2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Reviews Summary

We reviewed the GLC SUV when it was all-new for the 2023 model year–and available with only one powertrain. AMG variants have rejoined the GLC 300 for 2024, and the GLC Coupe, which was a carryover last year, now catches up with the redesigned GLC SUV. For the purposes of this review, we’ve focused our attention on the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, which we spent a week putting through its paces on our home turf.

Verdict: We suspect the AMG-tuned GLC misses the mark on what most shoppers are looking for in a luxury crossover, but for the right driver, it may very well prove worth the wait. For everyone else, the GLC 300 has everything we feel we have a right to hope for from a sub-$50k Mercedes-Benz.

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Reviews Summary

The 2025 Atlas is Volkswagen’s midsize, three-row crossover SUV. It debuted for the 2018 model year, designed specifically for Americans and manufactured in VW’s Chattanooga, Tennessee, assembly plant. Over the years, it has received numerous updates to keep it fresh and technologically competitive, most recently for 2024, when styling, powertrain, and tech upgrades were introduced. The 2025 Atlas adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and wireless charging in addition to two new color choices.

Verdict: This family-sized SUV has more interior space than most rivals, making the 2025 VW Atlas a great choice if passenger and cargo room are high on your list of requirements. However, unimpressive fuel economy, dissatisfying ride quality, and a sometimes-infuriating infotainment interface could have you mapping out alternatives to an Atlas.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC

8/10

2025 Volkswagen Atlas

8/10

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC underwent a generational redesign, maintaining a familiar look to keep its loyal fanbase content. Designers made subtle changes, such as repositioning door handles and narrowing the headlights for a more aggressive appearance. The taillights were updated with a connecting trim piece, and the rear design saw less chrome and a more pronounced trunk kick. The GLC Coupe retained its distinctive sloping profile, resembling an inflated hatchback, with a grille that differentiates AMG models from the GLC 300. Inside, the GLC impressed with its luxurious feel, featuring two-tone leather upholstery and a wood-and-metal dash. The interior was gadget-heavy, with numerous screens and ambient lighting, offering a class-leading experience for tech enthusiasts.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas offered a range of trims, with the SEL Premium R-Line standing out for its sporty look and standard equipment. The Atlas impressed with its chiseled, upscale appearance, enhanced by polished aluminum detailing and 21-inch wheels. The Mountain Lake Blue color resisted dirt, maintaining a clean look. Inside, the Atlas continued its premium feel with diamond-stitched leather and metallic accents. The digital instrumentation and large infotainment touchscreen promised a high-tech experience, though the touch-sensitive controls for temperature and volume were less satisfying. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Atlas provided a warm and inviting environment.

Performance

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC

7/10

2025 Volkswagen Atlas

4/10

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 featured a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 416 horsepower, surpassing the previous generation's V6. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system supported the engine, with a plug-in hybrid AMG GLC 63 expected in 2025. The base GLC 300 offered 255 horsepower, with an optional 4Matic AWD. Both powertrains used a nine-speed automatic transmission, with the GLC 43 featuring the AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed for faster shifts. The performance suspension provided improved handling but resulted in a firmer ride, making it less ideal for commuting.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas replaced its previous engines with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, delivering 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Despite initial skepticism, the engine proved refined and satisfying for daily driving. The Atlas returned 15.5 mpg in urban conditions and 19.2 mpg overall, slightly below EPA ratings. The ride quality was less impressive, with a brittle suspension and excessive body motions at highway speeds. However, the Atlas handled predictably on mountain roads, with responsive brakes and steering in Sport mode.

The GLC SUV offered 21.9 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 59.3 cubic feet with folded seats. The Coupe provided 17.6 cubic feet, increasing to 52.6 cubic feet with seats down.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas excelled in comfort and space, offering a roomy third-row seat and a cavernous cargo area. The SEL Premium R-Line's front seats were heated, ventilated, and massaging, with excellent visibility and a surround-view camera. The second-row bench accommodated three adults comfortably, with ample legroom and a panoramic sunroof. The third-row seat provided adequate leg support, with easy access and generous space. The Atlas offered 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 96.6 cubic feet with folded seats.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC featured an 11.9-inch touchscreen with the MBUX infotainment system, offering voice command functionality and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Exclusive trim added navigation and a Burmester sound system, while the Pinnacle trim included a head-up display and augmented reality navigation.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas used the MIB3 system on a 12-inch touchscreen, lacking traditional controls. The system's voice recognition was unreliable, making smartphone integration essential. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provided a better experience, with the Harman Kardon audio system delivering excellent sound. However, the MIB3 system had user-experience glitches, affecting usability.
