2024 Chevrolet Trax Reviews Summary

The Trax was launched for the 2015 model year as a no-frills subcompact crossover, designed to serve as basic transportation at an affordable cost. However, the Trax moldered in showrooms without any significant updates until the 2022 model year—when it was discontinued altogether.

But now the Trax is back in totally revamped, second-generation form. It's as big of a reimagining as you'll likely ever see in a car like this. The new Trax is bigger than before, more effort has been put into its styling, and Chevy has added the tech features that have become the norm since the original Trax was launched. Still the entry-level model in Chevy's lineup, the Trax sits below the Chevy Trailblazer, and takes aim at the Hyundai Venue and Nissan Kicks, but it was also designed to retain owners of discontinued small cars like the Chevy Cruze, Sonic, and Spark, bridging the gap between car and crossover.

The redesigned 2024 Trax launches in LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ trim levels. We sampled 2RS and Activ models on roads around Asheville, North Carolina.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Reviews Summary

You know what you’re getting with the Jeep Wrangler: Iconic looks and legendary off-road ability but an overall package somewhat out of step with the times. Even so, it’s a model that’s continually evolving and Jeep does its best to appeal to the broadest cross-section of customers possible. You can get a Wrangler with two-door or four-door body styles, and your choice between three engines and seven trim levels. This year, all 2025 Wrangler models have standard power windows and door locks, the V6/automatic drivetrain returns to the lineup, while new colors include ’41 (drab green), Mojito (bright green), and Joose (orange).

Verdict: Rough, raw, and unrefined, the 2025 Wrangler is made for adventure and getting dirty. The top comes off. The doors come off. There are drain holes in the floor so that you can hose it out. This Jeep can be unpleasant to drive daily, yet we love it just the same.

2024 Chevrolet Trax

9/10

2025 Jeep Wrangler

6/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax underwent a significant transformation, shedding its previous image to emerge as a more stylish and modern vehicle. The design team embraced a "longer, lower, wider" philosophy, resulting in a vehicle that was 11 inches longer, four inches lower, and two inches wider than its predecessor. This redesign incorporated elements from the midsize Chevy Blazer, such as a prominent grille and distinctive rear styling, giving the Trax a commanding presence. The base Trax LS featured 17-inch steel wheels, while higher trims offered 18-inch and 19-inch aluminum options. The interior, though primarily plastic, included thoughtful design features like a freestanding touchscreen and large air vents, enhancing its appeal.

In contrast, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler Sport S, with its black-on-black color scheme, was less suited for the tropical climate of Hawaii. Despite this, the Wrangler's design remained true to its rugged roots, offering a range of trims from Sport to the powerful Rubicon 392. The Sport S model, priced at nearly $50,000, featured a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a few options like a black hardtop and Convenience Group. The Wrangler's interior emphasized functionality over luxury, with a focus on durability and practicality. Its iconic design, rooted in American freedom and off-road capability, continued to attract enthusiasts despite its lack of sophistication compared to modern vehicles.

Performance

2024 Chevrolet Trax

8/10

2025 Jeep Wrangler

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax featured a new 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, replacing the previous 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This engine produced 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, slightly less than its predecessor. Despite the reduction in power, the Trax accelerated to 60 mph about a second faster than before, thanks to its flat torque curve and minimal turbo lag. The six-speed automatic transmission carried over, but the Trax was now available only with front-wheel drive. Its handling was tuned to be more car-like, offering a planted feel and nimble handling, although it still exhibited some body roll. The Trax's refinement exceeded expectations, with active noise cancellation and a ride quality that balanced handling and comfort.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler offered a choice between a 3.6-liter V6 engine with a six-speed manual transmission and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder engine delivered 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, offering a lively performance, especially at higher elevations. The Wrangler's fuel efficiency was slightly better with the turbocharged engine, achieving an EPA rating of 21 mpg in combined driving. The Wrangler's off-road capabilities were well-suited to Hawaii's terrain, with standard four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, and generous approach and departure angles. However, its ride was rough, and the steering felt disconnected, especially at higher speeds.

Form and function

2024 Chevrolet Trax

8/10

2025 Jeep Wrangler

4/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax, while larger overall, offered mixed results in terms of interior space. It provided three more inches of rear-seat legroom and a slight increase in front-seat legroom, but headroom decreased in the second row. The Trax's passenger space was comparable to rivals like the Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Venue, with the Trax offering the most rear-seat legroom. The driving position was more car-like, with low window sills for excellent visibility. Cargo space increased by about 12%, offering 25.6 cubic feet with the rear seats in place and 54.1 cubic feet with them folded.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler posed challenges for entry and exit due to its high ground clearance and narrow door openings. The front seats were comfortable, with cloth upholstery and optional heated features. Rear-seat legroom was adequate, but taller passengers needed to be cautious of plastic hooks on the front seatbacks. Storage space was limited, with small items often ending up in cupholders. Cargo access was cumbersome, requiring the tailgate and rear window to be opened separately. The Wrangler offered 31.7 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 72.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

Technology

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax saw significant upgrades in infotainment technology. It featured an 8-inch touchscreen on LS and 1RS trims, while higher trims received an 11-inch touchscreen and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with wireless phone charging, were available for the first time. The infotainment system was user-friendly, with crisp graphics and a logical menu layout. The Trax also offered multiple USB ports for front and rear passengers, enhancing connectivity options.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler boasted the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Sport S trim included a standard eight-speaker stereo, with an optional nine-speaker Alpine premium sound system. The Wrangler offered Jeep Connect services, including a Wi-Fi hotspot and off-road navigation capabilities. The touchscreen remained bright and easy to use, even with the roof panels removed. The Convenience Group pack added a 7-inch digital display and other features like passive entry and remote engine starting.

Safety

2025 Jeep Wrangler

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax's crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA were unavailable at the time of publication. However, it offered a range of standard driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and forward collision warning. Optional features included adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Trax also featured the Teen Driver system, which monitored driving behavior and provided a "report card" to parents.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler introduced side curtain airbags as standard equipment for front and rear seats. Advanced driver assistance systems were optional, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert available on most trims. Forward collision warning with automatic braking was limited to the Sahara trim. The Wrangler received a four-star frontal-impact rating and a three-star rollover resistance rating from the NHTSA. The IIHS awarded it a Good rating for side-impact protection but a Marginal rating in the small overlap frontal-impact test.
