2024 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has gone from being something of a wallflower to becoming one of the more stand-out choices among midsize SUVs with three rows of seating. That’s because Chevrolet’s design and engineering team did its homework when it came time to update this third generation of the Traverse, a model that has featured in the brand’s lineup since its introduction back for the 2009 model year.

The 2024 Chevy Traverse is taller, wider, and longer than the outgoing variant. It’s also much more memorable to look at; following current SUV trends, Chevrolet gave the Traverse a more rugged appearance that borrows from both the full-size Tahoe SUV and Sierra pickup truck. Styling is always subjective, but in this instance, we think it’s fair to say Chevy got things right.

Verdict: More important than any additional visual bravado is that the 2024 Traverse has been improved in countless other ways. It has more standard driver aids, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There is more space for passengers, particularly those seated in the third row. And the infotainment system gets a much larger touchscreen.

2025 Hyundai Kona Reviews Summary

That there are no major changes beyond a couple of new trim levels for the 2025 Hyundai Kona is neither a surprise nor a bad thing. Not a surprise because this second-generation model only made its debut one year ago, making it too soon to expect any major updates. And not a bad thing because, frankly, this second-generation Kona was already a great subcompact SUV.

Time does not stand still, however, particularly when it comes to crossovers, so it’s time to find out how the Kona performs one year on, and whether it continues to deliver value in an increasingly busy part of the market.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse

8/10

2025 Hyundai Kona

8/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was available in four trims: LS, LT, Z71, and RS, with the Z71 being a new addition aimed at those interested in moderate off-roading. During test drives near Atlanta, it was clear that the Z71 was not designed for extreme off-road adventures like the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco but could handle reasonably rugged terrain. The Traverse's pricing was competitive, starting at $38,995 for the LS and reaching $55,595 for the RS, which came with nearly every available feature. The Z71 model, priced at $47,795, featured 18-inch alloy wheels and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat paint, with a Jet Black interior accented by "Torch Red" highlights. While synthetic leather seating was optional, the standard cloth seats were comfortable and breathable.

The 2025 Hyundai Kona, while visually unchanged from the 2024 model, maintained a distinctive appearance with its flush grille and slim LED light bars. The Kona's design, though not traditionally handsome, was futuristic and appealing. The 2025 model was six inches longer than its predecessor, enhancing interior space and road presence. The new N Line S trim, along with the N Line, offered sportier styling with body-colored bumpers and cladding. Other trims included SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, and Limited, each adding visual enhancements like larger alloy wheels and rear privacy glass. The interior remained solidly constructed, with 64-color ambient lighting now standard on higher trims. A sunroof and powered liftgate were available on select trims, adding to the Kona's appeal.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse replaced its previous 310-horsepower V6 engine with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. This new engine offered 18 more horsepower and 50 more lb-ft of torque than the discontinued V6. All-wheel drive was optional across all trims, with the Z71 featuring a more advanced system. The Traverse provided satisfactory acceleration and passing power, with a pleasant exhaust growl during acceleration. The steering was adequate, though the vehicle's 204.5-inch length was noticeable. The ride quality was excellent, even with the Z71's all-terrain tires and extra ground clearance. The brakes were progressive, and the stop-and-start feature was seamless. Fuel economy estimates ranged from 18 mpg city to 26 mpg highway for the Limited FWD model.

The 2025 Hyundai Kona offered two gas-powered engine options. The SE, SEL, and SEL Convenience trims featured a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission. The N Line S, N Line, and Limited trims had a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The turbo engine provided a broader torque band, though it felt slightly flat at low revs. All-wheel drive was available for an additional $1,500, offering a more sophisticated suspension setup. The Kona's ride and handling were competent, prioritizing comfort over sporty performance.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse's base LS model offered seating for eight, while the LT, Z71, and RS trims featured seven seats with second-row captain's chairs. The Smart Slide second-row seats were easy to use, and the power-folding third row was standard on the RS. Cargo volume was 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 96 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The Traverse had numerous storage compartments, including a hidden storage area under the center console and an underfloor storage bin in the cargo bay. Visibility was generally good, though the third row felt slightly enclosed. The Z71 model had a power-operated driver's seat, but the front passenger seat was manually adjustable.

The 2025 Hyundai Kona offered 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place, expanding to 63.7 cubic feet when folded. Rear legroom was 38.2 inches, with 38.3 inches of headroom, providing adequate space for most passengers. The front seats were comfortable, with adjustable steering and a large storage compartment replacing the drive selector. The Kona's interior featured numerous storage options, including shelves, trays, and cubbies. Upholstery varied by trim, with cloth on lower trims and Alcantara or leatherette on higher trims. Heating and ventilation options improved with higher trims, and dual-zone climate control was available on most models.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse featured a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, replacing the previous 8-inch screen. The system was responsive, with simple menus and an 11-inch digital instrument display. The Google-based software included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with a wireless charging pad in the center console. Physical controls for volume and HVAC functions were retained, though the driving mode button was less accessible. The Traverse offered Super Cruise, a hands-free driving aid, which expanded its functionality to include single-lane roadways.

The 2025 Hyundai Kona came with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Higher trims included wireless smartphone charging and a digital key. The SEL Convenience trim and above featured a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while lower trims had a 4.2-inch display. The N Line and Limited trims offered an eight-speaker Bose audio system, with SiriusXM and HD Radio standard across all models. Hyundai's Bluelink connectivity allowed for over-the-air software updates.
