2025 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

Redesigned in 2024, the 2025 Traverse gets a few additional changes. The base LS trim level disappears and the upscale High Country trim level is new. Chevrolet also makes the formerly optional Trailering Package standard equipment—so it’s easier to take advantage of the Traverse’s 5,000-pound towing capacity—and a new Sun and Wheel Package is available. Those updates broaden this Chevy’s appeal but do not address perceived quality issues related to the powertrain and interior materials.

Verdict: Chevy gets a lot of things right with the 2025 Traverse. However, there are head-scratchers related to quality and usability. From the unpleasant engine note and cheap interior plastics to the fussy wiper controls and aggravating third-row folding process, the Traverse regularly draws unfavorable attention to itself.

2025 Nissan Armada Reviews Summary

The everyman’s version of the Infiniti QX80, Nissan’s full-size SUV gets an expanded range for 2025. It’s still offered in familiar SV, SL, and Platinum trims, but Platinum Reserve has joined the roster and so, for the first time ever, has PRO-4X. We tested both new trims on a first drive program hosted by the automaker in Franklin, Tennessee.

Verdict: Nissan has undeniably improved the Armada with this new generation, and the PRO-4X and the Platinum Reserve trim levels both bring something new to the table. The PRO-4X adds just enough adventure-ready content to make it worth a look to shoppers who may not have considered it before, while the Platinum Reserve challenges the value of stepping up to an Infiniti.

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

2025 Nissan Armada

9/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse showcased a commendable exterior design, aligning with Chevrolet's recent trend of stylish SUVs. Its interior followed suit with digital instrumentation and a Google-based infotainment system, offering an appealing layout. However, the quality of materials used inside the Traverse left much to be desired. The hard, glossy plastic and Evotex artificial leather detracted from the overall impression, especially given the Traverse's price point. Despite these shortcomings, the Traverse's design was generally well-received, with trims ranging from the LT to the RS, and our test vehicle, the Z71, featured additional off-road capabilities and a striking Radiant Red paint job.

In contrast, the 2025 Nissan Armada presented a bold and imposing exterior, reminiscent of its luxury counterpart, the Infiniti QX80. The high beltline and large grille made a strong impression, particularly on the PRO-4X model, which also featured a skid plate. The Armada's side profile appeared larger and more business-like, with distinctive design elements like the ARMADA-emblazoned accent strip. Inside, the Armada offered a premium feel, even in the more rugged PRO-4X trim, with leather seats and a padded center console. Higher trims like the Platinum Reserve added luxurious touches, such as quilting and unique color combinations, enhancing the overall cabin experience.

Performance

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

6/10

2025 Nissan Armada

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse was powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. While the engine provided ample power, its exhaust note was less than pleasing. The Traverse's Z71 trim, designed for off-road adventures, featured a unique suspension system, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a Twin Clutch AWD system. Despite its off-road capabilities, the Z71's ride was most appreciated during daily commutes, offering a smoother experience on rough roads. The Traverse's fuel efficiency was commendable, with an EPA rating of 21 mpg in combined driving, and our test vehicle slightly exceeded this estimate.

The 2025 Nissan Armada, on the other hand, boasted a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, delivering 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain, inspired by the GT-R, was paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Armada's PRO-4X trim was equipped with off-road features like an electronic locking rear differential and adaptive electronic air suspension, providing a 33-degree approach angle and 9.6 inches of ground clearance. The Armada's towing capacity reached up to 8,500 pounds, and its driving experience was enhanced by updated electric power steering and adaptive air suspension, offering comfort both on and off the road.

Form and function

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

2025 Nissan Armada

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse offered a spacious interior, particularly in terms of width, accommodating up to eight passengers with its second-row bench seat. The Z71 trim featured heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, adding comfort during colder weather. However, the Traverse's third-row seating lacked a view due to the rear window design and did not include USB charging ports. Cargo space was generous, with 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row and a maximum of 97.6 cubic feet with the second row folded. Despite its spaciousness, the Traverse's storage solutions were not as practical as some competitors.

The 2025 Nissan Armada introduced a push-button transmission, freeing up center console space for a wireless charging pad. The Armada's "Zero Gravity" seats provided comfort, though they felt a bit deep. The SUV offered various seating configurations, with captain's chairs available in higher trims. Cargo volume increased across the board, with 20.4 cubic feet behind the third row and a maximum of 97.1 cubic feet. The Armada's headroom and legroom varied depending on the presence of a sunroof, but overall, it offered a comfortable and spacious interior, though it fell short compared to some American rivals.

Technology

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

2025 Nissan Armada

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse featured a standout 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google Built-in, offering Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to the Google Play Store. The system also supported wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a Wi-Fi hotspot and SiriusXM 360L satellite radio. The Traverse's technology was user-friendly, with a large touchscreen and effective voice recognition. Additional options included a camera-based digital rearview mirror and a high-definition surround-view camera system, enhancing the driving experience.

The 2025 Nissan Armada came standard with two large screens, 12.3-inch displays on lower trims and 14.3-inch screens on higher trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, along with six USB-C ports. The SL trim added a wireless charging pad and Google Built-In, allowing Google Maps to be displayed on the driver-information display. A head-up display was optional, and a 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio System became standard on the SL trim. The Armada's infotainment system was well-integrated, providing a seamless user experience.

Safety

2025 Nissan Armada

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse was equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane-keep assist. The Chevy Safety Assist and Safety Package 1 provided additional aids like active blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Enhanced Driving Package offered Super Cruise, a hands-free driving assist system, and remote-parking technology. The Traverse received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and a "Top Safety Pick" award from the IIHS.

The 2025 Nissan Armada featured Nissan's ProPILOT Assist suite, with varying levels of advanced driver-assistance technologies across trims. The most advanced version, ProPILOT Assist 2.1, offered hands-free highway-driving assist technology. The Armada also included Nissan Safety Shield 360, with features like automatic emergency braking and blind-spot warning. Higher trims offered a 3D Around View Monitor and Invisible Hood View, enhancing visibility and safety. The Armada's safety features were comprehensive, providing peace of mind for drivers and passengers.
