2022 Lexus NX Reviews Summary

With the redesigned 2022 Lexus NX, the luxury brand is aiming at a young, affluent, diverse, and tech-savvy customer. At the same time, the new 2022 NX is built upon the brand pillars that Lexus says will support all of its future products. They include bold design, advanced technology, electrification, and a dynamic tuning recipe called Lexus Driving Signature. Does the redesigned NX reflect those foundational building blocks? We went to Phoenix, Arizona to find out.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB Reviews Summary

Designed for Europe’s narrow city streets and tight parking spaces, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class aims to maximize utility in an SUV that is minimally sized. 2022 Lexus NX

7/10

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB

5/10

The 2022 Lexus NX, redesigned and available in four model series, offered a range of trim levels from base to Luxury, with prices starting at $37,950. The NX 350 F Sport and Luxury trims were particularly notable for their distinctive design elements, such as the unique mesh-pattern grille and sport-bolstered seats in the F Sport. The NX's interior embraced a minimalist approach, moving away from the button-heavy dashboard of its predecessor. However, the integration of many functions into the 14-inch touchscreen sometimes made it challenging for drivers to quickly access features. Despite this, the NX maintained high-quality materials, though some elements, like the turn signal, felt less premium.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB, positioned between the GLA and GLC in the lineup, came in GLB250 and AMG GLB35 specifications. The AMG GLB35, with a starting price of $51,000, featured options like metallic paint and 21-inch wheels, enhancing its visual appeal. The GLB's design was functional, with a steep windshield and nearly vertical rear window, giving it a boxy appearance. Inside, the GLB boasted a beautifully crafted cabin with high-definition displays and ambient lighting. However, the controls required some acclimation, and the road noise, especially with the optional 21-inch wheels, was notably loud, detracting from the traditional luxury experience.

Performance

2022 Lexus NX

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB

8/10

The 2022 Lexus NX offered two electrified versions, with the NX 350h delivering 239 horsepower and the NX 450h+ providing 302 horsepower. The NX 350 featured a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The NX 350 F Sport added driving modes like Sport S and Sport+, along with an adaptive variable sports suspension. The F Sport felt agile on winding roads, while the Luxury trim offered a more relaxed driving experience. Despite improvements, the turbocharged engine lacked the refinement of its German counterparts, and the NX was not suited for off-road adventures due to its limited ground clearance.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB employed a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, with the AMG GLB35 version producing 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The AMG GLB35 featured an AMG SpeedShift eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and AMG Performance variable 4Matic AWD. It accelerated to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, with an EPA fuel economy rating of 22 mpg in combined driving. The AMG GLB35 emphasized performance, with a firm ride and responsive handling, especially in Sport+ mode. However, the powertrain exhibited some lag, and the ride was firm, making it less comfortable for daily driving compared to the GLB250.

The 2022 Lexus NX offered increased interior space, with a 14% increase in cargo capacity behind the back seat, totaling 22.7 cubic feet. The interior was comfortable, with heated and ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. The Luxury trim featured ambient lighting with 14 themes, enhancing the cabin's ambiance. Rear-seat passengers enjoyed ample space, and practical storage was available throughout the cabin.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB provided a roomy interior, with an optional third-row seat suitable for children. Standard features included dual-zone automatic climate control and power-adjustable front seats. The GLB offered a panoramic sunroof and a 64-color ambient lighting system. The rear doors opened wide, revealing comfortable seating for two adults, though the optional third-row seat reduced cargo space. The GLB's cargo area offered 22 cubic feet of space, expandable to 62 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded.

The 2022 Lexus NX featured the new Lexus Interface infotainment system, with a standard 9.8-inch touchscreen and an optional 14-inch screen. The system included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Voice Assistant technology, and cloud-based features. A 10-speaker sound system was standard, with a 17-speaker Mark Levinson system available. The Voice Assistant responded to natural commands, and the NX offered a digital key and a head-up display. However, the touchscreen collected fingerprints and lacked a tuning knob.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB's MBUX infotainment system included a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and touchscreen. Standard features included Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Premium Package added satellite radio, while the Multimedia Package offered navigation with augmented reality. The MBUX system was user-friendly, with natural voice recognition and a digital assistant. The navigation system's augmented reality technology was particularly impressive.

The 2022 Lexus NX came equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, featuring advanced driver assistance systems like Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist and Oncoming Vehicle Detection. The NX also included blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and Safe Exit Assist. Premium trim added rear pedestrian detection and an adaptive front lighting system.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB lacked the optional Driver Assistance Package, which included features like adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Standard safety features included Active Brake Assist, blind-spot monitoring, and Mercedes-Benz emergency call service. However, the absence of certain advanced safety technologies was notable.
