2024 Kia K5 Reviews SummaryIf you can overlook the real-world fuel economy and unimpressive crash-test ratings, then a 2024 Kia K5 is a steal of an automobile. (Don’t worry, it has an engine immobilizer system to prevent theft.) It comes in LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT trim levels, and the only change for 2024 is standard heated seats for the GT-Line trim. Turbocharging is standard, and you can get all-wheel drive if you live where the sun often doesn’t shine. Verdict: It’s a shame Kia doesn’t offer the K5 with a hybrid powertrain, and its performance in new, tougher-to-pass crash tests is worrisome. But there is no doubt the 2024 Kia K5 is a stylish, comfortable, enjoyable, and technologically advanced midsize car. And the price is undeniably nice.
2025 Toyota Camry Reviews SummaryThe Camry is a perennial favorite among families. It’s earned its popularity, with a reputation for reliability and safety, but it also hasn’t had as many competitors to contend with as its crossover siblings have. The few rivals it does have are all either new or recently refreshed, and now, the same can be said of the Camry. For 2025 it debuts a new look, new features, and a new hybrid powertrain, and it sets a new baseline standard for the high-selling midsize sedan. Verdict: Toyota knows its audience. The new 2025 Toyota Camry gives the people what they want, with up-to-date styling and tech, a strong value proposition helped along by excellent fuel economy, and, most importantly, no fatal flaws that might push a brand loyalist out of their comfort zone.

The 2024 Kia K5 GT-Line, with its striking Passion Red Tint Coat, turned heads and sparked curiosity among passers-by during its time on Southern California roads. Despite its introduction in 2021 as a replacement for the Optima, the K5 remained relatively unknown to many Americans. The GT-Line trim, positioned between the base LXS and the upscale EX, offered a sporty aesthetic without the full performance of the GT model. Priced between $25,390 and $31,790, plus a $1,125 destination charge, the K5 GT-Line provided a visually appealing package with a few compromises in cabin quality, featuring some inexpensive-looking plastics. However, its interior design, with textured metallic trim and a refined transmission shifter, compensated for these shortcomings.
The 2025 Toyota Camry showcased a refreshed design, particularly noticeable at the front with its "hammerhead front face" and LED lighting. The profile remained largely unchanged, but subtle tweaks like the extended rear window surround and hood gave it a more assertive look. The Camry offered a range of trims, each with distinct wheel designs and sporty touches for the SE and XSE models. The interior saw significant updates, including a new dash layout and improved materials, though some elements like the quilted Dinamica microfiber in the XLE trim raised concerns about long-term cleanliness. The Camry's seating options varied across trims, with the XSE offering perforated leather seats in bold color choices.

The 2024 Kia K5 offered a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GT model, however, boasted a more powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, coupled with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The K5 GT-Line, while visually sporty, prioritized fuel efficiency with an EPA rating of 31 mpg combined for FWD models. However, real-world testing revealed lower fuel economy, averaging 24.5 mpg over varied driving conditions. The GT-Line's suspension provided a comfortable yet controlled ride, though its brakes showed signs of fading during spirited driving.
The 2025 Toyota Camry introduced a hybrid-only lineup, featuring Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid system. The FWD models combined a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, delivering 225 horsepower, while AWD models added a third motor for a total of 232 horsepower. The electronic AWD system offered enhanced traction with minimal impact on fuel economy, with Toyota estimating 50 mpg combined for AWD models. The Camry's suspension tuning varied by trim, with the XLE focusing on comfort. The hybrid system seamlessly transitioned between gas and electric power, though engine noise was noticeable at higher speeds. The braking system felt natural, and the EV mode allowed for electric-only driving at low speeds.
The 2024 Kia K5 provided a comfortable and stylish interior, with SynTex artificial leather and cloth seat inserts in the GT-Line trim. The 10-way power driver's seat and manual front passenger seat height adjuster were notable features, with optional upgrades available in higher trims. Dual-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats were standard on most trims, while the panoramic sunroof added a touch of luxury. The K5 offered generous legroom, though headroom was limited with the sunroof. Storage areas were plentiful, though some had plastic linings that could produce noise. The trunk offered 16 cubic feet of cargo space, with convenient remote keyless entry and a Smart Trunk function.
The 2025 Toyota Camry's interior featured a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable front seats, and dual-zone climate control with rear-seat air vents. The panoramic moonroof was a new addition for hybrid models, available on higher trims. While Toyota had not published specific interior dimensions, the 2025 model was expected to offer similar space to the 2024 version, with competitive front-row legroom but slightly less headroom and back-seat legroom compared to rivals. The trunk space was estimated to remain around 15.1 cubic feet, slightly less than some competitors.
The 2024 Kia K5 came equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the LXS trim, while higher trims featured a 10.25-inch display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, with wireless connectivity in the LXS and wired in other trims. The larger display offered navigation, SiriusXM, and Kia Connect services, including remote start and vehicle recovery. A wireless charging pad and a 12-speaker Bose audio system were available in higher trims. The voice recognition system was less reliable than competitors, making Apple CarPlay or Android Auto preferable for voice commands.
The 2025 Toyota Camry featured an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a wireless charging pad and five USB ports. Higher trims offered a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a fully digital driver information display. A 10-inch head-up display and a nine-speaker JBL Premium Audio system were available for XLE and XSE trims. Subscription services included 4G Wi-Fi connectivity and Drive Connect, which added an Intelligent Assistant voice-recognition system. However, the voice recognition struggled during testing, though it performed better for some users.
The 2024 Kia K5 was equipped with Kia Drive Wise, a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance. Additional features included automatic high-beam headlights, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder. Upgrades offered cyclist detection, intersection braking, and adaptive cruise control with Highway Driving Assist (HDA). The HDA system provided a semi-autonomous driving experience, though it required driver intervention in certain situations. The K5 received high marks from the NHTSA but scored poorly in updated IIHS tests for moderate overlap frontal-impact and side-impact protection.
The 2025 Toyota Camry came standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which included blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The Premium Plus Package added features like front cross-traffic alert and traffic-jam assist. The lane-keeping assist system was effective without being intrusive. While the 2025 Camry had not yet been crash-tested, it was expected to perform well based on Toyota's reputation and the 2024 model's strong safety ratings, including a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS.
