2024 Chevrolet Trax Reviews Summary

The Trax was launched for the 2015 model year as a no-frills subcompact crossover, designed to serve as basic transportation at an affordable cost. However, the Trax moldered in showrooms without any significant updates until the 2022 model year—when it was discontinued altogether.

But now the Trax is back in totally revamped, second-generation form. It's as big of a reimagining as you'll likely ever see in a car like this. The new Trax is bigger than before, more effort has been put into its styling, and Chevy has added the tech features that have become the norm since the original Trax was launched. Still the entry-level model in Chevy's lineup, the Trax sits below the Chevy Trailblazer, and takes aim at the Hyundai Venue and Nissan Kicks, but it was also designed to retain owners of discontinued small cars like the Chevy Cruze, Sonic, and Spark, bridging the gap between car and crossover.

The redesigned 2024 Trax launches in LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ trim levels. We sampled 2RS and Activ models on roads around Asheville, North Carolina.

2024 Lexus TX Reviews Summary

Verdict: Lexus has sold three-row SUVs in the past. But they were either originally engineered for serious off-roading (GX), too expensive (LX), or too cramped for third-row passengers (RX L). The 2024 Lexus TX is none of these things, making it perfect for the typical three-row luxury SUV buyer who spends almost all their time on paved roads. Overall, based on our week testing a TX 350 Luxury model, this new Lexus SUV gets most things right.

2024 Chevrolet Trax

9/10

2024 Lexus TX

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax underwent a significant transformation, shedding its previous image for a more modern and stylish design. It was longer, lower, and wider, drawing inspiration from the midsize Chevy Blazer. The Trax featured a bold grille, distinctive body lines, and a more commanding presence compared to its predecessor. Base models came with 17-inch steel wheels, while higher trims offered 18-inch and 19-inch aluminum options. The interior, though entry-level, had a sleek design with a freestanding touchscreen and large air vents, offering a fresh look.

In contrast, the 2024 Lexus TX, based on the Toyota Grand Highlander, presented a more upscale appearance. It featured 22-inch wheels and a toned-down design compared to other Lexus models, appealing to those who preferred a conservative style. The TX came in various trims, with the Luxury model offering premium features like ambient lighting and semi-aniline leather upholstery. Despite its dark interior, the TX maintained a luxurious feel, suitable for a vehicle bearing the Lexus badge.

Performance

2024 Lexus TX

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax was equipped with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Despite a decrease in power from the previous model, it offered a quicker acceleration to 60 mph. The engine's torque curve provided strong response, and turbo lag was minimal. The Trax was front-wheel drive only, with a six-speed automatic transmission. Its handling was more car-like, offering a planted feel and nimble qualities, though it still exhibited some body roll.

The 2024 Lexus TX 350 featured a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. It accelerated to 60 mph in about eight seconds, providing adequate performance. The TX 350's fuel economy was rated at 23 mpg combined, with AWD available for an additional cost. The ride was comfortable, with commendable body motion control and quiet highway driving. However, the brake pedal felt soft, though it was easy to modulate.

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax offered increased rear-seat legroom but had reduced headroom and shoulder room. It provided a car-like driving position with excellent visibility. Cargo space increased to 25.6 cubic feet with seats up and 54.1 cubic feet with seats down, surpassing some competitors.

The 2024 Lexus TX addressed previous shortcomings in Lexus's three-row SUVs. It offered comfortable seating with premium materials, though the front seats lacked a massage function. The third-row seat was habitable for adults, and cargo space was generous, with 20.2 cubic feet behind the third row and up to 97 cubic feet with seats folded. Storage options were plentiful, though some lacked lining.

The digital instrument cluster was modern and easy to read, though some controls favored the driver.

The 2024 Lexus TX came with an optional Technology Package, offering a 12.3-inch digital panel, head-up display, and more. However, the unmarked steering wheel controls were frustrating.
