2025 Porsche Cayenne Reviews Summary

Verdict: Even the base model Cayenne delivers an agile driving experience, but those willing to dig deep into their bank account for one of Porsche’s more expensive Cayenne models are rewarded with a spirited drive like no other. The competition here is stiff, in the form of other German SUVs like the Audi Q8, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, and their performance variants. However, the Cayenne is not here to lose.

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe Reviews Summary

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe arrives with a restyled front and rear, including new lighting signatures, and its available diesel engine has been upgraded for more horsepower and torque. However, most shoppers will recognize the new Tahoe for its improved interior and fancy touchscreen.

Verdict: Although the Tahoe receives only mild mechanical updates for the 2025 model year, its interior takes a healthy step forward. Its primary competitors–the Ford Expedition and the Jeep Wagoneer–no longer look or feel significantly nicer. An upgraded diesel engine also helps separate the Tahoe from the field, offering impressive fuel economy (for a vehicle of this size) and excellent performance.

2025 Porsche Cayenne

9/10

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

8/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne presented itself as a versatile SUV, available in both a standard SUV form with a squared-off rear end and a sporty Cayenne Coupe. The trim levels ranged from the base Cayenne to the high-performance Cayenne Turbo GT, each with unique exterior features. The GTS trim, which was the focus of our review, boasted high gloss black trim, bronze exhaust tips, and a distinctive front fascia with larger air intakes. The GTS also featured tinted headlights and red brake calipers visible through 21-inch anthracite gray wheels. Inside, the Cayenne offered extensive customization options, from color choices to seat belts, although these could significantly increase the price. The cabin was well-organized, with mechanical controls for essential features and a dashboard-mounted shifter toggle that freed up storage space.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe maintained its popularity as a full-size SUV, thanks to its combination of capability and practicality. The Tahoe's design updates included a new grille, headlights, and taillights, aligning it with other Chevy trucks. It offered six trim levels, each benefiting from these updates. The Z71 trim, which we primarily tested, was equipped for off-road adventures with full-length skid plates, front recovery hooks, and all-terrain tires on 20-inch wheels. Inside, the Tahoe featured a new 17.7-inch touchscreen display, stylish climate control buttons, and sophisticated air vents. The steering-column-mounted stalk replaced the previous electronic shifter buttons, enhancing the driving experience.

Performance

2025 Porsche Cayenne

9/10

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

10/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered a range of engines, all capable of delivering impressive performance. The base model featured a 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 348 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking more power, the Cayenne S offered a V8 with 468 hp, while the Turbo GT boasted 650 hp, though only available as a coupe. Plug-in hybrid options provided up to 729 hp. Our GTS-trim tester delivered 493 hp from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, with 486 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed transmission efficiently distributed power to all four wheels, allowing the Cayenne to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 171 mph. The GTS trim struck a balance between sporty and comfortable, with precise steering and an agile suspension system.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe stood out as one of the last full-size SUVs with a naturally aspirated V8 engine. It offered two V8 options: a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, and a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine was available, producing 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine was refined, smooth, and fuel-efficient, achieving up to 27 mpg on the highway. All Tahoe models featured a 10-speed automatic transmission, with RWD standard except for the 4WD-only Z71 trim. The Tahoe's steering was surprisingly light, but the brake pedal felt heavy and difficult to modulate. Suspension options included Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride adaptive suspension, enhancing ride quality and comfort.

Form and function

2025 Porsche Cayenne

7/10

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

7/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered a la carte customization, with limited standard features. The base model included eight-way power-adjustable seats, two-zone climate control, and ambient lighting. Higher trims like the GTS added a GT Sport steering wheel and Race-Tex headliner. The options list was extensive, allowing buyers to personalize their Cayenne with features like carbon fiber or aluminum interior accents. However, the Cayenne only accommodated five passengers, with limited cargo space compared to competitors. The standard Cayenne offered 27.3 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 60 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The coupe version had slightly less space, and plug-in hybrid models sacrificed some utility.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe excelled in accommodating passengers and cargo. With the 5.3-liter V8, RWD, and Max Trailering package, it could tow up to 8,400 pounds. The Tahoe featured a 24-gallon fuel tank, providing an impressive range with the diesel engine. Cargo volume was generous, with 122.9 cubic feet available with all seats folded. With the second row in place, there were 72.6 cubic feet, but only 25.5 cubic feet with all seats in position. The Tahoe offered a 24-inch wheel option, requiring Magnetic Ride Control for improved ride quality. However, these wheels were expensive and added to the vehicle's cost.

Technology

2025 Porsche Cayenne

8/10

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

8/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne impressed with its array of screens, including a standard 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen display. The Porsche Communication Management system supported wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Spotify, Apple Music, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An optional 10.9-inch passenger screen allowed for navigation and media control. The screens were well-organized and responsive, with voice control options. A head-up display provided essential information, though it appeared dim with polarized sunglasses. The Cayenne featured four high-speed USB-C charging ports and a cooled wireless charging area.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe made significant strides in technology, featuring a 17.7-inch touchscreen display, an 11-inch driver information screen, and an optional 15-inch head-up display. Standard features included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with Google Built-in offering seamless integration of Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Play Store. The touchscreen was user-friendly, but customizing the driver information display was challenging. The steering wheel was cluttered with buttons, complicating navigation. Despite these issues, the Tahoe represented a significant upgrade over its predecessor, with familiar physical controls for essential functions.

Safety

2025 Porsche Cayenne

7/10

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

7/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered standard safety features like parking sensors, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring. However, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning were optional. Porsche's InnoDrive adaptive cruise control system was advanced but not tested during our review. The Cayenne had not been rated by the NHTSA or IIHS for safety.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe had not been crash-tested by the NHTSA, but the 2024 model received four out of five stars in overall crash safety. The IIHS rated the 2024 Tahoe as Acceptable in the small overlap front test and Poor in the moderate overlap front updated test. The Tahoe included standard ADAS features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian and bicycle braking, automatic parking assist, a surround-view camera, and a teen driver monitoring system. GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving tech would be available in 2025.
