2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Reviews Summary

It may share a name with the gasoline-powered Blazer crossover SUV, but the Chevy Blazer EV is in fact a new vehicle based on the General Motors Ultium electric vehicle (EV) component set. It’s Chevy’s belated answer to the crosstown rival Ford Mustang Mach-E and other electric SUVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, and the Tesla Model Y.

Verdict: The Blazer EV offers unique style and impressive technology, but it doesn’t really move the needle when it comes to range, fast charging, or interior packaging. It’s also priced at the higher end of the segment in its launch form.

2025 Nissan Armada Reviews Summary

The everyman’s version of the Infiniti QX80, Nissan’s full-size SUV gets an expanded range for 2025. It’s still offered in familiar SV, SL, and Platinum trims, but Platinum Reserve has joined the roster and so, for the first time ever, has PRO-4X. We tested both new trims on a first drive program hosted by the automaker in Franklin, Tennessee.

Verdict: Nissan has undeniably improved the Armada with this new generation, and the PRO-4X and the Platinum Reserve trim levels both bring something new to the table. The PRO-4X adds just enough adventure-ready content to make it worth a look to shoppers who may not have considered it before, while the Platinum Reserve challenges the value of stepping up to an Infiniti.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

6/10

2025 Nissan Armada

9/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV marked a significant evolution for the Blazer nameplate, transitioning from its truck-based off-roader origins to a modern electric SUV. It retained some styling cues from the 2019 car-based crossover model, but was built on a new EV-specific platform. The Blazer EV's design was characterized by a tall hood, a reimagined front end, and boomerang-shaped taillights, giving it a more aggressive look compared to other electric SUVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6. The Blazer EV was notably larger, being about 7 inches longer and 4 inches wider than its competitors. It launched with LT and RS trims, each offering distinct styling elements, and promised a forthcoming SS model with unique features.

Inside, the Blazer EV's RS and SS models featured large round air vents and a flat-bottom steering wheel, reminiscent of the gasoline Blazer and Camaro. Optional red leather upholstery added a playful touch to the interior, which, while mostly free of piano-black plastic, still had some flimsy-feeling components. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Blazer EV's interior was more engaging than the plainer cabins of its rivals, offering a blend of style and functionality.

The 2025 Nissan Armada, on the other hand, presented a bold new design with a high beltline and a taller grille, reminiscent of its luxury counterpart, the Infiniti QX80. The PRO-4X trim stood out with its skid plate and unique front fascia, while the new C-shaped LED lights added a modern touch. The Armada's side profile was more business-like, with a parallel beltline and distinctive D-pillar accents. The PRO-4X trim emphasized its rugged character with black plastic cladding and unique design elements.

Inside, the Armada offered a luxurious experience, especially in the Platinum Reserve and PRO-4X trims. The cabin featured leather seats, a padded center console, and various color combinations, such as the Chestnut with Rye theme in the Platinum Reserve. The Armada's interior was spacious, with increased cargo volume and improved third-row legroom. The push-button transmission and wireless charging pad added convenience, while the "Zero Gravity" seats provided comfort, albeit feeling a bit deep. Overall, the Armada's interior was well-appointed, offering a premium feel across its trims.

Performance

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

8/10

2025 Nissan Armada

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV offered a range of powertrain options, including a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup for the LT and RS trims. The RWD model delivered 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 102-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The AWD variant, surprisingly, had a lower output of 288 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque, with an 85-kWh battery. A single-motor front-wheel drive (FWD) option was also planned for 2025, expected to be the most affordable and popular choice. The Blazer EV SS performance model promised a dual-motor AWD powertrain with 557 hp and 648 lb-ft of torque, capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds.

During test drives, the RWD and AWD Blazer EV RS models demonstrated strong acceleration, with the AWD version offering better traction. The Blazer EV's handling was precise, though its stiff suspension compromised ride comfort. The steering-wheel paddle for regenerative braking added a layer of driver involvement, allowing for adjustments to suit different driving styles.

The 2025 Nissan Armada introduced a new powertrain with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, inspired by the GT-R, producing 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission replaced the previous seven-speed, and all trims except the PRO-4X offered rear-wheel drive (RWD) or Nissan's Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive (4WD). The PRO-4X trim featured exclusive off-road enhancements, including an electronic locking rear differential and metal skid plates. The Armada's adaptive electronic air suspension, shared with the Platinum Reserve, provided a 33-degree approach angle and 9.6 inches of ground clearance.

On-road, the Armada's electric power steering offered a balanced feel, while the adaptive air suspension enhanced comfort. Off-road, the PRO-4X trim excelled in challenging conditions, with its suspension and Mud/Rut mode providing excellent ground clearance and traction.

Form and function

2025 Nissan Armada

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV's interior offered a spacious feel, though its headroom and legroom were comparable to the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6. The high side sills and deep dashboard created a unique driving experience, while cargo space was limited to 25.5 cubic feet with the second row in place and 59.1 cubic feet with the seats folded. Despite lacking a frunk, the Blazer EV featured a "presence activated" liftgate for added convenience. The interior provided ample small-item storage, though some controls were moved to the touchscreen, requiring adjustment.

The 2025 Nissan Armada's interior benefited from a push-button transmission, freeing up center console space for a wireless charging pad. The "Zero Gravity" seats offered comfort, with power adjustments varying by trim. The Armada's three-row configuration included a standard second-row bench, with captain's chairs available on Platinum trims. Cargo volume increased across all rows, with the third row folding flatter for easier loading. The Armada's headroom and legroom improved, though it still fell short compared to American rivals.

The system included a 17.7-inch touchscreen and 11-inch digital instrument cluster, offering sharp graphics and built-in route planning. The Blazer EV also featured a hands-free start sequence, marking a shift towards a high-tech driving experience.

The 2025 Nissan Armada came standard with two large screens, with sizes varying by trim. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, along with six USB-C ports. The SL trim added a wireless charging pad and Google Built-In, allowing for native Google Maps integration. A head-up display was optional, while a 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio System became standard on higher trims, offering an enhanced audio experience.

The 2025 Nissan Armada featured Nissan's ProPILOT Assist suite, with varying levels of advanced driver-assistance technologies. The most advanced version, ProPILOT Assist 2.1, offered hands-free highway-driving assist technology. Every Armada also came with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which included traffic-sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and more. Higher trims featured a surround-view camera and Nissan's 3D Around View Monitor, enhancing visibility and safety.
