2024 Honda Civic Reviews Summary

Unchanged since it last received a redesign for the 2022 model year, the 11th generation 2024 Civic Si takes everything that is good about the standard Civic Sedan and amplifies it for people who love the journey as much as the destination. It has a high-output turbocharged engine, comes only with a manual transmission and front-wheel drive, and boasts dynamic improvements that make it more rewarding to drive. In addition, because you must know how to use a clutch pedal to operate this car, owning one is like joining an exclusive club limiting membership to legitimate car enthusiasts.

2025 Honda Civic Reviews Summary

As it previously did for the Accord and the CR-V, Honda has now divided the Civic lineup by powertrain. This review focuses on the gas-only Civic, offered in LX and Sport trims or as the Civic Si, which we flew to Nashville to test drive. The Civic Hybrid (offered in Sport or Sport Touring trims) and the Honda Civic Type R are covered as separate models.

Verdict: We absolutely recommend the 2025 Honda Civic Si for driving enthusiasts. For those new to the road and anyone looking for an affordable sedan or hatchback, the base Civic is a great choice.

2024 Honda Civic

9/10

2025 Honda Civic

7/10

The 2024 Honda Civic Si was a testament to the enduring appeal of compact, quick, and fun cars. It carried forward the legacy of the sporty 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI, emphasizing that driving joy wasn't solely about power. As a sport-injected version of the Civic sedan, the 2024 model offered a balance of performance and subtle styling, with features like LED headlights, a gloss-black lip spoiler, and 18-inch matte-black wheels. Inside, it boasted red seat and door panel inserts, a metal mesh trim, and a high-quality cabin with digital instrumentation and a touchscreen infotainment system. Priced at $30,650 with destination charges, it remained an affordable option for enthusiasts.

In contrast, the 2025 Honda Civic Si introduced subtle exterior updates, including a widened lower grille and a new honeycomb grille texture, enhancing its sporty appearance. Standard LED headlights and smoked tail lights added to its aggressive look. The color palette saw changes, with new options like Solar Silver Metallic and Urban Gray Pearl. The 2025 model featured a new dedicated wheel design and retained the sporty red accents inside. However, the rear cabin lacked the same attention to detail, creating a distinct difference between the front and back. Despite these changes, the 2025 Civic Si maintained its sporty character, albeit with some compromises in interior cohesion.

Performance

2024 Honda Civic

7/10

2025 Honda Civic

8/10

The 2024 Honda Civic Si was equipped with a high-output turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. It featured a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission with a downshift rev-matching feature, which could be turned off for those who preferred manual heel-and-toe shifting. The drivetrain included a single-mass lightweight flywheel and a helical limited-slip differential, enhancing cornering performance. Larger brakes, thicker suspension stabilizer bars, and an Si-only dual-pinion variable-ratio steering system were standard. The Civic Si offered a thrilling driving experience, especially on twisty roads like Mulholland Highway, with excellent steering and grip from the Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. However, a braking system issue during hot testing weather raised concerns about its reliability.

The 2025 Honda Civic Si retained the turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, producing 200 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 192 lb-ft of torque between 1,800 and 5,000 rpm. The six-speed manual transmission offered short throws and a light clutch, providing a comfortable yet responsive ride. The Civic Si featured three dynamic drive modes, but the Sport mode's throttle sensitivity was deemed unnecessary. A new Formula One-inspired shift indicator on the digital driver-information display added a modern touch. While the Civic Si was user-friendly, it lacked some features like a traditional manual e-brake and gear indication on the dash, which might deter new manual drivers. Overall, it remained a solid choice for driving enthusiasts.

Form and function

2024 Honda Civic

2025 Honda Civic

8/10

The 2024 Honda Civic Si balanced practicality and performance, with sport-bolstered front seats and a manual transmission. The interior featured cloth-wrapped seats with a manual driver’s seat height adjuster, ensuring a proper driving position. However, entering and exiting the car required effort due to its low stance. The Civic Si lacked heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and rear-seat air conditioning vents, but it offered a roomy back seat with generous legroom. Cargo space was commendable at 14.4 cubic feet, with a 60/40-split folding back seat for longer items.

In the 2025 Honda Civic Si, front-seat headroom was reduced to 37.6 inches due to the standard power moonroof. Rear passengers enjoyed 37.1 inches of headroom and 37.4 inches of legroom. The Si offered 14.1 cubic feet of cargo volume, slightly less than other Civic Sedans. Heated front seats were standard, enhancing comfort. While the Civic Si's interior focused on sportiness, it lacked leather seats, emphasizing its economy car roots. The front half of the cabin was well-decorated, but the rear felt like an afterthought.

Technology

2025 Honda Civic

7/10

The 2024 Honda Civic Si featured an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Bose Centerpoint premium audio system. The system was user-friendly, with physical controls for volume and tuning. The Civic Si's interior technology was simple yet satisfying, providing a seamless experience for drivers.

In 2025, the Civic Si received a tech upgrade with a 9-inch touchscreen, Google Built-In connectivity, and a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system. The 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster included F1-inspired shift lights and navigation instructions from Google Maps. While lower trims received USB-C ports, the Civic Si stood out with its advanced features, making it a top choice for tech-savvy drivers.

Safety

2025 Honda Civic

8/10

The 2024 Honda Civic Si came with the Honda Sensing suite, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. However, some features, like lane-keeping assist, were found to be intrusive. The Civic Si earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, with a 4-star rating for front passenger protection in frontal-impact collisions.

For 2025, Honda Sensing was enhanced with improved collision-mitigation braking and adaptive cruise control. The Civic Si earned Top Safety Pick+ awards from the IIHS and five-star overall ratings from the NHTSA, surpassing the 2024 model's safety performance. The updated safety features and increased frame rigidity contributed to its improved ratings.
