2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Reviews Summary

It’s easy to discount the value of a family sedan with so many crossovers on the road. But the fact is that this body style makes a lot of sense for a lot of families. The more manageable and maneuverable the vehicle, the better for teaching budding young drivers. Lighter weight also translates to better fuel economy, not to be sneered at when there are mouths to feed and tuitions to pay. And your typical midsize sedan is plenty spacious for four.

Fortunately, automakers have not forgotten about the venerable family sedan, keeping one another on their toes with updates, and it’s consumers who stand to benefit from that sort of healthy competition. Now, it’s the 2024 Hyundai Sonata’s turn for a mid-generation refresh.

Verdict: We already liked the Sonata Hybrid, and this refresh only improves it. The styling update and generous standard feature set make it a compelling choice, and the real automatic transmission is a virtually unique selling point.

2025 Honda Civic Reviews Summary

As it previously did for the Accord and the CR-V, Honda has now divided the Civic lineup by powertrain. This review focuses on the gas-only Civic, offered in LX and Sport trims or as the Civic Si, which we flew to Nashville to test drive. The Civic Hybrid (offered in Sport or Sport Touring trims) and the Honda Civic Type R are covered as separate models.

Verdict: We absolutely recommend the 2025 Honda Civic Si for driving enthusiasts. For those new to the road and anyone looking for an affordable sedan or hatchback, the base Civic is a great choice.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

9/10

2025 Honda Civic

7/10

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid underwent significant styling updates, enhancing its modern appeal. The front fascia featured a streamlined design with a single slim lightbar, known as the “seamless horizon lamp,” giving the sedan a contemporary look. The badge was repositioned above the grille, and the headlights were placed independently below it, drawing a clear family resemblance to the Hyundai Ioniq 6 while avoiding its more polarizing elements. The rear end of the Sonata, already equipped with a lightbar, now resembled the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe, forming a wide “H” shape with the taillights. A sporty black spoiler-esque trunk lid was also introduced. From the side, the 2024 Sonata closely resembled the 2023 model, with minimal changes to its profile. The Limited-trim test car featured 17-inch wheels and a fashionable enamel gray color called “Transmission Blue,” which could be selected without additional cost, unlike the extra-cost “Serenity White.”

The 2025 Honda Civic received subtle exterior updates, with a widened lower grille area and slimmer air inlets at the front corners, creating a more aggressive and eager look. The Civic Si enhanced its sporty appearance with a new honeycomb grille texture, echoing the interior theme. Standard LED headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs) were included, and the tail lights featured a smoked effect for an elevated rear styling. New colors were introduced, such as Solar Silver Metallic and Urban Gray Pearl, with body style-specific options like Blue Lagoon Pearl for the sedan and Sand Dune Pearl for the hatchback. The Civic Si offered a limited color palette, with Crystal Black Pearl and Rallye Red available at no extra charge. The Si also featured a new dedicated wheel design, an 18-inch matte black style with five double spokes, drawing inspiration from the Acura logo.

Performance

2025 Honda Civic

8/10

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid introduced an all-wheel drive (AWD) system for the first time, although it was limited to the gas version, with the hybrid remaining front-wheel-drive (FWD) only. The Sonata Hybrid's 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine and electric motor produced a total system output of 192 horsepower, delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission. Unlike most hybrids that use a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the Sonata Hybrid maintained an EPA rating of 47 mpg combined. The automatic transmission provided additional control, with steering wheel-mounted paddles managing regenerative braking levels in Eco mode and allowing gear shifts in Sport mode. The steering feel and handling were commendable, and the configurable driver-information display allowed simultaneous viewing of the tachometer and hybrid system's power flow.

The 2025 Honda Civic offered a range of powertrains, with the base model powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. All Civics were front-wheel-drive (FWD), with significant differences across the lineup. The Civic Si featured a turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 200 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 192 lb-ft of torque between 1,800 and 5,000 rpm. The Si was available only with a six-speed manual transmission, offering short throws and agreeable shifter action. The clutch was light and easy to manage, providing a comfortable yet responsive ride. The Civic Si included three dynamic drive modes: Normal, Sport, and Individual, with Sport mode increasing throttle sensitivity. A new Formula One-inspired shift indicator on the digital driver-information display added a unique touch, while the electric parking brake and lack of gear indication on the dash were noted as potential drawbacks for new manual drivers.

Rear-seat headroom was equally competitive, with 37.4 inches with the moonroof. The Sonata prioritized front-row legroom with 46.1 inches, while rear-seat passengers received 34.8 inches. The Limited-trim test car featured heated and ventilated seats, a slimmer steering wheel rim, and a trunk close button for added convenience.

The 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Hatchback provided 39.3 inches of front headroom and 42.3 inches of legroom, with the Civic Si's moonroof reducing front-seat headroom to 37.6 inches. Rear passengers enjoyed 37.1 inches of headroom and 37.4 inches of legroom. The Civic Si offered 14.1 cubic feet of trunk space, slightly less than other Civic Sedans. The Civic Hatchback boasted a 24.5-cubic-foot cargo compartment, surpassing competitors. Heated front seats were standard on the Civic Hybrid Sport and Si, with leather seats exclusive to the Hybrid Sport Touring.

The curved display combined the infotainment touchscreen and driver-information display into a single panel, with logical and intuitive haptic buttons for climate control and media functions. The Limited trim included navigation, natural language voice-recognition, and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, while a six-speaker sound system, HD Radio, Sirius XM, and a wireless charging pad were standard.

The 2025 Honda Civic Si was equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen, Google Built-In connectivity, and a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system, offering wireless smartphone projection. The Si also featured a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster with F1-inspired shift lights and navigation instructions from Google Maps. Lower trims received two front USB-C ports as standard, while the Si's tech features matched the range-topping Civic Sport Touring Hybrid trim.
