2024 Kia Sorento Reviews Summary

On the small end of the midsize SUV spectrum, the Sorento is a classic in-betweener. It’s big enough to get a standard third row and has more room than compact crossovers like the Toyota RAV4, but it’s smaller and cheaper than most three-row midsizes, including Kia’s Telluride and the Ford Explorer. Gas-powered 2024 Sorentos get a visual glow-up as well as major infotainment and safety system updates, and a new X-Pro trim. Hybrid and PHEV Sorentos, which we review separately, won’t get these changes until 2025.

Verdict: The 2024 Kia Sorento’s new looks make it seem bigger and fancier, and the X-Pro adds capability. There are more safety features and the Sorento’s tech is even easier to use. Demerits remain, namely the diminutive third row and pricey top trims, but the 2024 Sorento has lots to offer family buyers.

2025 Dodge Durango Reviews Summary

In production since 2011, the Durango exits stage left following the 2025 model year. For its final run down the Detroit assembly line, Dodge cuts the lineup in half, dropping the SXT, Citadel, and SRT 392 versions while retaining the GT, R/T, and SRT Hellcat. Dodge will sell the Durango in a series of special edition models, including an R/T 20th Anniversary Edition and three “Last Call” Hellcats: Silver Bullet, Hammerhead, and Brass Monkey.

Verdict: Though the Durango is now 15 years old, it has aged remarkably well and remains a likable if flawed midsize three-row SUV. However, time waits for no vehicle, and the Dodge Durango has reached the end of its road. For now.

Look and feel

2024 Kia Sorento

8/10

2025 Dodge Durango

7/10

The 2024 Kia Sorento received a significant visual update, aligning it more closely with its Kia siblings like the Telluride and EV9. It featured a robust new front end with vertically-stacked LED headlights and wing-like daytime running lights, giving it a larger and more intimidating presence. The rear updates were subtle, with higher trims boasting LED taillights and new bumpers. The rugged X-Line and X-Pro trims offered aggressive styling with blacked-out wheels and earth-tone paint, enhancing its outdoorsy appeal.

Inside, the Sorento showcased a redesigned dashboard with a clean, horizontal layout similar to the EV9. The gauge cluster and infotainment displays were unified under a single pane of glass, with SX and SX-Prestige trims featuring twin 12.3-inch displays. The cabin materials were upgraded, offering a more upscale feel with options like faux open-pore wood grain and quality stitching. Optional green and brown interior colors added character, making the Sorento feel more premium than some competitors.

The 2025 Dodge Durango, particularly in the SRT Hellcat Premium trim, exuded a bold and aggressive look with the Silver Bullet special edition package. This included a satin black hood, unique wheels, and dark badges, enhancing its visual attitude. Inside, the Durango maintained a subdued yet premium feel with dark red Nappa leather seats and a suede headliner. The cabin was solidly constructed, though some plastic surfaces detracted from its luxury appeal.

Performance

2024 Kia Sorento

8/10

2025 Dodge Durango

8/10

The 2024 Kia Sorento offered a base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower, which felt underpowered for its weight. The turbocharged 2.5-liter engine on higher trims delivered 281 horsepower, providing a more lively performance. The Sorento's AWD option added ground clearance and improved usability, making it capable of light off-road duties. The X-Pro trim excelled in challenging conditions, offering a smoother ride with all-terrain tires and a towing capacity of 4,500 pounds.

The 2025 Dodge Durango featured a simplified lineup with powerful engine options. The SRT Hellcat boasted a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 710 horsepower, accelerating to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and towing up to 8,700 pounds. Despite its power, the Durango's fuel economy was poor, with an EPA rating of 12/17/13 mpg. The SRT Hellcat's performance was enhanced by a full-time AWD system, adaptive damping suspension, and Brembo brakes, making it feel track-ready.

Cargo space was generous, with 17.2 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 85.1 cubic feet with seats folded. The 2025 Dodge Durango came with a Uconnect 5 infotainment system and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. It included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The SRT Hellcat featured SRT Performance Pages for tracking performance metrics.
