2025 INFINITI QX80 Reviews Summary

The 2025 Infiniti QX80 is the Nissan luxury brand’s de facto flagship. It’s a full-size SUV that competes with the BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. The QX80 benefits from a redesign for 2025 with new styling, a new powertrain, and updated tech features.

Verdict: The QX80 emphasizes interior space and tech gadgets over driving dynamics.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Reviews Summary

It would appear to be the calendar, not the competition, that has the Ioniq 5 due for a mid-cycle refresh. We liked it when it burst onto the scene as an angular oddball in a sea of soft-lined sameness, and it has only improved over the last few years.

Verdict: Hyundai makes minor but welcome changes and avoids tweaking the many things that were working well, successfully making a good thing better.

2025 INFINITI QX80

8/10

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

9/10

The 2025 INFINITI QX80 underwent its first redesign since 2017, growing slightly in length and width while maintaining its height. It retained its body-on-frame architecture, but with a new frame that significantly improved torsional and lateral stiffness. The QX80's styling became more expressive, particularly at the front, with a larger grille and a distinctive stacked-headlight setup. The rear end maintained its general shape but featured full-width taillights with over 300 LEDs. The QX80 was offered in four trim levels, with varying wheel sizes and designs, and included a panoramic moonroof as standard. Inside, the QX80 received a high-tech makeover with a large horizontal display and 64-color ambient lighting, although the use of shiny black plastic trim detracted from the premium feel.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 retained its distinctive appearance, drawing retro comparisons to the Lancia Delta. The mid-cycle refresh brought mild revisions to the front fascia, but the overall styling remained largely unchanged. The new XRT trim stood out with red tow hooks and black plastic bumper cladding featuring a "digital camouflage" pattern. The Ioniq 5's color palette expanded, and new wheel designs were introduced. Inside, the Ioniq 5's cabin remained open and uncluttered, with minor changes to the center console for improved functionality. The XRT trim featured a dark interior with all-weather floor mats and debossed XRT logos on the seats.

Performance

2025 INFINITI QX80

6/10

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

8/10

The 2025 INFINITI QX80 was powered by a new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, replacing the previous 5.6-liter V8. A nine-speed automatic transmission replaced the old seven-speed, with standard rear-wheel drive and optional four-wheel drive. The new engine and transmission provided a more energetic driving experience, although the active sound enhancement added an artificial noise during acceleration. The QX80 featured air suspension and adaptive damping on higher trims, allowing for adjustable ride height and improved aerodynamics. Despite its reinforced frame, the QX80's handling remained average for a large body-on-frame SUV.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT added a Terrain Mode button on the steering wheel, offering Snow, Mud, and Sand drive modes. These modes adjusted throttle mapping, wheel slip, power distribution, and regenerative braking. The XRT handled off-road conditions well, with all-wheel drive as standard. The Ioniq 5's battery capacity increased for 2025, providing longer ranges: up to 318 miles for single-motor RWD models and 259 miles for the AWD XRT. Power output varied with the powertrain, with RWD models producing up to 225 horsepower and AWD models delivering 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque.

The 2025 INFINITI QX80's redesign increased cargo space by 6%, 17%, and 28% behind the first, second, and third rows, respectively. This resulted in 22 cubic feet with all rows in place, 59 cubic feet with the third row folded, and 101 cubic feet with both the second and third rows folded. The QX80 offered a power liftgate and power-folding second- and third-row seats, with controls conveniently located throughout the cabin. Passenger space was generous, with increased legroom in the first and third rows. The QX80 had a maximum towing capacity of 8,500 pounds.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 addressed previous complaints by adding a rear windshield wiper. The interior featured a movable center console with fore-and-aft cupholders and a wireless charging pad. Heated front seats were standard, with additional features available on higher trims. Interior dimensions remained unchanged, with generous headroom and legroom. Cargo space measured 26.3 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 58.5 cubic feet with them folded down, plus an additional .85 cubic feet in the frunk. The Ioniq 5 transitioned to the North American Charging System, allowing access to Tesla's Supercharger network.

Google built-in apps provided navigation and voice recognition, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were supported. The QX80's infotainment system had a Nissan-like familiarity, with firm touchscreen presses required for some controls. All models had Klipsch sound systems, with higher trims offering a 24-speaker version with Individual Audio tech. A 360-degree camera system and various camera views were available.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 retained its pair of 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, with improved functionality and faster processing speeds. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard. The Bose Premium Audio system was available on higher trims, while all models featured standard navigation, dynamic voice recognition, and Bluetooth connectivity.
