2025 Chevrolet Tahoe Reviews Summary

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe arrives with a restyled front and rear, including new lighting signatures, and its available diesel engine has been upgraded for more horsepower and torque. However, most shoppers will recognize the new Tahoe for its improved interior and fancy touchscreen.

Verdict: Although the Tahoe receives only mild mechanical updates for the 2025 model year, its interior takes a healthy step forward. Its primary competitors–the Ford Expedition and the Jeep Wagoneer–no longer look or feel significantly nicer. An upgraded diesel engine also helps separate the Tahoe from the field, offering impressive fuel economy (for a vehicle of this size) and excellent performance.

2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid Reviews Summary

The more powerful RAV4 PHEV is even stronger for 2026, and Toyota has introduced a new GR Sport trim to showcase its sportier side. The expanded lineup has four distinct trims, and the electric range has increased by at least 20% over the 2025 RAV4, so Toyota has furthered its lead over plug-in hybrid newcomers such as the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage—and even the Lexus NX 450h+.

Verdict: This is the best version of the RAV4, though we can’t recommend the slightly sportier GR Sport until we know exactly how much it will cost. With improved tech and a greater focus on electrification, as well as available DC charging (despite the charge ports changing sides between trims), the RAV4 PHEV leans forward.

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

8/10

2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe continued its legacy as a popular full-size SUV, largely due to its brand equity and practical capabilities. Since its inception in 1995, the Tahoe has been a top choice for those needing a vehicle that can tow significant loads while accommodating up to nine passengers. Chevrolet maintained a conservative approach in refreshing the Tahoe's design, introducing a new grille and updated lighting elements across its six trim levels. The Z71 trim, which we primarily tested, stood out with its off-road enhancements, including skid plates, recovery hooks, and all-terrain tires. Inside, the Tahoe featured a new 17.7-inch touchscreen and a redesigned dashboard, offering a blend of modern tech and traditional controls, such as a steering-column-mounted shifter.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid offered a distinct design with its Rugged and Sport trims, including the exclusive GR Sport. The RAV4 maintained its footprint but added buffer bumpers for a more robust appearance. The Woodland trim emphasized off-road capabilities with features like all-terrain tires and a roof rack, while the Sport trims showcased gloss black accents and performance-oriented elements. Inside, the RAV4 PHEV provided a well-equipped cabin with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen system. The interior was optimized for storage, and the passenger space remained comfortable, though slightly less spacious than some rivals. The cargo area was slightly reduced due to the PHEV's powertrain, but it still offered practical storage solutions.

Performance

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

10/10

2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe stood out with its naturally aspirated V8 engines, offering a choice between a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower. Additionally, a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine was available, producing 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, making it the most fuel-efficient option with up to 27 mpg on the highway. All engines were paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the Z71 trim came standard with four-wheel drive. The Tahoe's suspension options included Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride adaptive suspension, enhancing ride quality and handling.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid featured an updated 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 186 horsepower, paired with a larger 22.7-kwh battery pack. The PHEV's total power output increased to 324 horsepower, making it the most powerful RAV4 to date. It offered an estimated electric range of 52 miles and standard all-wheel drive. The RAV4 PHEV excelled in Auto mode, achieving a 0-60 mph time in the low five seconds. The GR Sport trim, with its lower ride height and performance tires, provided enhanced handling and reduced body roll, making it a sportier option within the lineup.

Form and function

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

7/10

2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe was designed for those needing to transport people and tow heavy loads. With the 5.3-liter V8 and Max Trailering package, it could tow up to 8,400 pounds. The Tahoe offered a spacious interior with a maximum cargo volume of 122.9 cubic feet when all seats were folded. However, with all seats in place, the cargo space was limited to 25.5 cubic feet. The Tahoe's large 24-gallon fuel tank allowed for extended highway driving, especially with the diesel engine.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid maintained its dimensions from the previous generation, offering clever storage solutions and comfortable seating for four passengers. The interior featured a shelf over the dashboard and multiple storage compartments. The RAV4 PHEV's cargo area was slightly reduced to 33.6 cubic feet due to the battery pack, but it still provided practical storage options. The rear legroom was spacious, though slightly less than some competitors, and the panoramic sunroof reduced headroom slightly.

Technology

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

8/10

2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid

8/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe made significant strides in technology with a new 17.7-inch touchscreen, 11-inch driver information screen, and optional 15-inch head-up display. It featured wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Google Built-in for seamless integration of Google services. While the tech interface was sleek, the steering wheel controls were cluttered, and the driver information display customization was not intuitive. The premium Bose sound system was underwhelming compared to rivals.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid introduced a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an enhanced 10.5-inch touchscreen system, with a larger 12.9-inch screen on top trims. The touchscreen featured customizable tiles and a quick menu for easy access to settings. Toyota's new operating system, Arene, improved responsiveness and voice assistant capabilities. The RAV4 PHEV also included a built-in dash cam for recording and saving clips from exterior cameras.

Safety

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

7/10

2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe included a comprehensive suite of standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera. However, the 2024 model received only four out of five stars from the NHTSA and an Acceptable rating from the IIHS in crash tests. The 2025 model was expected to perform similarly, with GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving tech available in 2025.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid came with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, offering a wider view for cameras and improved radar detection. The suite included features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitors. The RAV4's safety enhancements aimed to improve its already strong safety record, with crash-testing results pending from the IIHS and NHTSA.
