2025 Acura MDX Reviews Summary

People want stylish, reliable, and safe vehicles equipped with simple controls, intuitive technology, and enjoyable driving dynamics. Of course, value is a part of that equation, particularly when it comes to fuel economy. We’re happy to report the refreshed 2025 Acura MDX meets nearly all of those requirements. Furthermore, Acura has apparently gotten the user-experience and user-interface message loud and clear, as the changes to the 2025 MDX reflect a shift to simplicity, sophistication, and refinement.

Verdict: This year’s updates make the 2025 Acura MDX more appealing than ever. However, this is not a fuel-efficient choice and the standard V6 engine is somewhat underwhelming. Acura needs to install a hybrid or plug-in hybrid in the MDX as soon as possible if it wants to woo customers shopping in this segment.

2025 Dodge Durango Reviews Summary

In production since 2011, the Durango exits stage left following the 2025 model year. For its final run down the Detroit assembly line, Dodge cuts the lineup in half, dropping the SXT, Citadel, and SRT 392 versions while retaining the GT, R/T, and SRT Hellcat. Dodge will sell the Durango in a series of special edition models, including an R/T 20th Anniversary Edition and three “Last Call” Hellcats: Silver Bullet, Hammerhead, and Brass Monkey.

Verdict: Though the Durango is now 15 years old, it has aged remarkably well and remains a likable if flawed midsize three-row SUV. However, time waits for no vehicle, and the Dodge Durango has reached the end of its road. For now.

Look and feel

2025 Acura MDX

8/10

2025 Dodge Durango

7/10

The 2025 Acura MDX received subtle exterior updates, including a new grille, revised front bumper, and darkened lights, enhancing its sporty appeal. Interior changes were more significant, with a new touchscreen infotainment system replacing the touchpad interface, adding storage space. The MDX Advance and A-Spec Advance trims featured seats from the previous Type S model, while the Type S got a new design. Enhanced sound insulation improved cabin quietness, though the gloss black plastic trim on the dashboard was prone to collecting dust and smudges. Controls were logically placed, making them easy to use.

The 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Premium, with the Silver Bullet special edition, featured a satin black hood, unique wheels, and dark badges, adding visual attitude. Inside, it had dark red Nappa leather seats and a suede headliner, but the plastic surfaces were less impressive for its price. The Durango felt solidly constructed, offering a comfortable and roomy interior, though the performance seats lacked secure support during spirited driving.

Performance

2025 Dodge Durango

8/10

The 2025 Acura MDX offered a performance-oriented experience with its A-Spec design and Type S engineering. The Type S featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 355 horsepower, while the standard 3.5-liter V6 delivered 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. The MDX provided a smooth ride with various driving modes, though it wasn't particularly fast. It averaged 18.4 mpg in testing, slightly below its EPA rating. The MDX handled well on twisty roads, though it wasn't designed for off-roading, offering limited ground clearance.

The 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat boasted a 710-hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine with 645 lb-ft of torque, accelerating to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. It had a top speed of 180 mph and could tow up to 8,700 pounds. Despite its power, fuel economy was poor, averaging 12.2 mpg. The Durango featured a full-time AWD system, adaptive damping suspension, and Brembo brakes, providing a track-ready feel. It excelled in performance, offering outstanding grip and control, though it was less precise than some German competitors.

The third row was accessible and comfortable for adults. Cargo space was 17.2 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 85.1 cubic feet with seats folded. The Durango featured a power liftgate and ample storage options, including a large center console.

A head-up display and surround-view camera system were available on higher trims.

The 2025 Dodge Durango came with a Uconnect 5 system and a 10.1-inch touchscreen, offering wireless smartphone integration and a Harman Kardon audio system. It included SRT Performance Pages for tracking performance metrics. The system supported dual-phone pairing and had a voice recognition system, though it required specific commands.

The 2025 Acura MDX featured AcuraWatch with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. AcuraWatch 360, exclusive to the Type S Advance, added advanced features like front cross-traffic alert. The MDX maintained a five-star NHTSA rating, though SH-AWD models lacked a rollover rating. The 2024 model earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.

The 2025 Dodge Durango had basic safety features, including forward-collision warning and blind-spot monitoring. Optional upgrades included adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. The Durango received a four-star NHTSA rating and a concerning performance in IIHS tests, particularly in the small overlap frontal-impact test.
