2025 Porsche Cayenne Reviews Summary

Verdict: Even the base model Cayenne delivers an agile driving experience, but those willing to dig deep into their bank account for one of Porsche’s more expensive Cayenne models are rewarded with a spirited drive like no other. The competition here is stiff, in the form of other German SUVs like the Audi Q8, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, and their performance variants. However, the Cayenne is not here to lose.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Reviews Summary

There aren’t many subcompact crossovers on the market with hybrid powertrains. As such, it’s tough to weigh the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek against a field of other options. The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is its primary competition; the Kia Niro Hybrid is exclusively front-wheel drive, and vehicles like the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid all compete in the larger compact crossover segment. If shoppers want a fuel-efficient and genuinely small crossover with great all-wheel-drive capability, the new Crosstrek Hybrid is the best available choice.

Verdict: With its attractive styling, comfortable interior, and tested AWD system, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek delivers a terrific package, even if it’s not as efficient as some larger (and more expensive) competitors.

2025 Porsche Cayenne

9/10

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

8/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne presented itself as a versatile SUV, available in both a standard model with a squared-off rear end and a sporty Cayenne Coupe. The GTS trim level, which was the focus of our review, featured high gloss black trim and bronze exhaust tips, along with a unique front fascia with larger air intakes and tinted headlights. The 21-inch wheels in anthracite gray and red brake calipers added to its sporty appearance. Inside, the Cayenne offered extensive customization options, from color choices like Carmine Red to various trim and seat belt options. Despite the potential for high costs, the customization ensured a unique vehicle for each owner. The cabin was well-organized, with mechanical controls for essential features and a dashboard-mounted shifter toggle that provided additional storage space.

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, part of the third generation of Crosstreks, continued to build on its evolutionary improvements. The 2026 model retained changes from 2024, including new sheet metal and chassis construction, with a notable update to the front fascia featuring a frameless grille and aerodynamic enhancements. The Crosstrek Hybrid was available in two trims, Sport and Limited, and offered a balance of rugged utility and refined comfort inside. The cabin maintained Subaru's straightforward design philosophy, with consistent material quality and distinctive orange contrast stitching on the gray StarTex seats. The Limited Hybrid trim added upscale touches like chrome-trimmed power window switches and a heated steering wheel, while an optional power moonroof enhanced the cabin's airy feel.

Performance

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered a range of engines, with the base 3.0-liter V6 producing 348 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking more power, the Cayenne S featured a V8 with 468 hp, while the Turbo GT boasted 650 hp, available only as a coupe. The GTS trim, with its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, delivered 493 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive. The GTS could accelerate to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 171 mph. The GTS trim struck a balance between sporty and comfortable, with precise steering and an agile suspension system. Optional carbon ceramic brakes provided ample stopping power, while the adaptive air suspension and dynamic chassis control enhanced the driving experience. The Cayenne also offered an Off-Road package and a lightweight package for the coupe version.

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid featured a 2.5-liter Atkinson/Miller-cycle engine paired with a 118-hp traction motor, resulting in a total system output of 194 horsepower. This made it the fastest Crosstrek to date, with smoother acceleration than the gas-only version. The hybrid system utilized two motor-generators, one for engine start/stop and battery charging, and the other as a drive motor and for regenerative braking. During testing, the Crosstrek Hybrid achieved 31 mpg, slightly below the EPA estimate of 36 mpg. Subaru's AWD system, combined with the X-Mode traction management system, provided excellent off-road capability. The steering was light but precise, thanks to a revised dual-pinion steering rack, and the Crosstrek exhibited less body lean than previous models.

Form and function

2025 Porsche Cayenne

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

9/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered a la carte options, with the base model featuring standard eight-way power-adjustable seats, two-zone climate control, and a heated steering wheel. Higher trims like the GTS added a GT Sport steering wheel and Race-Tex headliner, with options for Race-Tex or leather interiors. The Cayenne could tow over 7,700 pounds and accommodate over 1,400 pounds of payload, but cargo space was smaller than competitors, with 27.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 60 cubic feet with seats folded. The coupe version offered 20.9 and 53 cubic feet, respectively, while the PHEV models had slightly reduced cargo space.

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid improved on previous iterations with more horsepower and cargo space. It offered 18.6 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats and 50.6 cubic feet with the rear row folded. The gas tank remained at 16.6 gallons, allowing for a range of up to 597 miles. The Crosstrek Hybrid provided ample rear-seat space with 36.7 inches of legroom, surpassing competitors like the Corolla Cross Hybrid. Up front, storage was limited, with a small tray for a wireless charging pad and two cupholders, but deep door pockets and a standard-size glove compartment offered additional storage.

Technology

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne featured a 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen display with the Porsche Communication Management system, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An optional 10.9-inch passenger screen allowed for navigation and media control. The system was user-friendly, with quick response times and voice control options. A head-up display provided essential information, though it appeared dim with polarized sunglasses. The Cayenne included four high-speed USB-C charging ports and a cooled wireless charging area.

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid came with an 11.6-inch touchscreen, but the software was slow and prone to fingerprints. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, along with physical buttons for volume, tuning, and HVAC controls. The Limited Hybrid trim featured a Harman Kardon stereo and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which could display navigation maps. However, the map wouldn't display Google Maps when using phone projection, requiring drivers to rely on the touchscreen for directions.

Safety

2025 Porsche Cayenne

7/10

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

7/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne included standard parking sensors, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring, but adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning were optional. Porsche's InnoDrive adaptive cruise control system was not tested, and the Cayenne lacked a hands-off/eyes-up driving assist. Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS had rated the 2025 Cayenne for safety.

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid had not yet been rated by the IIHS or NHTSA for 2026, but the 2025 model received a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. Subaru's EyeSight ADAS included adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision braking, and automatic emergency braking. The Crosstrek Hybrid also featured a rearview camera, but lacked a semi-autonomous driving system.
