2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Reviews Summary

We reviewed the GLC SUV when it was all-new for the 2023 model year–and available with only one powertrain. AMG variants have rejoined the GLC 300 for 2024, and the GLC Coupe, which was a carryover last year, now catches up with the redesigned GLC SUV. For the purposes of this review, we’ve focused our attention on the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, which we spent a week putting through its paces on our home turf.

Verdict: We suspect the AMG-tuned GLC misses the mark on what most shoppers are looking for in a luxury crossover, but for the right driver, it may very well prove worth the wait. For everyone else, the GLC 300 has everything we feel we have a right to hope for from a sub-$50k Mercedes-Benz.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Reviews Summary

Well, we say “finally.” In fact, the US market has only gone without the Land Cruiser for two years, but the fandom made it clear that was two years too many. The new stateside Land Cruiser is an all-new model for 2024. Its coming was presaged by the Lexus GX with which it shares a platform, but Toyota made sure that this midsize SUV falls squarely in its own segment.

Verdict: The new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is the latest in a spate of automotive reboots, and it just may be the best of them. The new Land Cruiser combines retro styling and excellent off-road capability with the latest in comfort and convenience and, of course, brand heritage. But Toyota may be relying too heavily on the revered nameplate to justify the price, particularly since it’s changed some of the fundamental characteristics of the model.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC maintained a familiar aesthetic, ensuring it did not alienate its loyal fanbase. The redesign featured subtle changes, such as repositioned door handles and more aggressive headlights, while the taillights were connected by a trim piece across the back. The Coupe version retained its distinctive fastback roof, and the grille differentiated the AMG models from the GLC 300 with vertical bars reminiscent of a pinstriped uniform. Inside, the GLC exuded luxury with its two-tone leather upholstery and wood-and-metal dash treatment, complemented by an array of screens, buttons, and ambient lighting, making it a gadget-heavy yet sumptuous interior.

In contrast, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser embraced its iconic boxy design, with a flat roof and heritage details across its trims. The grille and headlights paid homage to past models, while modern LED lighting and color-selectable fog lights added a contemporary touch. The interior varied by trim, with cloth, SofTex, or real leather seats, all heated, and a focus on comfort with features like a heated steering wheel and optional moonroof. The cabin echoed Toyota's truck lineup, emphasizing comfort and capability, allowing drivers to focus on the terrain without discomfort.

It came with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard full-time 4WD. The Multi-Terrain Select system allowed operation in 4Hi or 4Lo, and the vehicle included standard rear- and center-locking differentials. The ability to disconnect the front sway bar enhanced off-road articulation, while the updated CRAWL control system provided silent, low-speed cruise control over challenging terrain.
