2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS vs 2023 Honda HR-V

The lowered beltline and simplified detailing contributed to a sleeker look, with cleaner lines and fewer interruptions. The windshield wipers were discreetly tucked under the hood, and the black molding strips on the roof were removed. The EX-L model we tested featured a Nordic Forest Pearl color, adding to its refined aesthetic. Inside, the HR-V offered a comfortable cabin with perforated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and a power moonroof, creating an upscale feel.

In contrast, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS exuded a soft sensuality typical of modern Mercedes design, which, while bordering on boring, aged gracefully. Our GLS 450 test vehicle boasted 22-inch AMG rims, a new silver grille design, and a Twilight Blue paint color. The interior showcased a Bahia Brown over Black color scheme with polished aluminum accents and natural-grain Grey Oak trim. The GLS 450's cabin was luxurious, with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, and a commanding view over the hood, making it a delightful place to spend time.

The 2023 Honda HR-V featured a single powertrain option: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine producing 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. This was an improvement over the previous model, but it still felt underpowered compared to competitors. The updated CVT included a Step-Shift function to mimic traditional automatic transmission sounds. Drivers could choose from Normal, Snow, ECON, and Sport modes to tailor the driving experience. The HR-V offered FWD or AWD, with improved suspension and widened tracks for a more enjoyable drive, though it remained noisier at higher speeds.

The GLS 450's adaptive air suspension and massive tires contributed to its impressive handling, while the brakes performed admirably. The Off-Road menu in MBUX provided additional capabilities for adventurous drivers.

The 2023 Honda HR-V, a subcompact SUV, offered a well-thought-out interior with a center console featuring a shelf for storage. Despite its compact size, it provided 98.7 cubic feet of passenger volume in LX and Sport trims and 97.3 in EX-L. Cargo space measured 24.4 cubic feet with rear seats up and 55.1 with them folded.
