2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Reviews Summary

It may share a name with the gasoline-powered Blazer crossover SUV, but the Chevy Blazer EV is in fact a new vehicle based on the General Motors Ultium electric vehicle (EV) component set. It’s Chevy’s belated answer to the crosstown rival Ford Mustang Mach-E and other electric SUVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, and the Tesla Model Y.

Verdict: The Blazer EV offers unique style and impressive technology, but it doesn’t really move the needle when it comes to range, fast charging, or interior packaging. It’s also priced at the higher end of the segment in its launch form.

2025 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

Redesigned in 2024, the 2025 Traverse gets a few additional changes. The base LS trim level disappears and the upscale High Country trim level is new. Chevrolet also makes the formerly optional Trailering Package standard equipment—so it’s easier to take advantage of the Traverse’s 5,000-pound towing capacity—and a new Sun and Wheel Package is available. Those updates broaden this Chevy’s appeal but do not address perceived quality issues related to the powertrain and interior materials.

Verdict: Chevy gets a lot of things right with the 2025 Traverse. However, there are head-scratchers related to quality and usability. From the unpleasant engine note and cheap interior plastics to the fussy wiper controls and aggravating third-row folding process, the Traverse regularly draws unfavorable attention to itself.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

6/10

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV marked a significant evolution for the Blazer nameplate, transitioning from its truck-based off-roader roots to a modern electric SUV. It retained some styling cues from the gasoline-powered Blazer, but its design was more aggressive, with a tall hood and boomerang-shaped taillights. Built on the General Motors Ultium platform, the Blazer EV shared a long wheelbase with the Cadillac Lyriq, giving it a stretched appearance. Despite its size, the Blazer EV maintained a sporty look, distinguishing itself from more aerodynamically styled rivals like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6.

The Blazer EV launched with LT and RS trims, each offering distinct styling elements. The LT featured a color-coordinated front fascia, while the RS boasted a blacked-out look with larger wheels. Inside, the RS and SS trims offered a more engaging interior with large round air vents and optional red leather upholstery, reminiscent of the Camaro. While some interior components felt flimsy, the Blazer EV largely avoided the overuse of piano-black plastic seen in other brands, providing a more refined cabin experience.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse impressed with its exterior styling, continuing Chevrolet's trend of attractive SUV designs. Inside, the Traverse featured digital instrumentation and a Google-based infotainment system, offering a modern and appealing layout. However, the quality of materials, such as hard plastic and artificial leather, detracted from the overall sense of sophistication, especially given the Traverse's price point.

For 2025, the Traverse was available in LT, Z71, High Country, and RS trims, with prices ranging from $41,095 to $55,495. The Z71 trim, designed for off-road adventures, included features like a panoramic sunroof, Driver Confidence Package, and Enhanced Driving Package. Despite its rugged appearance, the Traverse's interior materials did not match the expectations set by its exterior design, leaving room for improvement in terms of perceived quality.

Performance

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

8/10

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

6/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV offered a range of powertrain options, including a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. The RWD models delivered 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 102-kilowatt-hour battery pack. In contrast, the AWD models produced 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque, with an 85-kWh battery. Interestingly, the dual-motor AWD had a lower output than the single-motor RWD, positioning it as the base offering. The Blazer EV SS performance model promised a dual-motor AWD powertrain with 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque, capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds.

During test drives, both RWD and AWD versions of the Blazer EV RS demonstrated strong acceleration, with the AWD model providing better traction off the line. The Blazer EV's handling was precise, though its stiff suspension compromised ride comfort. The steering-wheel paddle for regenerative braking added a layer of driver involvement, allowing for adjustments to suit different driving styles and conditions.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse featured a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. While the engine's exhaust note was less than pleasing, it provided ample power, especially in AWD mode, where it delivered controlled and satisfying acceleration. The Z71 trim, designed for off-road use, offered 7.7 inches of ground clearance, unique 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a Twin Clutch AWD system.

The Traverse Z71 excelled on trails, handling ruts and mud with ease. Its off-road suspension and tires also contributed to a smoother ride on poorly maintained roads. Despite its size, the Traverse's all-terrain tires provided good grip and minimal noise. The vehicle's EPA-rated fuel economy was 21 mpg in combined driving, with the test vehicle achieving 21.5 mpg.

Form and function

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

5/10

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV offered a spacious interior, though its headroom and legroom were comparable to rivals like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6. The high side sills and deep dashboard created a unique driving experience, while cargo space measured 25.5 cubic feet with the second row in place and 59.1 cubic feet with the seats folded. Despite lacking a frunk, the Blazer EV provided more cargo space than the EV6 and featured a "presence activated" liftgate for convenience.

Inside, the Blazer EV's interior design allowed for ample small-item storage, including a large phone parking area and a center console storage bin. However, some controls were moved to the touchscreen, requiring adjustment for users accustomed to physical buttons.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse boasted a spacious interior, particularly in terms of width. Front-seat occupants enjoyed ample space, with an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat and heated front seats. The Traverse offered eight-passenger seating with a second-row bench seat, while our test vehicle featured individual captain's chairs for added comfort.

The third-row seats provided adequate comfort, though the lack of a view and USB charging ports could be a drawback for passengers. The Traverse offered 22.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 56.6 cubic feet with the seats folded. However, folding the third row required adjusting the second-row seats, adding complexity to the process.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV introduced a new Google-based infotainment system, featuring built-in Google apps like Google Maps and Google Assistant. While standalone Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were eliminated, the system offered a 17.7-inch touchscreen and 11-inch digital instrument cluster with sharp graphics. The infotainment system included built-in route planning and over-the-air software updates, enhancing functionality over time.

The Blazer EV's user experience was generally positive, with intuitive layouts and a hands-free start sequence. However, the touchscreen's angle and the reliance on touchscreen-based controls for certain functions could be inconvenient for some users.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse came equipped with a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Google Built-in, Alexa compatibility, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system's user interface was straightforward, with Google Assistant providing accurate voice recognition. The Traverse also offered an 11-inch digital instrumentation panel with customizable views.

Optional features included a camera-based digital rearview mirror and a high-definition surround-view camera system, enhancing visibility and maneuverability. The lack of a tuning knob was a minor drawback, but the steering wheel controls provided an alternative for adjusting radio stations and volume.

Safety

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV came with standard safety features such as automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beams. Optional driver aids included reverse automatic braking, park assist, and the Super Cruise hands-free driver assist system. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA were not available at the time of publication.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse offered a comprehensive suite of standard safety features, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane-keep assist. The test vehicle's Driver Confidence Package added a surround-view camera system and traffic sign recognition, while the Enhanced Driving Package included Super Cruise and remote-parking technology. The Traverse received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and a "Top Safety Pick" award from the IIHS.
