2024 Honda Passport Reviews Summary

While many automakers resort to daring designs or flashy tech in their efforts to stand out amid a crowded midsize SUV market, Honda takes a different approach. The 2024 Honda Passport has been refreshed for this year, but few would notice. There are no big-screen TVs in this SUV, no futuristic materials or shocking styling choices. Instead, the Passport goes simple: a proven engine, easy-to-use technology, and enough (but not too much) capability to make it appealing in all weather.

Verdict: The Honda Passport’s V6 engine makes impressive power, and the TrailSport trim level tested in this review adds extra capability courtesy of some all-terrain tires and an off-road-tuned suspension. Although its 2024 refresh doesn’t make the Honda Passport a segment leader in any specific category, it will still find plenty of buyers who want a practical, spacious, safe, and reliable crossover SUV.

2025 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

Redesigned in 2024, the 2025 Traverse gets a few additional changes. The base LS trim level disappears and the upscale High Country trim level is new. Chevrolet also makes the formerly optional Trailering Package standard equipment—so it’s easier to take advantage of the Traverse’s 5,000-pound towing capacity—and a new Sun and Wheel Package is available. Those updates broaden this Chevy’s appeal but do not address perceived quality issues related to the powertrain and interior materials.

Verdict: Chevy gets a lot of things right with the 2025 Traverse. However, there are head-scratchers related to quality and usability. From the unpleasant engine note and cheap interior plastics to the fussy wiper controls and aggravating third-row folding process, the Traverse regularly draws unfavorable attention to itself.

2024 Honda Passport

6/10

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

The 2024 Honda Passport retained much of its previous-generation design, despite Honda's recent updates to other models like the Civic and Accord. The Passport's exterior featured a more upright grille and squared-off corners, but it largely maintained its familiar look. The TrailSport trim, which we tested, was designed to be the most rugged, equipped with all-terrain tires and roof rails. However, its rugged appearance was more aesthetic than functional, with plastic skid plates and no recovery points. Inside, the Passport offered a simple and utilitarian design with physical controls and an 8-inch touchscreen. The TrailSport trim added black leather upholstery with orange stitching, but the interior remained straightforward and practical.

In contrast, the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse showcased a more modern and stylish design, both inside and out. Chevrolet's SUVs, including the Traverse, were praised for their appealing exterior styling and digital instrumentation. However, the interior materials, such as hard plastic and artificial leather, fell short of expectations for a vehicle in its price range. The Traverse offered trims like the LT, Z71, High Country, and RS, with prices ranging from $41,095 to $55,495. Our test vehicle, the Z71, featured off-road enhancements like a panoramic sunroof and a Driver Confidence Package, with a total MSRP of $55,900.

Performance

2024 Honda Passport

7/10

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

6/10

The 2024 Honda Passport was equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This engine, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, provided smooth acceleration and unobtrusive shifting. The Passport's torque-vectoring iVTM4 all-wheel-drive system and traction-management settings added value, especially for off-road enthusiasts. However, the Passport's fuel economy was rated at 19 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined, which was slightly lower than some competitors. The TrailSport trim featured wider tracks, 18-inch wheels, and off-road-tuned suspension, enhancing its off-road capabilities.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse, on the other hand, featured a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. This engine provided ample power, especially in all-wheel-drive mode, where it delivered rapid and controlled acceleration. The Z71 trim, designed for off-road adventures, offered 7.7 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and a Twin Clutch AWD system. The Traverse's driving modes included Tow/Haul, Normal, and Sport, but it felt large and less sporty on narrow roads. The Z71's tires and suspension provided a smoother ride on rough pavement, and the vehicle achieved an EPA-rated 21 mpg in combined driving.

Form and function

2024 Honda Passport

10/10

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

The 2024 Honda Passport excelled in cargo space, offering 41.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats and expanding to 77.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The Passport's interior was spacious, accommodating five adults comfortably, with ample cupholders and storage options. The front center console was redesigned for 2024, providing more storage space. While rear-seat legroom was slightly tighter than some competitors, it remained competitive within the segment.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse boasted impressive interior volume, particularly in terms of width. It offered eight-passenger seating with a second-row bench seat, or captain's chairs for added comfort. The third-row seats provided adequate leg support, but the rear windows limited visibility. The Traverse offered 22.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 97.6 cubic feet with the second row folded. However, folding the third row required adjusting the second-row seats, which could be inconvenient.

Technology

2024 Honda Passport

6/10

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

10/10

The 2024 Honda Passport featured an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which felt small compared to competitors. It included standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and a wireless charging pad. However, the navigation system's turn-by-turn directions were intrusive, and the seven-speaker audio system lacked depth. Audiophiles might prefer other models with more advanced sound systems.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse impressed with its standard 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, featuring Google Built-in, Google Maps, and Google Assistant. It also offered wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The large touchscreen provided a user-friendly interface, and the digital instrumentation panel offered customizable views. Optional features included a digital rearview mirror and a high-definition surround-view camera system, enhancing convenience and safety.

The 2024 Honda Passport came equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features under the "Honda Sensing" umbrella, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. However, the Passport received mixed crash test ratings, with an "Acceptable" rating from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse offered an extensive list of standard safety features, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and more. The Enhanced Driving Package added Super Cruise, a hands-free driving aid, and remote-parking technology. The Traverse received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and a "Top Safety Pick" award from the IIHS.
