The Kia Sorento is the smallest of the brand’s three-row crossover SUVs, and the Hybrid model offers improved fuel economy versus the standard gas version, though Kia also has a Sorento Plug-In Hybrid model. The Sorento competes with the Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-90, Honda Pilot, and Toyota Highlander, though it’s smaller than the last two and the Pilot doesn’t offer a hybrid.

What’s New for the 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid
For 2026, the Sorento Hybrid adds a new top-of-the-line X-Line SX-Prestige trim featuring black exterior trim and additional equipment. The base EX trim gets a second-row bench seat instead of captain’s chairs, available all-wheel drive (AWD) now offers a Terrain mode, and all models get a new steering wheel with hands-on detection.
Design
The Sorento Hybrid is an attractive crossover SUV that takes inspiration from Kia’s larger Telluride. The nose features a blocky look, vertically stacked headlights, and a wide version of the Kia “tiger” grille mirrored below by a wide air intake. In profile, the daylight opening (essentially the totality of the side window shape) tapers at the rear, while the doors and fenders are sculpted to reduce visual weight. Black wheel arches sit over standard 19-inch wheels. The rear has a simple look, with a spoiler at the top, “n”-shaped taillights, and a large Kia badge in the center. The X-Line version adds a roof rack, a gloss-black grille, and skid plates molded into the bumpers.
Powertrain
The Sorento Hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor located between the engine and transmission, which together produce 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Power flows through a six-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels or all four wheels.
EPA-rated fuel economy is 37 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined with front-wheel drive (FWD), and the AWD version tops out at 35/32/34 mpg. Towing capacity is a modest 1,654 pounds. The Sorento Hybrid’s available AWD system is designed primarily for poor-weather traction rather than off-road performance.

Interior
The Sorento Hybrid seats up to seven with three rows of seats; available second-row captain’s chairs reduce that to six. Kia upholsters the base Sorento Hybrid in synthetic leather and outfits it with power-adjustable, heated front seats. The step-up model features real leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, more power seat adjustments, driver’s seat memory, and a heated steering wheel. A panoramic sunroof is standard on the top model and optional for the base model.
The Sorento Hybrid has 12.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 38.5 to 45 cubic feet behind the second row (depending on the position of the second-row seat), and 75.5 cubic feet behind the first row.
Technology
The Sorento Hybrid’s tech suite includes a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 4-inch digital information center. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster comes in the step-up model. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as are navigation, a wireless phone charger, and satellite radio. The standard audio system has six speakers, and the top model includes a 12-speaker Bose system. A digital key is available.
