2024 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has gone from being something of a wallflower to becoming one of the more stand-out choices among midsize SUVs with three rows of seating. That’s because Chevrolet’s design and engineering team did its homework when it came time to update this third generation of the Traverse, a model that has featured in the brand’s lineup since its introduction back for the 2009 model year.

The 2024 Chevy Traverse is taller, wider, and longer than the outgoing variant. It’s also much more memorable to look at; following current SUV trends, Chevrolet gave the Traverse a more rugged appearance that borrows from both the full-size Tahoe SUV and Sierra pickup truck. Styling is always subjective, but in this instance, we think it’s fair to say Chevy got things right.

Verdict: More important than any additional visual bravado is that the 2024 Traverse has been improved in countless other ways. It has more standard driver aids, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There is more space for passengers, particularly those seated in the third row. And the infotainment system gets a much larger touchscreen.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Reviews Summary

It would appear to be the calendar, not the competition, that has the Ioniq 5 due for a mid-cycle refresh. We liked it when it burst onto the scene as an angular oddball in a sea of soft-lined sameness, and it has only improved over the last few years.

Verdict: Hyundai makes minor but welcome changes and avoids tweaking the many things that were working well, successfully making a good thing better.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse

8/10

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

9/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was available in four main trims: LS, LT, Z71, and RS. The Z71 was a new addition, designed for those interested in moderate off-roading. During test drives near Atlanta, Chevrolet emphasized that the Z71 was not intended for extreme off-road adventures like those tackled by the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco. Instead, it was engineered for reasonably rugged terrain. The Traverse's pricing was competitive, with the LS starting at $38,995 and the RS topping the range at $55,595. The Z71 model, priced at $47,795, featured 18-inch alloy wheels and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat paint. Inside, the Jet Black interior was accented with "Torch Red" highlights, and while synthetic leather seating was optional, the standard cloth seats were comfortable and breathable.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 maintained its distinctive appearance, drawing retro comparisons to the Lancia Delta. The mid-cycle refresh included mild revisions to the lower front fascia, but the iconic "Parametric Pixel" headlights and taillights remained. The new XRT trim stood out with red tow hooks and black plastic bumper cladding featuring a "digital camouflage" pattern. Exclusive colors like Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl were introduced, along with new wheel designs. The interior saw minor changes, retaining its open and modern feel. The center console was revised for functionality, and the XRT trim featured a dark interior with all-weather floor mats. The Ioniq 5's cabin remained minimalistic, with a focus on functionality and comfort.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse replaced its previous 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. This new engine offered 18 more horsepower and 50 more lb-ft of torque than the discontinued V6. All-wheel drive was optional on every trim, with the Z71 featuring a more advanced dual-clutch system. The Traverse provided acceptable acceleration and passing power, with a pleasant exhaust growl during acceleration. The steering was adequate for its size, and the ride was smooth, even with the Z71's all-terrain tires and extra ground clearance. The brakes were progressive, and the stop-and-start feature was seamless. Fuel economy estimates ranged from 18 mpg city to 26 highway for the Limited with FWD.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT featured a Terrain Mode button with options for Snow, Mud, and Sand, adjusting throttle mapping, wheel slip, power distribution, and regenerative braking. The XRT handled off-road conditions well, with AWD as standard. The Ioniq 5's battery capacity increased for 2025, offering a range of up to 318 miles in RWD configuration. Power output varied, with RWD models producing up to 225 horsepower and AWD models reaching 320 horsepower. Despite its weight, the Ioniq 5 offered enjoyable driving dynamics, thanks to the instant torque of its electric motors.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse offered seating for eight in the base LS model, while the LT, Z71, and RS featured second-row captain's chairs for seven-passenger capacity. The Smart Slide second-row seats were easy to use, and a power-folding third row was available. Cargo volume was 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 96 cubic feet with seats folded. The cabin featured numerous storage options, including a hidden storage area under the center console. Visibility was generally good, though the third row had limited views. The Z71's driver's seat was power-operated, but the front passenger seat was manually adjustable.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 addressed previous complaints by adding a rear windshield wiper. The interior featured a movable center console with fore-and-aft cupholders and a wireless charging pad. Heated front seats were standard, with additional features like a heated steering wheel and front seat ventilation available on higher trims. Interior dimensions remained unchanged, with generous legroom and cargo space of 26.3 cubic feet, expanding to 58.5 cubic feet with seats folded. The Ioniq 5 transitioned to the North American Charging System, allowing access to Tesla's Supercharger network, and included a CCS adapter for public charging.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse featured a new 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, replacing the previous 8-inch screen. The system was responsive, with simple menus and an 11-inch digital instrument display. The Google-based software included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Z71's wireless charging pad was effective, and physical controls for volume and HVAC functions were retained. Super Cruise, Chevrolet's hands-free driving aid, was available for the first time on the Traverse, expanding its functionality to single-lane roadways.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 retained its dual 12.3-inch screens, with improved functionality and faster processing speeds. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, and the Bose Premium Audio system was available on the XRT trim. The SE and SEL trims featured a six-speaker sound system, with standard navigation, dynamic voice recognition, and multiple USB-C ports. The Ioniq 5 included a head-up display on the Limited trim and a wireless charging pad starting at the SEL trim level.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse had not yet undergone crash tests by NHTSA or IIHS at the time of testing. However, it offered a comprehensive suite of driver aids, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot warning, and adaptive cruise control. These features provided peace of mind during the test drive.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 received top safety ratings, including a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and five stars from NHTSA. New safety features included an enhanced driver attention system, reverse and forward parking-distance warning, and a surround-view monitor on the XRT trim. Highway Driving Assist 1 and 2 were available, offering adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist functions.
