2024 Honda Passport Reviews SummaryWhile many automakers resort to daring designs or flashy tech in their efforts to stand out amid a crowded midsize SUV market, Honda takes a different approach. The 2024 Honda Passport has been refreshed for this year, but few would notice. There are no big-screen TVs in this SUV, no futuristic materials or shocking styling choices. Instead, the Passport goes simple: a proven engine, easy-to-use technology, and enough (but not too much) capability to make it appealing in all weather. Verdict: The Honda Passport’s V6 engine makes impressive power, and the TrailSport trim level tested in this review adds extra capability courtesy of some all-terrain tires and an off-road-tuned suspension. Although its 2024 refresh doesn’t make the Honda Passport a segment leader in any specific category, it will still find plenty of buyers who want a practical, spacious, safe, and reliable crossover SUV.
2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Reviews SummaryThis two-row midsize SUV is designed for traveling almost anywhere at almost any time. It shares its platform with the rugged Toyota 4Runner SUV and Tacoma pickup truck, and is equipped with a turbocharged hybrid powertrain better at supplying power than efficiency. Additionally, it is more affordable than it has been in the past, but still commands a premium over its primary rivals. The 2025 Land Cruiser is almost unchanged following its 2024 redesign, which introduced the current 250-series model (known as the Land Cruiser Prado overseas) to the United States. Verdict: There is a lot to like about the Land Cruiser, especially if you don’t care about fuel economy. Our test vehicle averaged 15.7 mpg, falling well short of expectations. That thirst for fuel easily ranks as the worst thing about this SUV. Also, we recommend upgrading from the base 1958 trim level.

The 2024 Honda Passport retained much of its previous-generation design, despite Honda's recent updates to other models like the Civic and Accord. The Passport's exterior featured a more upright grille and squared-off corners, but it still echoed older Honda designs. The TrailSport trim, which we tested, was designed to be the most rugged, equipped with all-terrain tires and roof rails, but lacked true off-road enhancements like metal skid plates or recovery points. Inside, the Passport offered a simple and utilitarian design with physical controls and an 8-inch touchscreen. The TrailSport trim added black leather upholstery with orange stitching, maintaining a straightforward and functional interior.
In contrast, the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser offered a more modern and upscale appearance, especially in the higher trim. The base model, named the 1958, had a retro look with round headlights and basic equipment, while the Land Cruiser trim added more colors, larger screens, and critical off-roading features. Our test vehicle, equipped with the Premium Package, featured real leather, a sunroof, and a JBL sound system. The Land Cruiser's interior was utilitarian yet comfortable, with a high seating position for excellent visibility. However, the second-row seats lacked comfort, and the rear window design was less practical than expected.

The 2024 Honda Passport was powered by a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This engine, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, provided adequate acceleration and smooth gear shifts. The Passport's fuel economy was rated at 19 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined. The TrailSport trim featured wider tracks, off-road tires, and a tuned suspension for off-road driving. All Passports came with Honda's iVTM4 AWD system and a traction-management system with various settings. The Passport's towing capacity was 5,000 pounds, surpassing some competitors but falling short of others.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser featured Toyota's i-Force Max hybrid system, combining a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, producing 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. This setup, along with a full-time 4WD system, allowed for a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. The Land Cruiser included standard off-roading features like Downhill Assist Control and Crawl Control, with additional features in the higher trim. Despite an EPA rating of 23 mpg combined, real-world testing showed lower fuel efficiency. The Land Cruiser excelled in urban and off-road environments but struggled on twisty roads due to its suspension tuning.
The 2024 Honda Passport excelled in cargo space, offering 41.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 77.7 cubic feet with the seats folded. The interior was spacious, accommodating five adults comfortably, with ample storage and cupholders. The front center console was redesigned for more storage, though it reduced the airy feel of the cabin.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser provided 46.2 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 82.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The interior featured SofTex or real leather upholstery, with heated and ventilated front seats. However, the second-row seats lacked comfort, and the high load floor made loading heavy items challenging. The center console's cool box reduced storage space, and the rear window design was less practical.
The 2024 Honda Passport came with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad. The system's resolution and response speed were impressive, but the screen size felt small for the cabin. The TrailSport trim included a seven-speaker audio system, which was less impressive compared to competitors' offerings.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser featured two 12.3-inch displays with the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and connected service plans. The Premium Package added a JBL sound system, wireless charger, head-up display, and digital key technology. The voice recognition system performed well, providing accurate directions and responses.
The 2024 Honda Passport included Honda Sensing, offering forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Despite these features, the Passport received mixed crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser came with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, featuring forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Additional safety features included a road sign reader and Predictive Driving Assist. The Land Cruiser received a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA, with mixed results in specific tests.
