burmester audio system on most models.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver-attention monitor. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert were available on higher trims. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from the NHTSA and a "Good" score in the small front overlap test from the IIHS.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features, including lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitors, forward-collision warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. The GLE's sensor suite supported advanced driver-assistance systems, and its Pre-Safe system minimized injury potential in a collision. The 2026 model received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
