2025 BMW X3 Reviews Summary

With alluring proportions, unusual design, and impressive technology, the 2025 X3 seems like a bargain at its sticker price. However, this BMW is not about traditional luxury, so set those expectations aside. Instead, it is a study in minimalism, with simple forms, reductive controls, and Germanic austerity. Nevertheless, its comfort, technology, and driving dynamics make the X3 rewarding, and BMW provides plenty of options to tailor the X3 to your preferences.

Verdict: We had some unexpected trouble with BMW’s latest infotainment system, the Steering Assistant technology proved aggravating in certain situations, and our test vehicle’s 21-inch wheels and M Sport suspension tuning produced a firm, jiggly ride on imperfect road surfaces. However, despite these complaints, the redesigned 2025 BMW X3 impresses.

2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Reviews Summary

The all-new 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan corrects the last generation's user interface issues while making incremental improvements throughout the rest of the vehicle. The company’s best-selling model in North America easily meets expectations for a compact SUV, and is the only entrant with that German look and feel, though otherwise, it doesn't distinguish itself from the rest of the pack.

Verdict: The new Tiguan is a handsome crossover and the only German option in the sub-luxury segment. However, in amid an incredibly competitive field, the redesigned Tiguan does too little to separate itself from the crowd.

Look and feel

2025 BMW X3

8/10

2025 Volkswagen Tiguan

6/10

The 2025 BMW X3 was a striking presence in the SUV segment, boasting a seductive design that went beyond its oversized grille and aerodynamically sculpted flanks. Its athletic stance was accentuated by a long hood, a captivating dashboard-to-axle ratio, and a tapering greenhouse and roofline. The test model, adorned in Arctic Race Blue paint with chilly silver undertones, paired seamlessly with machined surface wheels and gloss black M Sport details. Inside, the cabin featured quality materials, though some plastic elements revealed its price point. The X3 was available in 30 xDrive and M50 xDrive models, with prices ranging from $51,125 to $65,875, making it a competitive option against rivals like the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

In contrast, the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan embraced a modern redesign, drawing inspiration from VW's electric vehicle lineup. Its front end featured narrower headlights and an illuminated VW badge and light bar in the top SEL R-Line trim. The grille appeared larger, with smaller actual openings, and the rear sported a single taillight bar. The interior received a minimalist update, with a tablet-like infotainment display and digital instrument panel. The Tiguan's cabin offered average materials quality, with improvements in storage space due to the relocated gear selector. The absence of a third row increased second-row legroom, enhancing passenger comfort.

Performance

The 2025 BMW X3 30 xDrive was powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Despite its 4,176-pound weight, the X3 achieved a respectable zero-to-60 mph time of six seconds, thanks to its eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive AWD system. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system improved responsiveness, while the M50 xDrive variant offered a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 393 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, reaching 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The X3's sport-tuned suspension and performance tires provided an engaging driving experience, though ride quality suffered on imperfect roads.

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 201 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Tiguan offered front-wheel drive, with 4Motion AWD available. Acceleration was expected to reach 60 mph in approximately 8.5 seconds, providing adequate performance for most drivers. The Tiguan's suspension prioritized comfort, smoothing over road imperfections while maintaining composure in corners. A more powerful Turbo variant was anticipated for 2026, offering increased output for spirited driving.

Form and function

The 2025 BMW X3's interior provided a spacious feel, with a simple dashboard featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The power-adjustable front seats offered comfort and ventilation, while the rear seats were less accommodating. The cargo area measured 31.5 cubic feet, with a lightweight cargo cover and additional storage under the load floor. The 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat allowed for versatile cargo and passenger arrangements.

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan, without a third row, increased second-row legroom by 1.5 inches. The interior featured traditional button controls, improving usability. The center console offered enhanced storage, with cupholders, a smartphone slot, and a deep armrest bin. Cargo capacity was not finalized, but the angled liftgate limited loading of bulkier items. Remote seatback releases and a power liftgate added convenience.

The 2025 BMW X3's BMW Curved Display featured the new iDrive 9 software, offering a Quick Select user experience. However, issues with profile creation and system responsiveness marred the experience. The navigation system provided accurate directions, and wireless Apple CarPlay worked flawlessly. Despite frustrations, the problems may have been unique to the test vehicle.

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan came standard with a digital instrument panel and a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, with a 15-inch display available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, paired with a wireless phone charger. A volume knob replaced capacitive-touch sliders, and the Atmospheres feature combined ambient lighting and audio settings. The standard audio system performed well, with a premium Harman Kardon option available.

The X3 earned a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA.

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan's safety features included frontal collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. The Emergency Assist system slowed the vehicle to a stop if the driver was incapacitated. The SE R-Line added a head-up display, while the SEL R-Line included a surround-view camera system.
