2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV vs 2024 Lexus TX

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV initially appeared similar to its internal combustion engine counterpart, sharing features like rounded wheel wells and a flat beltline. However, upon closer inspection, the EV version showcased more decisive lines, a thicker body-colored C-pillar, and a sleeker grille. The front fascia was predominantly body-colored, and the rear design was more defined, featuring hexagonal shapes and an LED light bar. Standard 19-inch aluminum wheels were available on the 1LT and 2LT trims, while higher trims boasted 21-inch versions. The Equinox EV offered vibrant color options like “Red Hot” and “Riptide Blue Metallic,” with two-tone paint jobs available on certain trims, adding a youthful and exuberant touch.

Inside, the Equinox EV provided a range of interior color options as one moved up the trim levels. The base model was limited to black, but higher trims offered choices like black with blue accents or Sky Cool Gray. Sporty trims featured Adrenaline Red or black with red accents. The interior design was complemented by features like heated front seats and a panoramic moonroof, enhancing the overall appeal.

The 2024 Lexus TX, based on the Toyota Grand Highlander, presented itself as a luxury SUV with a more upscale appearance. The Luxury trim featured 22-inch silver-finished wheels, enhancing its presence. The TX’s styling was more conservative compared to other Lexus models, appealing to those who preferred a toned-down design. The TX was available in three model series: TX 350, TX 500h F Sport Performance, and TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid, with prices ranging from $55,050 to $69,350. The TX 350, likely the volume-selling version, came with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and options for FWD or AWD.

Our test vehicle, a TX 350 with Luxury trim, included features like a Convenience Package, Technology Package, and a 21-speaker surround-sound audio system. The interior, though dark, offered premium semi-aniline leather upholstery and a Peppercorn color scheme. Despite the lack of a massage function, the TX 350’s interior was luxurious enough to bear the Lexus badge, with features like heated and ventilated seats and a panoramic glass sunroof.

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV featured a hands-free start and offered a driving experience that felt familiar to traditional car owners. It supported one-pedal driving and had various drive modes, including Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice, and My Mode. The single-motor FWD variant delivered 213 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, while the AWD version offered 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. The Equinox EV boasted an impressive range, with the FWD model achieving 319 miles and the AWD version 285 miles. It supported DC fast charging up to 150 kW, allowing for quick recharging.

The 2024 Lexus TX 350 was equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. It accelerated to 60 mph in about eight seconds. The TX 350 FWD had an EPA rating of 23 mpg in combined driving, though our test averaged 20.4 mpg. The AWD option improved traction and slightly enhanced acceleration. The TX 350’s suspension provided a balance between road feel and comfort, with commendable body motion control and quiet highway driving.

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV offered features like heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat starting from the 2LT trim. The 3LT trim added front-seat ventilation and heated rear seats. The Equinox EV provided 39.15 inches of front headroom and 41.65 inches of front legroom, with a cargo space of 26.4 cubic feet, expandable to 57.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Roof rails were standard on all but the base trim, enhancing utility.

The 2024 Lexus TX addressed previous shortcomings in Lexus’s three-row SUVs. The TX 350 Luxury trim included premium leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, and a heated steering wheel. The second-row bench seat was standard, with optional captain’s chairs. The third-row seat was spacious enough for adults, offering a comfortable ride. The TX provided 20.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expandable to 97 cubic feet with all seats folded. The interior featured numerous storage options, though some lacked lining, potentially causing noise.

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV featured a driver-oriented cockpit with a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 11-inch driver-information screen. Google Built-In was standard, offering Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store. An eight-year OnStar Remote Access Plan was included, providing navigation and route planning through the MyChevrolet app.
