2019 Audi A6 Reviews Summary

One of Audi’s four Russian-doll sedans, the redesigned 2019 A6 is both instantly familiar and radically different from its predecessor. Initially available with a single drivetrain choice, and in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim, the new Audi A6 is clearly similar to the vehicle it replaces. But major differences include a completely new approach to the company’s Multi-Media Interface (MMI), a light-electrified hybrid powertrain, and more sophisticated driver-assistance technologies.

2020 Nissan Versa Reviews Summary

When you're on a tight budget and need to replace a car, you often face a tough choice: Do you buy a new small car or something that’s pre-owned but has more space?

For many years, if you were in the market for a new car, few came as cheaply as the Nissan Versa. Not only was it marketed as the least-expensive car in the United States, but it also had a plucky, underdog appeal to it. However, the charm of the Versa started to wear off as its shortcomings became more apparent.

If you look at the “cheap” end of the market, you'll find some pretty unlovable cars, like the Mitsubishi Mirage and Chevrolet Spark. But there are also some bright spots. The Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent are both competent cars in their own ways, and the Honda Fit has always been a serious player. With the Fit, you never felt like you were seriously compromising to meet your budget.

It seems as though Nissan has caught on to the realization that racing to the bottom works for only so long. Buyers have certainly caught on to the notion that you can have a small car that’s actually kind of good (See: Fit). In response, Nissan has rolled out the all-new 2020 Versa. It’s no longer the cheapest car in America, and in fact, it costs a couple of thousand dollars more than last year's version. But does that mean it’s more car, too? Read on to find out.

Look and feel

2019 Audi A6

9/10

2020 Nissan Versa

7/10

The 2019 Audi A6 presented a refined and modern aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the automaker's Prologue Concept. It featured a wider single-frame grille, subtle fender swells reminiscent of the original Audi Quattro, and innovative LED lighting with animated sequences. These elements, combined with a short front overhang and rakish roofline, maintained the A6's lineage while offering a contemporary look. The interior was luxurious, with high-quality materials and sophisticated design, though it had limited space for personal items. Despite its elegance, the cabin had minor drawbacks, such as creaking when the chassis flexed and plastic pieces on the seat backs that could scuff shoes.

The 2020 Nissan Versa adopted a more sophisticated design, shedding the oversized features of its predecessor. It took cues from its larger siblings, the Maxima and Altima, without directly copying their design elements. Inside, the Versa shared similarities with the Nissan Kicks, offering a straightforward yet stylish cabin with a two-tone theme. The Versa provided ample front-seat legroom, even for taller drivers, but sacrificed rear-seat space compared to the previous model. The trunk remained spacious at 15 cubic feet, making it one of the largest in its class, though the loss of rear legroom was noticeable for passengers.

Performance

2019 Audi A6

8/10

2020 Nissan Versa

5/10

The 2019 Audi A6 delivered an exhilarating driving experience, powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This allowed the A6 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds. The engine was paired with a 7-speed S tronic automated manual transmission and a Quattro Ultra AWD system, which operated as FWD until conditions required AWD. The A6 also featured a mild hybrid system with a 48-volt electrical system, enhancing fuel efficiency. Despite the EPA's 25 mpg estimate, real-world testing yielded 22.9 mpg. The A6's steering, brakes, and adaptive damping suspension contributed to its dynamic performance, though the brake pedal felt numb in urban settings.

The 2020 Nissan Versa improved its performance with a revised 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, now producing 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. This engine was paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT, with the latter standard on SV and SR trims. The Versa's acceleration was decent, and the CVT managed power effectively, offering a Sport mode for livelier performance. Fuel economy was competitive, with the CVT achieving 32 mpg city, 40 highway, and 35 combined. The Versa's steering was responsive, and while the body leaned at higher speeds, it settled quickly for precise handling.

Form and function

2019 Audi A6

5/10

2020 Nissan Versa

6/10

The 2019 Audi A6 offered a comfortable interior with optional 18-way multi-contour front seats featuring massage programs. However, space was limited, and the trunk measured just 13.7 cubic feet due to the 48-volt electrical system's battery. Rear-seat passengers enjoyed comfort with heated seats and 4-zone climate control, but storage space was minimal.

The 2020 Nissan Versa retained a large trunk at 15 cubic feet, but rear legroom decreased by 6 inches compared to the previous model. While the backseat was less accommodating, the front seats provided ample legroom for taller drivers. The Versa's interior was practical for personal commuting, though less ideal for carpooling or ridesharing.

Technology

2019 Audi A6

10/10

2020 Nissan Versa

8/10

The 2019 Audi A6 excelled in technology, featuring Audi's MMI with dual touchscreens, Google Earth navigation, handwriting recognition, and a surround-view camera. The Audi Virtual Cockpit digital instrumentation was a standout, offering superior design and integration. The Bang & Olufsen sound system provided excellent audio quality, even in its lesser configuration.

The 2020 Nissan Versa offered a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and Siri Eyes Free as standard. The SV trim added NissanConnect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an upgraded instrument panel featuring a digital screen. This setup provided functionality similar to Audi's Virtual Cockpit, enhancing the driving experience with seamless technology integration.

Safety

2019 Audi A6

2020 Nissan Versa

8/10

The 2019 Audi A6 included a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems, with advanced features available on higher trims. These included adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, and intersection assistant. The Prestige trim added HD Matrix LED headlights, though night-vision assistant was optional.

The 2020 Nissan Versa introduced standard driver-assistance features like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning. While these features enhanced safety, they also increased repair costs due to sensor integration. The Versa also included a reversing camera and Nissan's Easy Fill Tire Alert.
