2024 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has gone from being something of a wallflower to becoming one of the more stand-out choices among midsize SUVs with three rows of seating. That’s because Chevrolet’s design and engineering team did its homework when it came time to update this third generation of the Traverse, a model that has featured in the brand’s lineup since its introduction back for the 2009 model year.

The 2024 Chevy Traverse is taller, wider, and longer than the outgoing variant. It’s also much more memorable to look at; following current SUV trends, Chevrolet gave the Traverse a more rugged appearance that borrows from both the full-size Tahoe SUV and Sierra pickup truck. Styling is always subjective, but in this instance, we think it’s fair to say Chevy got things right.

Verdict: More important than any additional visual bravado is that the 2024 Traverse has been improved in countless other ways. It has more standard driver aids, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There is more space for passengers, particularly those seated in the third row. And the infotainment system gets a much larger touchscreen.

2025 Nissan Pathfinder Reviews Summary

Despite a rich history and lengthy pedigree, the Nissan Pathfinder has struggled to compete against the most popular three-row crossover SUVs. That’s perplexing, as the Pathfinder offers excellent cargo capacity, comfortable seating, and a modern design, and it does it all at a competitive price. Slight updates for the 2025 model year are unlikely to vault the Pathfinder ahead of competitors like the Honda Pilot or Kia Telluride, but they nonetheless help make this attractive SUV even more appealing..

Verdict: The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder is missing the single killer app to put it clear ahead of competitors. Instead, it offers a beautifully well-rounded package, with no single area likely to let shoppers down, even if there’s no single area likely to wow them, either. An ideal workhorse for both adventurous and budget-friendly families, the 2025 Nissan Pathfinder delivers a solid, reliable experience across all aspects of ownership.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse

2025 Nissan Pathfinder

8/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was available in four trims: LS, LT, Z71, and RS, with the Z71 being a new addition aimed at those interested in moderate off-roading. During test drives near Atlanta, it was clear that the Z71 was not designed for extreme off-road adventures like the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco but was capable of handling rugged terrain. The Traverse's pricing was competitive, starting at $38,995 for the LS and reaching $55,595 for the RS, which came with nearly every available feature. The Z71 model, priced at $47,795, featured 18-inch alloy wheels and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat paint, with a Jet Black interior accented by "Torch Red" highlights. While synthetic leather seating was optional, the standard cloth seats were comfortable and breathable.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder, tested near Mount Rainier National Park, excelled in snowy conditions thanks to its Rock Creek trim, which included 3-Peak Mud-and-Snow-rated tires and standard all-wheel drive. The Pathfinder, redesigned for 2022, offered trims from S to Platinum, with the Rock Creek featuring a distinctive V-Motion grille and stacked LED lighting. A metal roof rack and exposed trailer hitch highlighted its adventurous nature, though it lacked additional ground clearance and protective skid plates. Inside, the Rock Creek trim featured leatherette-and-cloth upholstery with bright orange logos, while higher trims offered more luxurious seating options. Despite some mixed reactions to the interior stitching, the Pathfinder's seats were comfortable, and the material quality was solid.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse replaced its previous 310-horsepower V6 with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. This new engine offered 18 more horsepower and 50 more lb-ft of torque than the V6. All-wheel drive was optional, with the Z71 trim featuring a more advanced system. The Traverse provided acceptable acceleration and passing power, with a pleasant exhaust growl. The steering was adequate, and the ride was smooth, even with the Z71's all-terrain tires and extra ground clearance. The brakes were progressive, and the stop-and-start feature was seamless. Fuel economy estimates ranged from 18 mpg city to 26 highway for the FWD Limited trim.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder featured a 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque in most trims, while the Rock Creek trim offered 295 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission replaced the previous CVT, providing smooth shifts. The Rock Creek and Platinum trims had a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds, while other trims required an optional package for this capability. The Pathfinder's soft suspension provided a comfortable ride but lacked composure on twisty roads. Fuel economy for the Rock Creek was 20 mpg city, 23 highway, and 21 combined, with other 4WD trims offering slightly better efficiency. The Pathfinder included seven drive modes and hill-descent control, with snow mode proving effective in snowy conditions.

Form and function

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse offered seating for eight in the base LS model, with captain's chairs standard in the Z71 and RS trims. The Smart Slide second-row seats were easy to use, and a power-folding third row was available. Cargo volume was 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 96 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The Traverse featured numerous storage options, including a hidden storage area under the center console. Visibility was generally good, though the third row felt slightly enclosed. The Z71 model had a power-operated driver's seat, but the front passenger seat was manually adjustable.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder, though smaller than some competitors, provided ample interior space. During a ski trip with four adults, it accommodated skis, luggage, and groceries comfortably. Cargo space was 16.6 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 80.5 cubic feet with both rows folded. The Pathfinder featured three-zone climate control and comfortable seats, with 10-way power adjustment for the Rock Creek's driver's seat. The Rock Creek trim included captain's chairs and a removable center console, while the EZ Flex Seating System allowed easy access to the third row without removing car seats.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse featured a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, replacing the previous 8-inch screen. The system was responsive, with simple menus and an 11-inch digital instrument display. Google-based software provided intuitive voice commands, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A wireless charging pad was included, along with physical controls for volume and HVAC functions. The Traverse also offered Super Cruise, a hands-free driving aid, which expanded its functionality to single-lane roads.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder's infotainment system lagged behind competitors, with an 8-inch screen in lower trims and a 9-inch screen in higher trims. The software was functional but dated, with physical buttons and rotary knobs for ease of use. The Pathfinder supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with wireless projection available only on the 9-inch screen for Apple devices. A 6-speaker stereo was standard, with a 13-speaker Bose system available on higher trims. Navigation was limited to the SL and Platinum trims, and a head-up display was exclusive to the Platinum.

A surround-view parking camera and rear pedestrian alert were also included.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder received a Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. It featured a robust array of driver assistance systems, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. Adaptive cruise control and ProPilot Assist were standard on most trims, with traffic sign recognition available on higher trims.
