2024 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

Verdict: The GV70 offers style, impressive tech, and a well-executed electric variant. Launched as a 2022 model and thus still very fresh, the Genesis GV70 is the Korean luxury brand’s answer to the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Lexus NX, Volvo XC60, and other small luxury crossover SUVs. The GV70 checks most of the boxes needed to compete in this segment while offering something the competition doesn’t: an all-electric powertrain option.

2025 Hyundai Palisade Reviews Summary

The Palisade is the company’s largest SUV, debuting in 2020 as a replacement for the Hyundai Santa Fe XL. Since then, the automaker has steadily improved the SUV’s styling, technology, and packaging, and that’s also true of the 2025 Palisade. This year, the SEL Premium is a trim level instead of a trim package, and the XRT adds some standard equipment. A redesigned 2026 Palisade is on the way and will undoubtedly improve on this outgoing version.

Verdict: Though the 2025 Palisade marks the last year for the current-generation model, you should still consider one, especially if the deal is too good to pass up. This Hyundai has aged remarkably well and remains more appealing than many of its rivals in the midsize three-row SUV arena.

Look and feel

2024 Genesis GV70

9/10

2025 Hyundai Palisade

9/10

The 2024 Genesis GV70 was a standout in the Genesis lineup, offering a sleek design that balanced SUV presence with luxury-car style. It featured signature Genesis styling elements like split headlights and a large shield-like grille, but with a sleeker profile compared to its larger sibling, the GV80. The GV70's design included unique details such as a hatchback-like rear window profile, large round exhaust outlets on the Sport Prestige trim, and distinctive 21-inch wheels. Its styling was more refined than competitors like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3, which lacked finesse, and it avoided the quirkiness of the smaller GV60. The Electrified GV70 maintained the same styling as the gasoline model, with a shiny grille housing the charge port for easy access at charging stations. Inside, the GV70 boasted a distinctive interior with traditional luxury touches like quilted Nappa leather and a panoramic sunroof, complemented by unique design elements such as an elliptical pod for climate controls and a rotary infotainment controller.

The 2025 Hyundai Palisade distinguished itself with bold, unmistakable design, especially after the 2023 refresh that gave it a more angular and technical look. The Palisade's exterior featured balanced forms and tasteful body sculpting, creating an upscale appearance that belied its sticker price. Inside, even the base SE trim offered a clean, modern look, while higher trims like the Calligraphy boasted premium leather, artificial suede, and metal speaker grilles. The Palisade was loaded with thoughtful details, including USB charging ports in the front seatbacks, second-row smartphone storage pockets, and drink holders accessible to children. It was available in seven trim levels, with prices ranging from $37,200 to $54,500, excluding destination charges. The Calligraphy trim, with AWD and additional features, brought the MSRP to $55,205.

Performance

2024 Genesis GV70

7/10

2025 Hyundai Palisade

8/10

The 2024 Genesis GV70 offered two gasoline powertrain options: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 375 hp and 391 lb-ft. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD. The Electrified GV70 featured front and rear electric motors delivering a combined 429 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, with a "Boost Mode" providing 483 hp for short bursts. While the GV70 offered vigorous straight-line acceleration, its chassis tuning didn't match the sportiness of rivals like the Acura RDX or BMW X3. The ride quality was reasonably comfortable but tended to crash over bumps. The Electrified GV70 maintained similar driving dynamics despite its additional weight, and it offered adjustable regenerative braking for a customizable driving experience.

The 2025 Hyundai Palisade was powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine producing 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Palisade's powertrain was smooth and refined, offering satisfying performance in a segment where many rivals opted for turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The Palisade's ride was firm at lower speeds but softened at higher speeds, and it handled speed humps impressively. The Smart driving mode adjusted calibration automatically, while the automatic hold brake function required a firm push on the accelerator. The Palisade's fuel efficiency was lower than the EPA estimate, but the refined V6 made up for it. The steering and suspension provided a reasonable feel for the road, and the brakes were well-calibrated.

Form and function

2024 Genesis GV70

8/10

2025 Hyundai Palisade

10/10

The 2024 Genesis GV70 offered competitive interior space, with slightly less headroom than rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3, but more front-seat legroom than the BMW and Mercedes. Its cargo space of 28.9 cubic feet with rear seats up was better than the Mercedes but less than the Audi. The Electrified GV70 had minimal impact on interior space, with slight reductions in headroom and legroom. The stylish interior design limited small-item storage, but features like automatic side bolsters in Sport mode added to the driving experience.

The 2025 Hyundai Palisade provided three rows of seats, with our test vehicle featuring a seven-passenger arrangement with second-row captain's chairs. The Calligraphy trim offered Nappa leather, power-adjustable front seats, and a massaging driver's seat. The second-row seats were heated and ventilated, with good thigh support and legroom. The third-row seat was also heated, with USB-C ports and drink holders. The Palisade's storage space was generous, with adjustable front cupholders and dedicated smartphone storage. The Smart Liftgate provided hands-free access to the cargo area, which offered 18 cubic feet behind the third row and up to 86.4 cubic feet with seats folded.

Technology

2024 Genesis GV70

9/10

2025 Hyundai Palisade

9/10

The 2024 Genesis GV70 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Higher trims offered a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 3D effect and a 12-inch head-up display. The infotainment system was intuitive, with a rotary controller for easy operation. Genesis included a fingerprint scanner for driver profiles and a digital key for smartphone access.

The 2025 Hyundai Palisade's technology was functional, with a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It required a cable for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but offered features like two-device Bluetooth support, wireless charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The voice recognition system performed well, and the Harman Kardon audio system provided commendable sound. The Palisade also featured a digital rearview mirror and a head-up display with blind spot warnings.

Safety

2025 Hyundai Palisade

9/10

The 2024 Genesis GV70 received the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award for both gasoline and Electrified models. The NHTSA gave the gasoline model a five-star overall safety rating for 2023, with four-star frontal and rollover ratings for 2024. Standard safety features included lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, and Highway Driving Assist. The Highway Driving Assist 2 system added automated lane-change capability and blind-spot monitoring.

The 2025 Hyundai Palisade came with standard safety features under the Hyundai SmartSense umbrella, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Highway Driving Assist. Higher trims added features like a surround-view camera, Blind Spot View Monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist. The Palisade earned a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS through 2024, but a Poor rating in a new frontal-impact test prevented the accolade in 2025. The NHTSA gave it five-star frontal impact and four-star rollover ratings.
