What’s New for the 2026 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport got a major refresh in 2024 with design tweaks to the exterior, a new turbo engine, and a new infotainment system. In 2025, it got a new SEL R-Line Black trim, new exterior paint colors, and standard wireless charging. The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is largely a carry over, with the only change being that the SE with Technology trim and above receive a factory installed HomeLink mirror.
Design
The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport has an upright stance with strong horizontal lines. Roof rails are standard, as are 18-inch wheels. The SE with Technology, SEL, and SEL R-Line Black trims all have standard 20-inch wheels, and the SEL Premium R-Line upgrades to 21-inch wheels. The SE with Technology trim does offer a Black Wheel Package ($595), but since the SEL R-Line Black trim is essentially an appearance package in itself with blacked-out exterior accents, there are no other appearance packages offered for 2026.
Powertrain
There is just one engine option for the 2026 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, and it’s a 269-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Front-wheel drive is standard on the SE and SE with Technology, with all-wheel drive being a $1,900 option. Starting at the SEL trim, AWD is standard. The SE trim has a max towing capacity of 2,000 pounds when equipped with an aftermarket hitch and braked trailer. The SE with Technology trim and above include a trailer hitch standard and increase towing capacity to 5,000 pounds. FWD models deliver a city/highway/combined fuel economy of 20/26/23 mpg, and AWD models get 19/26/21 mpg.

Interior
As a two-row midsize SUV, the 2026 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport offers seating for five. Leatherette seating surfaces are standard, as are heated-and-ventilated seats. You’ll get leather seats starting at the SEL trim and perforated Vienna leather seats on the SEL Premium R-Line. A panoramic sunroof is available on the SE with Technology and standard starting at the SEL trim. The cargo space is plentiful with 40.3 cu-ft behind the second row and 77.6 cu-ft behind the first row.
Technology
The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport offers a lot of standard technology, starting with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital gauge cluster, wireless phone charging, and four USB-C charging ports. Available technology includes remote start, a hands-free power liftgate, illuminated exterior emblems, adjustable ambient lighting, and a head-up display. On the SEL Premium R-Line, you’ll also get features such as massaging front seats, a 360-degree camera, and Harmon Kardon premium audio system.
