2024 Toyota Tundra Reviews Summary

Toyota has been trying to crack the full-size pickup truck code for over 30 years. The company’s first try was the T100, followed by three generations of Tundras that got bigger and more capable with each redesign. The 2024 Tundra is a massive Texas-built truck, but it still can’t match the towing and payload capacities of the segment leader, and it bests only the Ram 1500 when it comes to towing a trailer. The Tundra also lacks the diversity of configurations you’ll find at the Chevy, Ford, and Ram stores.

Verdict: When you talk to longtime Tundra owners and recent converts, the common theme is reliability. We can’t tell you if the current third-generation Tundra is reliable after many years of service, but Toyotas are well-known for their dependability. So if you like the 2024 Toyota Tundra and it can serve your needs, help it to pull up a chair to the big boy's truck table.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado Reviews Summary

The midsize truck segment is chock full of options to entice buyers, and the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado is a strong entry. We expect some buyers will have sticker shock when they see the price tag attached to this medium-sized crew cab truck, but it’s mostly priced on par with its primary competition.

Verdict: If you’re in the market for a right-sized truck that will fit in your garage and won’t be too hard to park in town, the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado is an appealing package. With a powerful standard turbocharged engine and multiple option packages designed to appeal to the off-road crowd, including the top-spec ZR2 Bison, the only thing the Colorado lineup is missing is a long-bed option to compete on level footing with the sales-leading Toyota Tacoma.

2024 Toyota Tundra

4/10

2025 Chevrolet Colorado

8/10

The 2024 Toyota Tundra was designed with a massive grille, intended to enhance powertrain cooling and ensure long-term reliability. However, this engineering choice resulted in a polarizing appearance that not everyone appreciated. Despite this, the Tundra's overall design was considered appealing, with its industrial theme and camo-pattern detailing conveying a sense of durability and strength. Unfortunately, the interior's plastic components detracted from the truck's perceived build quality, as they often produced creaking and clattering sounds. The Tundra was available in various configurations, including Double Cab and CrewMax styles, with multiple trim levels and a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine. Prices ranged from $39,665 to $78,845, with the TRD Pro model tested priced at $74,295.

The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado's exterior varied significantly depending on the trim level. The WT trim had a utilitarian look, while the LT added more refined elements like body-color door handles and side mirrors. The Trail Boss trim catered to off-road enthusiasts with features like a suspension lift and skid plates. The Z71 offered off-road capability with a more sophisticated appearance, and the ZR2 stood out with unique wheels and a distinctive hood. The ZR2 Bison package further enhanced off-road prowess with beadlock-capable wheels and additional protective features. Inside, the Colorado boasted a digital gauge cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Cloth seats were standard, with options for EvoTex and leather in higher trims.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro was built for off-road adventures but also delivered a satisfying on-road experience. It featured lighter BBS forged alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, and FOX shock absorbers, providing a smooth ride. The standard twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine produced 358 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The TRD Pro's hybrid version, the i-Force Max powertrain, delivered 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. It had a towing capacity of 11,175 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,600 pounds. The Tundra's off-road capabilities were enhanced by features like a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select modes, and Crawl Control. However, its forward visibility was limited, and the Multi-Terrain Monitor camera system was not always helpful. The Tundra averaged 17.1 mpg, slightly below the EPA's combined rating of 19 mpg.

The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado came standard with a 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder engine, producing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The eight-speed automatic transmission complemented the engine's performance, providing quick and smooth shifts. The Colorado's towing capacity was impressive at 7,700 pounds, matching the Jeep Gladiator and surpassing the Toyota Tacoma. The Trail Boss edition offered 9.5 inches of ground clearance, while the ZR2 boasted 10.7 inches. The ZR2 Bison provided over a foot of ground clearance and featured boron steel skid plates. Off-road modes included Normal, Off-Road, Terrain, Tow/Haul, and Baja. The ZR2's Multimatic DSSV shocks absorbed bumps effectively, and the Bison edition added jounce control dampers. The Colorado's off-road capabilities were further enhanced by locking front and rear differentials.

Form and function

2024 Toyota Tundra

2025 Chevrolet Colorado

7/10

The 2024 Toyota Tundra offered a spacious interior, typical of full-size crew-cab trucks. However, the i-Force Max's battery eliminated rear underseat storage and a flat rear cab floor, limiting storage options. The Tundra lacked some of the helpful features found in competitors' cargo beds, such as adjustable tie-down cleats and bumper corner steps. Loading items into the bed required effort, and the tailgate release mechanism was not as convenient as expected. Despite these drawbacks, the Tundra provided decent storage space and comfortable seating. The TRD Pro's wide seats and ample interior room were appreciated, though getting in and out could be challenging for shorter individuals.

The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado featured a four-door crew cab and a five-foot, two-inch short bed across all models. The interior controls were easily accessible, and the digital gauge cluster provided clear and customizable information. The front seats offered a comfortable, car-like seating position with sufficient headroom for tall occupants. However, the rear seat was more cramped, with limited legroom for taller passengers. The ZR2 Bison's suspension lift made entry and loading more challenging, though built-in bumper steps helped. The ZR2 Bison's payload and towing capacity were reduced compared to other trims, but the truck's off-road capabilities were impressive.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro featured a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system offered robust features, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota provided complimentary trial subscriptions to connected services, such as Remote Connect and Drive Connect. Safety Connect offered essential features like automatic collision notification and emergency assistance. The TRD Pro also included a 12-speaker JBL premium audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and a surround-view camera.

The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado's infotainment system was built on Google software, providing a user-friendly experience. The 11.3-inch touchscreen was appropriately sized, and Google built-in technology integrated apps and services seamlessly. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, and voice recognition was available. The Colorado's dashboard featured numerous buttons, dials, and switches, offering a tactile experience for controlling audio and climate settings.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra came equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which included adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and more. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert were available on higher trims. The Tundra received high safety ratings from the NHTSA, with five-star ratings for Crew Cab 4WD models. The IIHS awarded the Tundra a Top Safety Pick rating, though it received a Poor rating in the moderate overlap frontal-impact test for rear-seat passengers.

The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado had not been fully tested by the IIHS, but the NHTSA gave it a four-star overall safety rating. The Colorado came standard with Chevy Safety Assist, which included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. Additional safety features like blind-zone steering assist and rear park assist were standard, while others were optional. Chevy's Teen Driver technology was also standard, allowing parents to set limits for young drivers.
