What’s New for the 2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9
So far, Hyundai has announced only a high-end, special-edition trim level for the 2027 model year called the AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink. Based on the top Calligraphy trim, it comes loaded with standard features and gets Abyss Black Pearl exterior paint and blacked-out exterior accents that include a black chrome front skid plate and rear garnish, gloss-black roof rails, black window moldings, a black Hyundai emblem, and black 21-inch wheels. Inside, it gets black aluminum trim and a black steering wheel.
Design
The Ioniq 9 AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink comes fully “murdered out.” You can’t find anything but black on the exterior, including all the features mentioned above. The design features a somewhat soft look, with rounded lines punctuated by tech-inspired lighting. The nose sports a full-width line of daytime running lights (DRLs) in the shape of pixels. The headlights are set lower and vertically, also inspired by the pixel shape. In profile, the Ioniq 9 has flat wheel arches with eyebrow highlights. A character line that defines a rear haunch starts in the middle of each rear door and sweeps back to the taillights. The greenhouse tapers toward the rear to create something of a boattail shape. At the back, vertical taillights also take on the pixel shape and they extend all the way up to and around the roofline. It’s all set on turbine-style 21-inch wheels, also in black.
Powertrain
The reason the Ioniq 9 Calligraphy Blank Ink wears the AWD Performance name is that it uses this SUV’s most powerful powertrain, with front and rear motors that give it all-wheel drive (AWD). It makes 422 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
A 110.3-kWh battery should give it the same 311 miles of range as the 2026 Calligraphy trim, and an 800-volt electrical architecture allows it to DC fast charge from 10-80 percent in about 24 minutes. It comes standard with a NACS port that gives it access to the Tesla Supercharger network, and an 11-kw onboard charger will allow it to charge from 10-80% in 9 hours and 40 minutes on a Level 2 home charger. Standard vehicle-to-load charging capability lets the SUV charge devices and even other EVs.
The AWD powertrain should also enable the same 5,000-pound towing capacity as the 2026 model.

Interior
Expect the Black Ink edition to have the same interior features as the 2026 Ioniq 9 Calligraphy. That includes eight-way power-adjustable front seats with power lumbar adjustments, heated and ventilated front seats, and driver’s seat memory. Hyundai confirms that the second-row will come with captain’s chairs (for six-passenger seating) with power recline and ventilation, and the third row will have heated seats. A panoramic roof will also come standard.
The 2027 Ioniq 9 Black Ink should carry over the same cargo space as all 2026 models. That consists of 21.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 46.7 cubic feet behind the second row with the third row folded flat, and 86.9 cubic feet behind the first row with the rear two rows folded.
Technology
The Ioniq 9 Calligraphy Black Ink will come with a bank of screens that consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Other standard features will include a 10-inch head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, a digital key, wireless smartphone charging, satellite radio, an integrated front and rear dashcam, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 14-speaker Bose audio system.
