2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Reviews Summary

Well, we say “finally.” In fact, the US market has only gone without the Land Cruiser for two years, but the fandom made it clear that was two years too many. The new stateside Land Cruiser is an all-new model for 2024. Its coming was presaged by the Lexus GX with which it shares a platform, but Toyota made sure that this midsize SUV falls squarely in its own segment.

Verdict: The new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is the latest in a spate of automotive reboots, and it just may be the best of them. The new Land Cruiser combines retro styling and excellent off-road capability with the latest in comfort and convenience and, of course, brand heritage. But Toyota may be relying too heavily on the revered nameplate to justify the price, particularly since it’s changed some of the fundamental characteristics of the model.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Reviews Summary

It would appear to be the calendar, not the competition, that has the Ioniq 5 due for a mid-cycle refresh. We liked it when it burst onto the scene as an angular oddball in a sea of soft-lined sameness, and it has only improved over the last few years.

Verdict: Hyundai makes minor but welcome changes and avoids tweaking the many things that were working well, successfully making a good thing better.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

9/10

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser was a nod to its iconic past with a boxy design and flat roof, reminiscent of its predecessors. Each of the three trims featured elements that paid homage to earlier models, such as the heritage grille and distinctive headlight designs. The lighting was updated to LED, blending classic inspiration with modern standards. The higher trims offered color-selectable fog lights, adding a contemporary twist. The interior was designed for comfort, with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel standard across all trims. The First Edition trim boasted real leather seats with unique logos, while the middle trim offered SofTex-covered seats. The cabin was spacious and comfortable, with a focus on driver comfort and visibility, thanks to a lowered beltline and cushy seating.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 maintained its distinctive appearance, drawing retro comparisons while standing out on the road. The mid-cycle refresh brought subtle changes to the front fascia but retained the signature "Parametric Pixel" lights and high rear spoiler. The new XRT trim featured red tow hooks and digital camouflage-patterned cladding, adding a rugged aesthetic. The interior remained minimalistic and modern, with minor updates to the center console for improved functionality. The Ioniq 5's cabin was open and uncluttered, offering a comfortable and spacious environment. The new model year introduced a rear windshield wiper and expanded color options, enhancing both form and function.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser was equipped with Toyota's i-Force MAX hybrid powertrain, combining a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 1.87-kWh battery pack and a 48-hp electric motor. This setup produced a total of 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. It featured an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard full-time four-wheel drive, with an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case. The Multi-Terrain Select system, available on mid-tier and First Edition models, operated in both 4Hi and 4Lo. The Land Cruiser also included an automatic limited-slip differential, rear- and center-locking differentials, and a push-button disconnect for the front sway bar. The updated CRAWL control function offered five speed settings and operated silently, enhancing off-road capability.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT introduced a Terrain Mode button on the steering wheel, offering Snow, Mud, and Sand modes that adjusted throttle mapping, wheel slip, power distribution, and regenerative braking. The XRT handled off-road conditions well, with all-terrain tires providing confidence and control. The Ioniq 5's AWD models featured dual motors, producing 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. The RWD models offered 168 to 225 horsepower, depending on the battery configuration. The Ioniq 5's battery capacity increased for 2025, extending the range to 318 miles for RWD models and 259 miles for the AWD XRT. The instant torque of the electric powertrain ensured a fun driving experience despite the vehicle's weight.
