The words “super duty” are perfect descriptors for the Ford F-450 heavy-duty pickup truck. It’s true that the Ford F-250 and F-350 are designed to appeal to a wide variety of buyers—those who occasionally tow heavy construction loads, own acres of land, or who own the largest of recreational trailers or boats—but the biggest and baddest of them all, the F-450, is designed for buyers who do some or all of those things every day.

What’s New for the 2026 Ford F-450 Super Duty
The latest and greatest version of Ford’s behemoth Super Duty lineup debuted for the 2023 model year, and there isn’t much new to report for 2026—but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. There isn’t another heavy-duty pickup truck in America available from a normal car dealership that can tow more or haul heavier loads than the 2026 Ford F-450.
Design
Like other Super Duty trucks, one look at the Ford F-450’s exterior is all that's needed to understand what this massive pickup truck is designed for. Its big, upright grille, most often outlined in chrome and bracketed by vertically stacked headlights, sits high enough off the ground that owners will look down at nearly everything else on the road. Unlike the F-250 and the F-350 that offer a smaller SuperCab option, the Ford F-450 is sold with just two cab options. Buyers can choose from a Regular Cab with two doors or a larger Crew Cab with four conventional doors. All F-450s are fitted with an 8-foot bed (the longest Ford offers) and with dual rear wheels.
Powertrain
Ford offers two versions of its 6.7-liter turbocharged diesel V8 engine in the F-450. The base powerplant produces 475 horsepower and 1,050 pound-feet of torque. The optional High-Output version delivers 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose from the standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) or optional four-wheel drive (4WD). No matter which engine is selected, the 2026 F-450 Super Duty is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Ford F-450 uses a heavy-duty front mono-beam axle that’s wider than other Super Duty models. It also has larger brakes and different forged wheels than other heavy-duty F-Series trucks. Properly equipped, the 2026 Ford F-450 can tow as much as 40,000 pounds or haul more than 6,300 pounds of payload. There isn’t a traditional pickup truck in America that’s more capable than the Ford F-450.

Interior
The 2026 Ford F-450 can be configured as a work truck with a front bench seat upholstered in hard-wearing vinyl in XL trim, as an everyday truck with cloth seats in XLT trim, as an upmarket pickup with two-tone ActivX faux leather in Lariat trim, as a Southwestern-themed model with Kingsville Antique Affect leather in King Ranch trim, or as a super luxurious showpiece clad in soft Smoked Truffle Premium Leather in Platinum trim. Regular Cab F-450 models have plenty of space for two adult passengers up front, or even three when its available bench seat is put to use. Crew Cab trucks have a large rear seat.
Technology
Base Ford F-450 XL and XLT trucks come with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Lariat upgrades the infotainment touchscreen to 12 inches and adds built-in navigation. The base four- (two-door) or six-speaker (four-door) audio system is upgraded to an eight-speaker system with a subwoofer in the Lariat, while the King Ranch gains a 14-speaker system. As a truck designed for the towing crowd, Ford also offers useful technologies to make hauling easier. Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, and Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch tech make it simpler to hook-up a trailer and navigate tight spaces.
