2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Reviews Summary

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV trades on the established Equinox nameplate to help ease the transition to battery-electric power, but the Equinox EV is just that: an EV, from the ground up. Its dedicated architecture is wholly independent of the internal-combustion-engined (ICE) Equinox compact SUV. It’s available in two well-known Chevy flavors, LT and RS, with additional differentiation among the more sedate 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT and the sportier 2RS and 3RS. Accounting for current availability puts base MSRP at $43,295, for the 2LT, but that will fall to $34,995 when the 1LT trim level becomes available later in 2024.

Verdict: The Equinox EV does exactly what its name promises, offering the benefits of electric power in a comfortable package, and at a price point that’s hard to beat.

2025 Honda Pilot Reviews Summary

Honda keeps it simple with the 2025 Pilot, offering a single powertrain with a choice between front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). Nearly all Pilots have eight-passenger seating, and with higher trims, the second-row center section is removable to create a seven-passenger configuration. The Black Edition returns to the top of the lineup for 2025, equipped with blacked-out exterior trim and red interior accents. Also, the Honda Service Pass program is cut to 12 months or 12,000 miles.

Verdict: With the 2025 Pilot, Honda hasn’t messed with success. It is a roomy and practical daily driver that makes life easy, has plenty of power to effortlessly get up to speed, and is safe for transporting the people you love the most. However, it is time for Honda to offer a hybrid version.

Look and feel

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV

8/10

2025 Honda Pilot

6/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV initially appeared similar to its internal combustion engine counterpart, sharing features like rounded wheel wells and a flat beltline. However, upon closer inspection, the EV version showcased more decisive lines, a thicker body-colored C-pillar, and a sleeker grille. The front fascia was predominantly body-colored, and the rear design was more defined, featuring hexagonal shapes and a light bar echoing the front. Standard 19-inch aluminum wheels were available on the 1LT and 2LT trims, while higher trims boasted 21-inch versions. The Equinox EV offered vibrant color options like "Red Hot" and "Riptide Blue Metallic," with two-tone paint jobs available on select trims. Interior color choices expanded with higher trims, offering options like Adrenaline Red and black with red accents.

The 2025 Honda Pilot, particularly in the Black Edition trim, featured black wheels, blacked-out exterior trim, and black badges. Inside, it offered black leather seats with red perforation accents, red contrast stitching, and ambient lighting. The Pilot's design aimed for a rugged look, especially in the TrailSport trim, but the Black Edition was more suited for suburban environments. The interior was thoughtfully designed with quality materials, though the digital displays appeared dated. Despite this, the Pilot maintained a practical and attractive design, with features like a removable second-row center section and ample storage solutions.

Performance

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV offered a hands-free start feature and one-pedal driving across all trims. It provided a comfortable ride with its 19-inch wheels and stable handling. The single-motor, front-wheel-drive variant delivered 213 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, while the all-wheel-drive version boasted 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. The Equinox EV had an impressive range, with the FWD model achieving 319 miles and the AWD model 285 miles. It featured an 85-kWh battery and supported DC fast charging up to 150 kW, regaining about 77 miles of range in 10 minutes.

The 2025 Honda Pilot was powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, generating 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It offered multiple driving modes, including Normal, Econ, Snow, Tow, Sport, Trail, and Sand. The Pilot's AWD system provided hill descent control and torque vectoring, enhancing its off-road capabilities. However, the transmission occasionally felt slow to downshift, and fuel economy was lackluster, averaging 20 mpg. The Pilot's handling was predictable, though an adaptive-damping suspension system would have improved ride quality on undulating roads.

Form and function

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, starting from the 2LT trim, included heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and outside mirrors. It offered an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and optional panoramic moonroof. The 3LT trim added power adjustments for the passenger seat, front-seat ventilation, and heated rear seats. The Equinox EV provided 39.15 inches of front headroom and 41.65 inches of front legroom. Cargo space was 26.4 cubic feet with all seats in place, expanding to 57.2 cubic feet with the second row folded.

The 2025 Honda Pilot excelled in form and function, with three rows of comfortable seating and thoughtful storage solutions. The Black Edition featured a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat but only a four-way adjustment for the front passenger. The second-row seats were roomy, with a removable center section for easy access to the third row. The Pilot offered 18.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 86.5 cubic feet with both rear rows folded. It included a triple-zone automatic climate control system and a panoramic sunroof.

Technology

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV featured a driver-oriented cockpit with a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 11-inch driver-information screen. Google Built-In was standard, providing Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store. An eight-year OnStar Remote Access Plan subscription was included, offering navigation and route planning through the MyChevrolet app.

The 2025 Honda Pilot's technology appeared dated, with a 10.2-inch digital gauge panel and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. However, the voice recognition system was inconsistent, and the wireless phone charging pad was not recessed, causing charging interruptions. The Pilot featured CabinTalk for driver-passenger communication and a small head-up display.

The 2025 Honda Pilot was equipped with Honda Sensing safety features, such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. The Black Edition included parking sensors and a multi-view camera system with TrailWatch technology. The Pilot earned high safety ratings, with the IIHS naming it a Top Safety Pick+ and the NHTSA awarding it five stars.
