2024 Toyota Tundra Reviews Summary

Toyota has been trying to crack the full-size pickup truck code for over 30 years. The company’s first try was the T100, followed by three generations of Tundras that got bigger and more capable with each redesign. The 2024 Tundra is a massive Texas-built truck, but it still can’t match the towing and payload capacities of the segment leader, and it bests only the Ram 1500 when it comes to towing a trailer. The Tundra also lacks the diversity of configurations you’ll find at the Chevy, Ford, and Ram stores.

Verdict: When you talk to longtime Tundra owners and recent converts, the common theme is reliability. We can’t tell you if the current third-generation Tundra is reliable after many years of service, but Toyotas are well-known for their dependability. So if you like the 2024 Toyota Tundra and it can serve your needs, help it to pull up a chair to the big boy's truck table.

2025 Ford F-150 Reviews Summary

Available in three cab styles with three bed lengths and eight trim levels, there is a 2025 F-150 for almost any budget or requirement. Six powertrains are also on the menu, and you can opt for an electric version called the F-150 Lightning. For the 2025 model year, Ford has added a slew of new standard and optional driver-assistance systems to the F-150, and a plush new Platinum Plus option package offers extra decadence for luxury-truck buyers.

Verdict: The depth and breadth of the 2025 Ford F-150 lineup are downright staggering. Fortunately for Ford, each version of this truck boasts serious substance, and while some rivals may be more appealing in one way or another, considered as a whole, the F-150 is the best light-duty pickup truck your money can buy.

2024 Toyota Tundra

4/10

2025 Ford F-150

8/10

The 2024 Toyota Tundra was designed with a massive grille, intended to enhance powertrain cooling and ensure long-term reliability. However, this engineering choice resulted in a polarizing appearance that not everyone appreciated. Despite this, the Tundra's overall design was considered appealing, with its industrial theme and camo-pattern detailing conveying a sense of durability and strength. Unfortunately, the interior's plastic components detracted from the truck's perceived build quality, as they often produced creaking and clattering noises. The Tundra was available in various configurations, including Double Cab and CrewMax styles, with multiple trim levels and a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine. The TRD Pro model, which we tested, featured a hybrid version of this engine, offering impressive power and off-road capabilities.

In contrast, the 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor SuperCrew was a standout with its off-road focus and distinctive design elements. It featured a robust 5.0-liter V8 engine, providing ample power and a thrilling sound. The Tremor's exterior was marked by a mix of body-color and black details, accented with Active Orange highlights and exclusive wheels. Inside, the cabin boasted a black interior with orange accents and optional leather upholstery, creating a rugged yet comfortable atmosphere. The F-150 Tremor's interior was well-regarded for its industrial appearance and practicality, with digital instrumentation and a touchscreen infotainment system that offered ease of use. The truck's size, however, posed challenges in tight spaces, but its off-road capabilities and highway comfort made it a versatile choice.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro was engineered for off-road excellence, yet it also delivered a satisfying on-road experience. It came equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine, producing 358 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The TRD Pro variant featured a hybrid version of this engine, known as the i-Force Max powertrain, which generated an impressive 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. This setup allowed the Tundra to tow up to 11,175 pounds and carry a 1,600-pound payload. The truck's off-road prowess was enhanced by features like a part-time 4WD system, locking rear differential, and various off-road driving modes. However, its forward visibility was compromised by design elements, and the Multi-Terrain Monitor camera system was not always helpful. Despite these drawbacks, the Tundra TRD Pro excelled in desert environments, offering a thrilling driving experience.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor, on the other hand, was powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine, delivering 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. This engine provided a towing capacity of 9,900 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,725 pounds. While the V8 offered a sensational sound, the optional twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 was more capable and fuel-efficient. The Tremor's off-road capabilities were bolstered by a long-travel suspension, skid plates, and various driving modes. Ford's Trail Control system further enhanced its off-road performance. However, the truck's size could be a hindrance on narrow trails, and its all-terrain tires limited handling on twisty roads. Despite these challenges, the F-150 Tremor offered a quiet and comfortable highway ride, making it a versatile choice for both off-road adventures and daily driving.

Form and function

2024 Toyota Tundra

4/10

2025 Ford F-150

7/10

The 2024 Toyota Tundra offered a spacious interior typical of modern full-size crew-cab trucks. However, the i-Force Max's battery placement eliminated rear underseat storage and a flat rear cab floor, limiting in-cab storage options. This proved inconvenient during a family outing, as the lack of storage space forced a switch to a midsize crossover SUV. The Tundra's cargo bed lacked some of the helpful features found in rival trucks, such as adjustable cargo tie-downs and innovative tailgate designs. Despite these shortcomings, the Tundra provided decent storage space and comfortable seating, although the driver's seat caused some discomfort during long drives.

In contrast, the 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor offered ample interior space and comfort. The truck featured oversized, power-adjustable front seats and a spacious rear bench, with options for heated and ventilated seats. The interior was well-suited for long-haul comfort, and the optional panoramic sunroof and power sliding rear window enhanced the driving experience. Storage space was plentiful, with the Mobile Office package transforming the center console into a workstation. The Tremor's cargo bed featured the Pro Access tailgate, offering versatility for loading and unloading. Overall, the F-150 Tremor provided a practical and comfortable interior, making it a strong contender in the full-size truck segment.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro featured a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. While these were the only modern design elements in the cabin, they offered robust features. The infotainment system required activation of complimentary trial subscriptions to connected services, with varying durations for each service. Safety Connect, a crucial feature, provided automatic collision notification and emergency assistance. The Tundra also included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system. Additional tech features included wireless smartphone charging and a surround-view camera, enhancing the truck's overall technology package.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor, on the other hand, featured dual 12-inch displays for digital instrumentation and infotainment. While these screens might seem small by modern standards, they offered impressive usability. The infotainment system, paired with a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, provided excellent performance. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, and the native navigation system and voice recognition technology were outstanding. The Tremor also included a widescreen head-up display and helpful cameras for off-roading and parking. Overall, the F-150 Tremor's technology package was comprehensive and user-friendly, making it a strong contender in the segment.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra came equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, a suite of collision avoidance and driver assistance systems. This package included adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and more. However, the lane-centering assist feature was less reliable, prompting drivers to turn it off. The Tundra received high marks in crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with five-star ratings for Crew Cab 4WD models. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Tundra a Top Safety Pick rating, although it received a Poor rating in a new frontal-impact test for rear-seat passengers.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor boasted an impressive array of safety features, including new additions for the 2025 model year. These included oncoming-traffic detection, evasive steering assist, and predictive speed assist. The F-150 also featured BlueCruise hands-free driving technology, which proved impressive during testing. While not infallible, BlueCruise was one of the best hands-free driver assist systems available. The F-150 received high marks in crash tests conducted by the NHTSA, with a five-star overall rating. It also performed well in IIHS crash tests, making it a strong contender in terms of safety.
