2024 Toyota Sequoia Reviews Summary

The Toyota Sequoia gained a standard hybrid powertrain when it entered its third generation, just last year. While the tech updates were widely celebrated and the facelift considered unobjectionable even by its harshest critics, the move to hybrid power proved to be something of a mixed bag. Increased towing and hauling power bolstered the obvious advantage of improved fuel economy, but impact was somewhat dampened by the reduction in cargo and third-row space to accommodate the new battery.

Verdict: The Sequoia may not be the most capable full-size SUV in the segment, and it’s certainly not the most spacious. It is, however, the only hybrid in its class, and it offers a blend of seating capacity, towing power, and fuel efficiency you won’t find elsewhere-at least, not if you don’t want to go diesel.

2025 Dodge Durango Reviews Summary

In production since 2011, the Durango exits stage left following the 2025 model year. For its final run down the Detroit assembly line, Dodge cuts the lineup in half, dropping the SXT, Citadel, and SRT 392 versions while retaining the GT, R/T, and SRT Hellcat. Dodge will sell the Durango in a series of special edition models, including an R/T 20th Anniversary Edition and three “Last Call” Hellcats: Silver Bullet, Hammerhead, and Brass Monkey.

Verdict: Though the Durango is now 15 years old, it has aged remarkably well and remains a likable if flawed midsize three-row SUV. However, time waits for no vehicle, and the Dodge Durango has reached the end of its road. For now.

Look and feel

2024 Toyota Sequoia

7/10

2025 Dodge Durango

7/10

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia shared its platform with the Tundra pickup, featuring hexagonal grilles, wheel arches, and strong fender creases. Its muscular stance was influenced by exterior color, with the Capstone model showcasing more chrome in Celestial Silver. This gave it a somewhat dated appearance, reminiscent of a "cop car." However, a switch to Solar Octane orange and black accents transformed its look to a playful "Tonka truck." Inside, the Sequoia mirrored the Tundra with a blocky dash, physical controls, and a spacious center console. The Capstone trim boasted semi-aniline leather, while other trims offered various upholstery options. All models included power-adjustable front seats and a moonroof, enhancing comfort and customization.

The 2025 Dodge Durango, particularly the SRT Hellcat Premium with the Silver Bullet package, exuded a bold visual attitude with its satin black hood, unique wheels, and dark badges. The Triple Nickel paint added to its striking appearance. Inside, the Durango maintained a subdued yet premium feel with dark red Nappa leather seats and a suede headliner. The cabin was well-constructed, though some plastic surfaces detracted from its luxury. The Durango's interior was designed for comfort, with a leather and suede steering wheel and forged carbon fiber trim, providing a solid yet understated environment.

Performance

2024 Toyota Sequoia

2025 Dodge Durango

8/10

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia was exclusively a hybrid, using the iForce MAX powertrain with a twin-turbo V6 and electric motor, producing 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. This marked a significant increase over its predecessor. Fuel economy improved to 20 mpg combined with 4WD. The TRD Pro trim offered off-road capabilities with 4WD, a skid plate, and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Sequoia's towing capacity reached 9,520 pounds, with various towing upgrades available.

The 2025 Dodge Durango offered a range of powertrains, from a 295-hp V6 in the GT to a 710-hp supercharged V8 in the SRT Hellcat. The Hellcat's engine delivered 645 lb-ft of torque, accelerating to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and towing up to 8,700 pounds. Despite its power, fuel economy was poor at 12/17/13 mpg. The Durango featured AWD, an electronic limited-slip differential, and performance brakes. It handled like a performance vehicle, with adaptive damping suspension and Pirelli tires enhancing its track-ready feel.

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia offered 86.9 cubic feet of cargo space with seats folded. The third-row seats, positioned above the battery pack, affected headroom and legroom, making it less comfortable for taller passengers. Second-row captain’s chairs were available in higher trims, providing wide but flat seating. Automatic power-deploying running boards aided entry, though they required careful timing.

The 2025 Dodge Durango excelled in interior space, with heated and ventilated front seats and a large center console. The second-row captain’s chairs provided good leg support, though they sat low. The third row was accessible and comfortable for adults. Cargo space reached 85.1 cubic feet with seats folded, and the power liftgate was user-friendly.

The 2025 Dodge Durango came with a Uconnect 5 system, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, and wireless smartphone integration. The Harman Kardon audio system provided excellent sound quality. SRT Performance Pages allowed tracking of performance metrics, adding a sporty touch to the family SUV.
