BMW allows most of its vehicles to be certified by franchise dealers for sale under the company’s certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle program.
BMW vehicles go through a series of checks and updates before being sold under the CPO program:
- Maintenance history must be brought up to date
- Any third-party parts are swapped for genuine BMW parts
- The vehicle must have more than 300 miles but less than 60,000 miles on the odometer
- The vehicle must be road tested
- The history report for the vehicle can’t show any major collisions or accidents
Warranties
BMW CPO vehicles come with warranties that extend coverage beyond what is offered from the factory. Assuming the vehicle is still covered under the original 4-year/50,000-mile warranty that it had when new, the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty adds an additional year and unlimited miles to that coverage, for a total of 5 years and no mileage limit.
The company doesn’t separate its coverage into bumper-to-bumper and powertrain like some manufacturers. Instead, it offers a list of items that are not covered:
- Common wear items like brake components, spark plugs, wiper blades, and tires
- Manual- and SMG-transmission clutch assemblies
- Batteries and other standard upkeep items
- Oil changes and wheel alignments
- Most suspension components
- Interior bulbs and most trim pieces
The company also says that any non-original parts or modifications to the vehicle won’t be covered under the certified pre-owned warranty.
Extended Warranty
BMW offers extended coverage above and beyond the CPO warranty through its CPO Wrap program. CPO Wrap kicks in after the original CPO warranty expires, providing additional benefits and extended protection for your certified pre-owned vehicle.
Transferability
BMW’s CPO warranties are transferable to subsequent owners. If you are the original owner of a BMW Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, you can transfer your warranty to a private buyer by completing and submitting the Limited Warranty Transfer Application.
Perks
Roadside Assistance
BMW CPO vehicles come with an additional three years of BMW Roadside Assistance beyond the original coverage. Assistance can include:
- Towing services
- Battery jump starts
- Fuel or fluid delivery at the driver’s expense for materials
- Tire-change assistance
- Lock-out services
- Trip-interruption benefits
BMW also offers a remote vehicle diagnostics service that uses telematics to read vehicle data and warning messages. If problems arise that don’t require an in-person visit from roadside assistance, help can be delivered by phone. If you find yourself stranded, BMW will help arrange a ride and can assist with hotel accommodations.
Special Financing
BMW offers special rates and terms for its CPO vehicles.
