2024 GMC Canyon Reviews Summary

Taller and wider than most midsize pickup trucks like the Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma, the GMC Canyon is designed to go farther and work harder than the rest of its class. GMC redesigned the Canyon for 2023, and a new AEV package arrives for the 2024 model year. With this off-road-specific kit, the rugged Canyon AT4X grows yet another inch taller and adds 35-inch tires, steel skid plates, and a full-size spare tire.

Verdict: You don’t need to test drive an AT4X AEV trim to walk away impressed with the 2024 Canyon. Although pricey, this truck delivers a more impressive array of standard equipment than any other vehicle in its class, and its high-output turbocharged four-cylinder engine provides more than enough firepower for towing, hauling, and off-road driving.

2025 Ford F-150 Reviews Summary

Available in three cab styles with three bed lengths and eight trim levels, there is a 2025 F-150 for almost any budget or requirement. Six powertrains are also on the menu, and you can opt for an electric version called the F-150 Lightning. For the 2025 model year, Ford has added a slew of new standard and optional driver-assistance systems to the F-150, and a plush new Platinum Plus option package offers extra decadence for luxury-truck buyers.

Verdict: The depth and breadth of the 2025 Ford F-150 lineup are downright staggering. Fortunately for Ford, each version of this truck boasts serious substance, and while some rivals may be more appealing in one way or another, considered as a whole, the F-150 is the best light-duty pickup truck your money can buy.

2024 GMC Canyon

8/10

2025 Ford F-150

8/10

The 2024 GMC Canyon was a standout in the midsize truck segment, boasting dimensions that made it one of the tallest in its class. At 213.2 inches long and 74.9 inches wide, it was comparable to competitors like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger. However, its height of 79.8 inches set it apart, towering over rivals and nearly matching the height of basketball star LeBron James. This impressive stature was due to its wider track and substantial ground clearance, which started at 9.6 inches and could reach up to 12.2 inches with the AEV package. The Canyon was available in four trims, each catering to different needs, from the work-focused Elevation to the luxury-oriented Denali and the off-road-ready AT4 and AT4X.

In contrast, the 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor SuperCrew was a full-size truck that combined rugged off-road capabilities with a touch of luxury. It featured a robust 5.0-liter V8 engine and came with a base price of $66,810, which could rise to $82,240 with options. The Tremor was distinguished by its unique design elements, including Active Orange accents and exclusive wheels. Its Space White Metallic paint added a sophisticated touch, while the interior offered a blend of industrial design and comfort, with orange accents and optional leather upholstery. The F-150 Tremor was equipped with a range of off-road features, making it a formidable choice for adventurous drivers.

Performance

2024 GMC Canyon

8/10

2025 Ford F-150

7/10

The 2024 GMC Canyon was powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering an impressive 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. This engine was standard across all trims, providing a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds and a payload of 1,670 pounds. The Canyon's eight-speed automatic transmission complemented the engine well, offering a smooth driving experience. Despite its off-road capabilities, the Canyon maintained a comfortable ride on paved roads, thanks to its Multimatic spool-valve dampers. However, its fuel economy was less impressive, with the AT4X AEV model achieving only 16 mpg.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor, on the other hand, featured a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. It offered a towing capacity of 9,900 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,725 pounds. The Tremor's 10-speed automatic transmission provided ample power for various driving conditions, from highway cruising to off-road trails. The truck's off-road capabilities were enhanced by its long-travel suspension, skid plates, and Trail Control system. While the V8 engine delivered a satisfying sound, the optional EcoBoost V6 offered better fuel efficiency. The Tremor's fuel economy was rated at 17 mpg, with real-world testing showing an average of 15.7 mpg.

Form and function

2024 GMC Canyon

6/10

2025 Ford F-150

7/10

The 2024 GMC Canyon excelled in towing capacity, but its interior space was less accommodating. The crew cab configuration offered limited rear-seat legroom, making it uncomfortable for adults on long journeys. The 5.2-foot bed provided less cargo capacity compared to competitors, and the AEV package's spare tire further reduced usable space. The Canyon's height and width posed challenges in urban environments, and the lack of a digital rearview mirror was a notable omission.

In contrast, the 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor offered a spacious and comfortable interior, with oversized, power-adjustable front seats and a roomy rear bench. The truck's interior was equipped with heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof. Storage space was abundant, with features like the Mobile Office package and Pro Access tailgate enhancing functionality. The Tremor's size could be a challenge in tight spaces, but its towing and hauling capabilities were impressive.

Technology

The 2024 GMC Canyon featured an 11.3-inch touchscreen display with Google Built-in, offering seamless access to Google Maps and Google Assistant. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were also included. However, the infotainment system's headlight controls were embedded in the software, requiring drivers to take their eyes off the road. Higher trims benefited from a head-up display and off-road performance display pages.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor came with dual 12-inch displays, offering excellent usability despite their smaller size compared to some competitors. The infotainment system was complemented by a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The truck also featured a head-up display, off-road cameras, and trailering assistance features, enhancing its technological appeal.

Safety

The 2024 GMC Canyon received a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA, with five stars for side-impact tests. Standard safety features included automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a rear-seat reminder system. However, advanced driver assist systems were often optional on lower trims, requiring additional costs.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor boasted an impressive array of safety features, including new oncoming-traffic detection, evasive steering assist, and predictive speed assist. The BlueCruise hands-free driving technology was a standout feature, offering reliable performance in most situations. The F-150 earned high marks in crash tests, with a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA and strong performance in IIHS evaluations.
