2026 Chevrolet Trax Reviews Summary

The Trax is the cheapest new car Chevy sells in the United States. It takes the place of compact sedans and hatchbacks in the Bowtie brand’s lineup, while competing with entry-level crossover SUVs such as the Hyundai Venue and the Nissan Kicks. The current Trax was introduced for the 2024 model year, and for 2026 the only changes are two new exterior color options. White Sands is available with Activ and RS models, while Apex Red is available with RS, LS, and LT models.

Verdict: Blending elements of compact cars and crossover SUVs, the Trax hits a sweet spot of utility and affordability. It’s also pleasant to drive and offers impressive infotainment tech, but a lack of solid safety ratings and the unavailability of all-wheel drive are the tradeoffs.

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid Reviews Summary

The all-new second-generation 2027 Kia Telluride has big shoes to fill and seems to be easily up to the task. With ample power, an efficient Hybrid model, and clever design, it could very well be a class leader among very competitive rivals. There are also luxurious and terrain-capable variants to go along with the sensibly priced models, giving the Telluride even broader appeal than before.

Verdict: If the first-generation Telluride set the bar for value and family-friendly practicality, the second generation raises it. The latest Telluride adds a compelling hybrid option and a more upscale feel while keeping prices in check.

Look and feel

2026 Chevrolet Trax

9/10

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

6/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax emerged as a more stylish and appealing option compared to its predecessor. It adopted car-like proportions, shared with the Buick Envista, to attract customers who missed the Cruze or Sonic. The Trax's design packed personality into a small vehicle, with Blazer-like headlights, a wide grille, and a tall front end. Its chunky wheel arches and sleek side profile gave it a distinctive look, while the wide stance and imposing grille added a touch of SUV toughness. The Trax lineup included various trim levels, each with unique features like different wheel sizes and finishes, black Chevy Bowtie badges, and RS callouts. Inside, the Trax maintained an entry-level feel with rubbery surfaces, but its design details stood out. The interior featured large air vents, contrasting trim, and a layout reminiscent of a Corvette. Cloth upholstery was standard on lower trims, while higher trims offered suede-like Evotex or a combination of materials.

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid presented a bold reinterpretation of its design, which divided opinions. Its grille, with a flat, faceless look, spanned the entire front end, while body-colored vertical strakes at the edges changed the vehicle's personality depending on color and trim. The X-Line and X-Pro models replaced these strakes with rectangular grille blocks and featured distinctive amber accent lights. The side profile showcased unique faceted fender sculpting and black plastic tabs atop each wheel well, adding an unusual touch. The rear view adopted a different style, with rounded corners and vertical taillights reminiscent of a Range Rover. Inside, the Telluride's interior was less controversial, featuring a simple horizontal dashboard layout and a modern, buttonless appearance. The Hybrid SX Prestige trim, with the optional Executive package, offered a luxurious two-tone palette, akin to a Volvo. The seats, covered in synthetic leather and suede, provided comfort, though the cushions were somewhat firm. The interior materials were of excellent quality, with various trim surfaces available, including engineered wood and carbon fiber.

Performance

2026 Chevrolet Trax

8/10

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

7/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax was equipped with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It featured a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, with no all-wheel drive option. Despite its small engine, the Trax delivered confident acceleration and maintained power at higher speeds. The conventional automatic transmission contributed to its drivability, offering smoother shifts compared to a CVT. While performance wasn't the primary focus, the Trax felt stable on twisty roads, with responsive electric power steering. The suspension provided a comfortable ride, aided by active noise cancellation, though some tire noise and engine drone were noticeable.

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid combined a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with electric motors, producing a total of 329 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. It featured a six-speed transmission and was available in the X-Line trim. The Hybrid offered ample power and a quiet ride, with seamless transitions between electric and gas modes. The Telluride's suspension was tuned for comfort, delivering a smooth ride even in the X-Pro Prestige trim with its off-road suspension. The Hybrid SX Prestige had a stiffer ride due to its 20-inch wheels, but the suspension managed to absorb bumps effectively. On winding roads, the Telluride was composed and controllable, though not particularly sporty. The brake pedal effort was soft, but brake response was immediate during panic stops.

Form and function

2026 Chevrolet Trax

8/10

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

8/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax offered competitive interior space for a small crossover. Headroom was comparable to the Hyundai Kona and Subaru Crosstrek, while rear-seat passengers enjoyed an additional 2.2 inches of legroom compared to the Subaru. The Trax provided 25.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, similar to a Honda Civic hatchback. With the rear seats folded, it offered 54.1 cubic feet of cargo space. The tall seating position facilitated easy ingress and egress, and forward visibility was impressive. The front seats were positioned inboard, limiting center console storage but allowing for large door pockets and cup holders. However, the wireless device charger struggled to hold phones in place.

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid provided ample space for adults in all three rows, though the rearmost row was better suited for smaller passengers. The second row featured power-adjustable seats with heating and ventilation in the Hybrid SX Prestige trim. These seats offered a reclining feature and ample legroom, even with the Hybrid's reduced second-row legroom. The Telluride's cargo capacity was competitive, with 22.3 cubic feet behind the third row and up to 89.3 cubic feet with the second-row seatbacks folded. The Hybrid models lost only about one cubic foot of cargo space. The Telluride could tow up to 5,000 pounds, or 4,500 for the Hybrid. For smaller items, the front seats had a large center bin, while the second row featured a tray and bin.

Technology

2026 Chevrolet Trax

9/10

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

6/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax came with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system on the base LS model. Higher trims featured an 11-inch touchscreen, an all-digital 8-inch instrument cluster, and a six-speaker sound system. The digital cluster was easy to read, with a large centered speed readout. The touchscreen had a sensible layout, though the volume knob was hard to reach. The touchscreen was angled toward the driver, making it difficult for the front passenger to use.

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid featured a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 5-inch touchscreen for climate controls. The infotainment system was user-friendly, though it required a firm tap to register inputs. The climate control screen was difficult to use while driving, but physical temperature control buttons were available. The Telluride offered customizable infotainment themes and a 14-speaker Meridian premium audio system on higher trims, delivering powerful and clear sound.

Safety

2026 Chevrolet Trax

4/10

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

6/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax included standard driver-assist features such as automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and forward collision warning. Adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring were available on higher trims. The Trax featured a Teen Driver monitoring system, but full safety ratings were not available. The IIHS gave the Trax a "Poor" rating in its moderate overlap front crash test.

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid offered standard advanced safety features, including frontal collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Higher trims added features like a surround-view camera system and automatic reverse braking. The Telluride's driver attention monitor had operational issues, but the highway driving assist was effective on longer trips. Crash test scores were not available at the time of writing.
