2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Reviews Summary

It may share a name with the gasoline-powered Blazer crossover SUV, but the Chevy Blazer EV is in fact a new vehicle based on the General Motors Ultium electric vehicle (EV) component set. It’s Chevy’s belated answer to the crosstown rival Ford Mustang Mach-E and other electric SUVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, and the Tesla Model Y.

Verdict: The Blazer EV offers unique style and impressive technology, but it doesn’t really move the needle when it comes to range, fast charging, or interior packaging. It’s also priced at the higher end of the segment in its launch form.

2025 BMW X3 Reviews Summary

With alluring proportions, unusual design, and impressive technology, the 2025 X3 seems like a bargain at its sticker price. However, this BMW is not about traditional luxury, so set those expectations aside. Instead, it is a study in minimalism, with simple forms, reductive controls, and Germanic austerity. Nevertheless, its comfort, technology, and driving dynamics make the X3 rewarding, and BMW provides plenty of options to tailor the X3 to your preferences.

Verdict: We had some unexpected trouble with BMW’s latest infotainment system, the Steering Assistant technology proved aggravating in certain situations, and our test vehicle’s 21-inch wheels and M Sport suspension tuning produced a firm, jiggly ride on imperfect road surfaces. However, despite these complaints, the redesigned 2025 BMW X3 impresses.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

6/10

2025 BMW X3

8/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV marked a significant evolution for the Blazer nameplate, transitioning from its truck-based off-roader roots to a modern electric SUV. The Blazer EV retained some styling cues from its gasoline counterpart, such as the scowling front end and boomerang-shaped taillights, but it was built on a new EV-specific platform. This platform, shared with the Cadillac Lyriq, resulted in a long 121.8-inch wheelbase, giving the Blazer EV a stretched appearance. Despite its larger dimensions compared to rivals like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6, the Blazer EV maintained a bold SUV look rather than prioritizing aerodynamics.

The Blazer EV launched with LT and RS trim levels, each offering distinct styling elements. The LT featured a color-coordinated front fascia, while the RS boasted a blacked-out front fascia and larger 21-inch wheels. Inside, the RS and SS models offered a more engaging interior with large round air vents and a flat-bottom steering wheel, reminiscent of the Camaro. While the interior had some flimsy components, it mostly avoided the overuse of piano-black plastic seen in other brands. The Blazer EV's interior aimed to provide a fun and stylish experience, contrasting with the plainer cabins of some competitors.

The 2025 BMW X3, on the other hand, presented a seductive appearance for a two-box SUV. Its long hood, captivating dashboard-to-axle ratio, and tapering greenhouse gave it an athletic look. The test model's Arctic Race Blue paint, combined with machined surface wheels and gloss black M Sport details, added to its allure. Inside, the X3's cabin featured quality materials, though some lower plastic elements revealed its price point. The X3 was available in 30 xDrive and M50 xDrive models, with prices ranging from $51,125 to $65,875. The X3 offered a good value compared to rivals like the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, with a well-equipped test vehicle priced at $60,875.

Performance

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

8/10

2025 BMW X3

9/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV offered a range of powertrain options, including a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. The RWD models delivered 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, while the AWD models produced 288 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque. The Blazer EV SS performance model, with a dual-motor AWD powertrain, boasted 557 hp and 648 lb-ft of torque, achieving a 0-60 mph time of under four seconds. The Blazer EV's driving experience was characterized by strong acceleration and precise steering, though the stiff suspension compromised comfort on rough roads. The regenerative braking system added a level of driver involvement, allowing for adjustable regen levels.

The 2025 BMW X3 30 xDrive featured a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Despite its weight, the X3 achieved a 0-60 mph time of six seconds, thanks to its eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive AWD system. The X3's 48-volt mild-hybrid system improved responsiveness and made the start-stop system nearly imperceptible. For those seeking more power, the M50 xDrive offered a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 393 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, reaching 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The X3's driving experience was engaging, with a sport-tuned suspension and performance tires, though the ride quality could be harsh on imperfect roads.

Form and function

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

5/10

2025 BMW X3

8/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV's interior felt spacious, though headroom and legroom were similar to rivals like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6. The Blazer EV lacked the commanding driving position of a traditional SUV, and its high side sills and deep dashboard created a unique feel. Cargo space measured 25.5 cubic feet with the second row in place and 59.1 cubic feet with the seats folded, offering more space than the EV6 but less than the gasoline Blazer. The Blazer EV's interior featured expected small-item storage, though some controls were moved to the touchscreen.

The 2025 BMW X3's interior provided a wider and larger feel than most compact crossovers. The dashboard featured a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The front seats offered power adjustment, heating, and ventilation, while the rear seats were less comfortable for taller passengers. The cargo area measured 31.5 cubic feet, with additional storage under the load floor. The X3's interior design emphasized comfort and practicality, with thoughtful storage solutions and a user-friendly layout.

Technology

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

8/10

2025 BMW X3

4/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV introduced a new Google-based infotainment system with built-in Google apps, though it lacked standalone Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system featured a 17.7-inch touchscreen and 11-inch digital instrument cluster, offering sharp graphics and built-in route planning. The Blazer EV also introduced a hands-free start sequence, allowing drivers to start the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal.

The 2025 BMW X3 featured the iDrive 9 system, an evolution of iDrive 8.5, with a Quick Select user experience. However, our test vehicle experienced issues with profile creation and accessing BMW Digital Services. The system occasionally froze and defaulted to local FM radio. Despite these challenges, the navigation system provided accurate directions, and wireless Apple CarPlay worked flawlessly. The X3's infotainment system had potential, but our experience was marred by technical difficulties.

Safety

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV came equipped with standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beams. Optional features included reverse automatic braking, park assist, and the Super Cruise hands-free driver assist system. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA were not available at the time of publication.

The 2025 BMW X3 offered a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and active blind-spot monitoring. The Premium Package added adaptive cruise control and Parking Assistant Plus, while the Driving Assistant Professional Package included hands-free Traffic Jam Assistant and Lane Change Assistant. The X3 earned a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA, with four-star ratings for the driver and front passenger in the frontal-impact crash test.
