2025 Genesis GV80 Reviews Summary

The Genesis GV80 was introduced in 2021 and has proved itself to be a strong contender as a luxury crossover. Although the powertrain remains the same for 2025, the mid-size SUV gets a redesign both inside and out, adding a bit more sophistication, two new exterior colors and some sumptuous interior materials. We’ll see a sporty GV80 coupe with a supercharged engine later in 2025, but for now this traditional crossover is the company’s answer to luxury at an affordable price.

Verdict: Genesis improved the technology of the GV80 for 2025 by adding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the SUV returns poor fuel economy and the seats are far from comfortable. Still, the GV80 undercuts its European counterparts on price and definitely deserves a test drive.

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Reviews Summary

This two-row midsize SUV is designed for traveling almost anywhere at almost any time. It shares its platform with the rugged Toyota 4Runner SUV and Tacoma pickup truck, and is equipped with a turbocharged hybrid powertrain better at supplying power than efficiency. Additionally, it is more affordable than it has been in the past, but still commands a premium over its primary rivals. The 2025 Land Cruiser is almost unchanged following its 2024 redesign, which introduced the current 250-series model (known as the Land Cruiser Prado overseas) to the United States.

Verdict: There is a lot to like about the Land Cruiser, especially if you don’t care about fuel economy. Our test vehicle averaged 15.7 mpg, falling well short of expectations. That thirst for fuel easily ranks as the worst thing about this SUV. Also, we recommend upgrading from the base 1958 trim level.

2025 Genesis GV80

8/10

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

9/10

The 2025 Genesis GV80 was a testament to sophisticated design, offering two engine options and five trims, with the top Prestige trim featuring a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged engine. The redesign enhanced its already handsome appearance, with a more aggressive front bumper and a tweaked Genesis logo. The interior was equally stunning, boasting quilted Nappa leather seats and unique accents like basalt or recycled newspaper trim. The center console was thoughtfully designed, though the redundant infotainment dial seemed unnecessary given the ease of using the touchscreen.

In contrast, the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser offered a more utilitarian design, with two trim levels and a retro look in the base 1958 model. The more modern Land Cruiser trim provided a nicer interior with larger screens and critical off-roading hardware. The Premium Package added leather, a sunroof, and a roof rack, enhancing its upscale appeal. Despite its utilitarian nature, the Land Cruiser's interior was comfortable, though the second-row seats lacked support. The exterior design maximized off-road capabilities, with a traditional two-box SUV design and dark gray cladding underscoring its utility.

Performance

2025 Genesis GV80

8/10

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

6/10

The 2025 Genesis GV80 retained its powertrain options, with a standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. The top trim featured a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine delivering 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. All trims came with all-wheel drive, optimizing torque distribution for fuel economy and offering modes for various driving conditions. The GV80 excelled in acceleration and cruising, though it was more suited for comfort than sporty driving. The brakes were firm and linear, ensuring confident stops even on rough roads.

The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser featured Toyota's i-Force Max hybrid system, combining a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a total output of 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The full-time 4WD system, with electronic locking differentials, enabled a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. Despite an optimistic EPA rating of 23 mpg, real-world testing yielded only 15.7 mpg. The Land Cruiser excelled as a daily driver and off-road adventurer, though it struggled on twisty roads due to its suspension tuning. Its off-road capabilities were impressive, with features like Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Monitor enhancing its performance.

Form and function

2025 Genesis GV80

7/10

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

6/10

The 2025 Genesis GV80 offered a luxurious interior with power-adjustable heated seats, power-folding mirrors, and the new Mood Curator for a spa-like experience. The top trim included heated armrests, three-zone climate control, and ventilated front seats. However, the seats were uncomfortably rigid, detracting from long-haul comfort. The second row provided ample legroom, and a third row was available in the Advance trim, though it was best suited for children. Cargo space was expected to be similar to the 2024 model's 35 cubic feet, with a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds.

The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser upgraded from cloth to SofTex artificial leather in the base model, with the Premium Package adding real leather and a sunroof. The front seats were comfortable, but the second-row seats lacked support. The rear window design was less practical, and the center console's cool box seemed unnecessary. The Land Cruiser offered 46.2 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 82.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The high load floor required effort when loading heavy items, but the generous cargo space was a plus.

Technology

2025 Genesis GV80

8/10

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

9/10

The 2025 Genesis GV80 featured a 27-inch OLED screen for the digital gauge cluster and infotainment system, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available later. The infotainment system's menus were cumbersome, but a programmable favorite button offered a workaround. Standard technology included wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and USB-C ports. The top trim added a head-up display and a digital rearview mirror. The 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system provided sophisticated sound quality, surpassing previous setups.

The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser upgraded to dual 12.3-inch displays with the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, offering wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and access to music accounts. Five connected service plans were available, with Drive Connect providing cloud-based navigation and a digital assistant. The Premium Package included a JBL sound system, wireless charger, head-up display, and digital key technology. The voice recognition system performed well, enhancing the infotainment experience.

Safety

2025 Genesis GV80

9/10

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

7/10

The 2025 Genesis GV80 came equipped with advanced driver aids like lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance, and blind-spot monitoring. Upper trims added features like remote smart parking and a 360-degree camera system. The Highway Drive Assist system included an attention monitor, though it struggled with certain sunglasses. The NHTSA had not rated the 2025 model, but the 2024 model received high safety ratings. The IIHS rated the 2024 model "Good" in crashworthiness and "Average" in crash avoidance.

The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser featured Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. The adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist provided semi-autonomous highway driving, though performance varied. The Premium Package added front cross-traffic alert and Traffic Jam Assist. The NHTSA rated the Land Cruiser four stars overall, with high side-impact ratings but a mediocre rollover resistance rating.
